Hey Lorri! Tell Pete congrats on the 25 pounds! :woohoo: :woohoo: :goodvibes

Oh yeah, and our school board just randomly decided to end the school year 2 days early! What???? Ummm, day camp doesn't start until after the original end date of school. I am livid & needed to spend some time expressing my thoughts to the school board. School was supposed to end June 17, they apparently voted on May 22 to end school on June 13. What??? Oh and this info didn't make it to the district web site until This Tuesday.

Welcome to the east coast concept of "unused snow days"

I guess they put in buffer days so they don't have to add if we have snow days. My thought was - if that's the case, then they could have decided to shorten the year in mid-March when we aren't likely to have any more snow days, right? I guess not. They are closing early to save money. What they are really doing is passing those costs on to parents and the county. Our county-run after school program, held at the school, is going to be open those days. It took them 3 days to decide that.

Last year we planned our vacation in mid-march based on the unused "snow" days. Then in April they closed due to flooding, so the kids ended up missing the last day of school....

About as you can expect. :)

Now I have a different ring tone set for him: "So let's leave it alone. Cause we can't see eye to eye. There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy. There's only you and me and we just disagree."

Hmmm....now I don't feel so bad about having, "Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead" set for the ringtone when my mother calls...

I'm incredibly safe there. His attitude toward technology is Stone Age at best. He has been quoted, quite proud of himself, as saying about computers: "I don't even know how to turn one on."

Whenever anyone emails him, his secretary is the one to get the email. She prints it out and puts it on his desk. He dictates any necessary response and she returns the email.

So it is without fear or trepidation that I post on the DIS. I'll only be unsafe if you email his secretary and I'm not going to give you either of their email addresses. :rotfl:

So basically we just need to hope the secretary doesn't decide to Dis . . . you sound pretty safe otherwise. :goodvibes

Hi Gang!!

I have been MIA - while being Really busy is better than being bored - I am so far behind here!!

*NOTE* - am getting the last of the price quotes from the bus companies. Changes due to price hikes w/diesel/gas prices!! Will have all quotes by tomorrow - and will post thereafter. So far $10 pp is the average.

( Deposit due upon reservation - Full payment to be paid 2 wks prior to departure - I am willing to pay in advance - how does everyone feel about paying me via paypal)

Belated Happy B'day to all I missed!!:cake: :cake:

   to all our hurting pirates!

Any idea on what time that busses would be leaving for the port?

As Chris and Wendy have noted, we want to be at the port early. Once we get the first few cruises underway we will know what time they will let us there. It's about 40 minutes to the port from DL, and we will allow for the one stop for liquor/water/soda. The time we leave for the port will be dictated that those constraints, but Chris was letting people know the cost. It's also important for people to respond about paypal, because we do plan to require payment in advance. Once we have more details, Wendy (smeecanada) will PM everyone who has contacted her and expressed interest, and also post official notices.

g'mornin' pirate:s

:He doesn't need a tux...there's time to change this into a "Lady and the Tramp" night :thumbsup2 Girls all looking pretty and the guys come as they are (shower optional) :cool1: We did this in college, but didn't tell our dates...just showed up at their doors to pick them up "as is". pirate:

And how did that go for ya Joel?

:However, expecting pretty wide criticism of the "Lady and the Tramp" idea, I have borrowed a tux to wear. :wizard:

Oh, I see.

I saw that too.
But I think the recipe probably serves 2 or 3 :confused3
Not sure how many pirates it serves though:rolleyes1

1/2 a pirate? 1/3 a pirate?
I'm not a huge fruity drink person, but I can drink a lot of Konk Koolers!

"Tubular Bells?" EXCELLENT!

Actually, you do not have to believe this if you do not want, but I'm tellin' the truth -- on my old phone, that was the distinctive ring tone that I had set for the bishop! ::yes::

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Cheryl, we're renting tuxes for the guys. What about a nice sport coat and dress slacks that could double for Palo? Or he could just wear his tux again - I'm sure that there will be others doing this.

I think DH is bringing dress slacks and a sports coat for semi/Palo & he can also wear the slacks with more casual shirts on regular nights.

I'm chaperoning DS's fieldtrip tomorrow and need to be at his school at 4:30 am:eek:
So I'm off to get a few hours sleep.
Let me know if I miss anything important:goodvibes

So somewhere in Indiana a secretary could be reading:

"And then sk8ingmom said..."

Ahh, the buffer days...we have 5 worked into the schedule. It is understood that if they are not used they are knocked off the end of the year. No special meetings, just the way it is

Maybe it is 'understood' around here as well, but I would think someone would mention it sometime. Lots of new families every year. Besides the incovenience, the thing that irks me is the lack of notice. We really are one of the only two parent working families in the school that can pay for an additional 2 days of day care without too much trauma. There is a huge economic disparity in my kids school. Most of the families that live on our side of the major road are very well off. Just about every mom is a SAHM. The other half of the kids come from apartment complexes across the road. I bet 2 days off an hourly wage job or 2 extra unanticipated days of day care is a huge deal for many of those families.

