I don't think this subject has ever been brought up here, but how many of you are into genealogy? I have been working on mine for about the last 8 years. The advent of online census and the Ellis Island going online a couple of years ago has really helped. I would really love to travel around some year picking up clues on my lost branches.

My dad's side of the family is really easy --- Everyone in the US with my maiden name is a relative. I am not kidding.
And we have tons of information from the family still in Germany.

My mom's side.... not so easy! LOL! All the names in her family are really common names, too.....

I just had to post a great,big Thank You to my Secret Mickey. When I came home from work today,I saw a note on the top of my mailbox. Thought ok,Kev must have a package that needs to be picked up at the post office.
Well,I pulled it off and it read "David's Florist" to "Debi Huffman" left at xxxx NE 47th St. (my neighbor). As I go and change clothes,I'm trying to think "Who sent me flowers and why?"
I went over and rang the doorbell and asked if there had been a delivery for me. "Yes,some very beautiful flowers!" I told her I had no idea who they were from or what the occassion could possibly be and that it better not be Kevin spending our vacation money!
What a beautiful surprise I got when I opened the card...."Happy 100 days until the TOAL! I can't wait to meet you! Love, Secret Mickey" I wanted to cry.
I only wish that I could take a picture and post it for you all(my puter is crashed,I'm on Kev's). I will have to describe it...White Roses,Light and Dark Pink Carnations,White Daisies, and Green Cone Flowers . I promise to take a pic and post it when I get my carp together.

I'll head up the PJ breakfast if you want me to. I think the best thing to do at this point would be to wait until when (if?) DCL gives us the schedule for theme nights, and then maybe start a new poll to pick a day. That way, we'll also be beyond the 90 booking window and people will know their Palo brunch and possibly spa ressie days. I know we won't be able to make everyone happy, but we'll put it up to majority rules.

I was hoping to make my ressie around it No problem!

We go to 8:30am every Sunday. We are so used to waking up early all week long, we just don't know how to sleep in!

We have to leave 45 mins before Mass starts to get there..... The earliest dh gets up during the week is 7:30 and that is only if he has a 9am meeting, in the mornings it takes about 45mins to get to his office.

On weekends he doesn't get up before 11 ! LOL! If it wasn't for me he probably wouldn't get up before 1 or 2pm!

17dd & I are always up early!

This exactly why we go to 5:00 pm Mass Saturday evening - I don't get up early on the weekends unless I absolutely positively have to and DH also works most weekends so it is really the only time we can go together as a family.

I was suggesting that to dh recently! We sometimes go to a different Church that has 6pm Sunday Mass.

Of course, I still think Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme of them all.

Being in the financial services industry, I get to hear the stories too. I know a couple at my church that loss around $50K on some scheme involving investing in phone cards. Unfortunately, like most victims, they were too embarrassed about it to really pursue it with authorities. They actually sympathized for the guy that took their money and were trusting him to try and recover some of their money. There are at least two large mortgage fraud cases locally. One had the mortgage company working with clients to refinance...when the check came from the new lender, the mortgage company owner cashed it and never paid off the client's original mortgage.

Yuck... it never ends does it? The only thing we can do is to somehow remain vigilant for these cheats.

What makes some people so morally bankrupt???

I think it's been an ETERNAL problem to have a few folks be BAD. From bullies on a playground to today - and thinking of that movie with ON Million BC with Racqual Welch.. even though it was just an entertaining movie - I'll bet it's been dog eat dog in a similar manner as portrayed in that flick. However, I'd have some doubts about the giant turtle and teradactyl carrying off adults.

Originally my intent in posting this was to share the knowledge to REMIND folks that you have to be careful who you deal with. If it is too good to be true - then you need to be extremely cautious. I feel that we all will have enough time to invest conservatively and do well. Consider, if you make $75,000 a year.... in 20 years you'll have 1.5 million filter through your bank. Save a fair portion of that and invest conservatively ... and you'll do OK. SO why get so greedy?

I know... greed is a terrible temptation. I compensate by making a game of being the biggest cheapskate possible while occassionally splurging on things. The MP3 player in my pocket *** me about $28 ... $16 for the unit and $12 for the memory card sold to me 2nd hand from a really nice DIS neighbor from Sacramento. Compare that to my friend who last week bought an Apple ipod thing wih 4gb and paid some $150 or so. < chuckles > Gee wiz.... I paid 1/6th and even bought a leather case with poly screen shield on clearance at Best buy for $6 (discounted from $32.50!). Yeah... the Nano has a gorgous screen... but I'm not trying to watch much visually on it - I just wanna have a bunch of music and books in my pocket!

Oh well.... forgive me for ramblin'.

Well it seems, that some DISers now think I'm posting under two names and that I'm the person who made the nasty remarks.

I just wanted to let you all know that I did not make nor do I agree with those comments. In the 7 years that I've been on the DIS I've only had one name.

I started a thread on the community board to try to clear things up. I also PMed the person that was insulted.

At this point I don’t know what else I can do.

We went to the County and got our Hep A shots....$60 each.

am I missing something about why everyone is talking about Hep A shots? LMK!

Maybe we could also add where we can have a meet and greet of all the Black T** S**** before we sail??? Maybe deck 10 up the stairs from Scoops??? This is after we eat lunch and before we do the safety drill!! Anyone got a better place???

Aw, she looks so proud- as well she should! Congrats to her!
My eldest was top seller in our area a couple of years back.. it's really an acccomplishment!
(and ps I could eat that many boxes of thin mints I bet- if I could afford it. LOL)

I learned quite a while ago that if I read the Community Board, that is all I should do.

A post, any post, on any given day, has a chance to be jumped on by some "rabble rousers" and, before you know it, you're being blamed for the Kennedy assassination or something.

We know who you are and we know how solid your posts have been. Try not to worry. You're okay in our books!

No Desiree, no shots are required for our trip. There was a discussion last year about getting a Hepatitis A vaccine just as added protection. At this point don't worry about it, they had to be started 6 months prior to leaving. Your DD should already be immunized with this.

Every year that my daughter has been in school (granted it was a private school) she has missed atleast a week of school due to a family vacation. Sometimes they hassled me but I figured her experience was worth it. Her last school knew that we booked the Panama Canal trip and they were pretty much okay with it. Plus being a private school...I am sure it was easy to do that then a public school. In the end it didn't matter - we pulled her out at the end of last school year. (There