My downfall...BACON. I have too much bacon when I'm cruising. I have it on a croissant. That would be fat on top of fat :scared1: :scared1:
I LOVE bacon! Bacon & sour cream make everything taste better!!! ::yes::

So you'll be joining my DS8, Deanna's husband and Mike in the Topsiders Bacon Scrum??

Sk8, sk8, sk8 (me shaking head) you haven't lived here very long.....

They are many other reasons the schools close around here.... When DD was in 5th grade...we had 2 or 3 days off the first two weeks of schools because bad hurricanish storms (ok one was a hurricane) had knocked out the power to our neighborhood for days....

Then that same year was that freakish Presidents day snow storm (there went another 5 days off) Before we knew it they had to add days to the school year....

SO that kinda explains why they don't just change end of year until the very end of May.

Can I go home now??

Paypal sounds great. I wouldn't expect anyone to fork out that much money for us.

Cheryl,

The Rainforest is part of the spa on the ship. Check out castawayclub . com (link wouldn't work)
Click on Spa and photos of the rainforest. there are 3 steam rooms..and these awesome heated loungers..you can just lie there...very relaxing..anyways..you can use the rainforest for $15 (I think) if you have a treatment or 120.00 for the entire cruise.

I'm pretty sure the day rate is $8 on a spa treatment day and $15 if you just walk in.

ok I need help again.. What kind of quotes do I need around /before/after my signatures to make them all show up? I had them... but now they are half gone and lost most of the info.. they are on the signature edit list.. but not on the boards.. HELLLPPPP!!!

There is a height limit on what you can post, if its too tall, it won't show on the boards.

See..there is my problem..I have only been to CC once out of 2 cruises and even that one had issues. The first attempt..Hurricane and no CC! (our cruise changed ports and everything - some honeymoon!) and the 2nd attempt..pouring pouring pouring rain! We did snorkel a little but in the end..everyone went back on board...no BBQ or anything open that day!

And people pick on me for my weather luck......:lmao:

How many of you ladies have talked your Better Halfs into wearing a "Monkey Suit"?
Kevin says he will if he won't stick out like a sore thumb.

Kevin need not worry, DH (Paul) will be in one both formal nights. In a tropical shirt for either/both the Tropical &/or Mexican nights

Celestine

Hi All,
Has anyone been changing there minds about the excursions you booked?:rolleyes1

I am going to be changing everything.........mostly because of research and it does help knowing all the tips coming in from the west bound group.

Hi Ginny, how are oyu guys doing? how is Courtney feeling about the age change for the STACK? Daniel doesnt know any kids yet his age on the cruise..:(

Surprisingly Courtney was ok with the age change. She knows she will be back on the ship next august and will be 14 then so whats another year to wait to go to the stack. Im sure she will have a blast with the 11-13 year olds.

QUESTION????

What are the men wearing for semi-formal night????? :confused3 :confused3 On our 10 Wonder Cruise.......everyone was dressed just like formal night!!!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Dh will be in shirt tie & sport jacket (a brown tweedy type thing), oh! & trousers (just in case anyway wonders!). If I can get my Palo brunch it will be worn for this too

Celestine.

Congrats on the milestones! There are a lot of us hitting the big 4 0 this year (I do on Monday:scared1:), my DH also hit his 5 years ago and we're celebrating our 16th anniversary in Oct.

16 year anniversaries seem to be popular with this group. My DH and I will celebrate ours on August 1st.

Happy Birthday and Anniversary to all we have missed

o.k on the " Ketchup " part. I have read a little here & there. Just didn't have time to post sorry.

Forgive me if I leave anything out or forget the names.

I read all the HOA stories and somebody said I hope you have thick skin. Well I don't but am well aware of what I am getting myself into only because I saw what happened at our last meeting. I will be in the hot seat all the time and my phone will be ringing non-stop. I am willing to go through that for change and yes I believe change can be made. Our community is brand new and it will be easier to make change now verses 10 years down the road.

Dressing up.......I think it's a personal choice and what's great about DCL is that you will always see a wide variety and you will always fit in. DH ( Chuck ) will wear a tux for formal & suits for semi-formal. I don't even have my dresses yet and I really am getting frustrated on trying to try any kind of shoe on.

I still can only wear my worn out flip flops. Not even sneakers. At least no real pain I am feeling but the toe is just to swelled up.

My DH will wear a sport jacket and slacks for semi formal night and Palo dinner night .

.

Hi,
We most likely will start boarding between 8:30 - 9 am and make one stop on the way. I would guess that the buses would be to the port before 11 am.
Guesstimate on my part!!

Thanks Chris :goodvibes

Aren't you glad that JR, Cheryl and I don't live in your HOA?:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

When were you married? DH and I will also celebrate our 16th anniversary in June...June 20. And, I will also turn 40 this year. (DH, on the other hand, hit that milestone 5 years ago!)

Kim

Our 16th anniversary is June 20th also!!!!! :goodvibes

How funny, we were married the same day! :)
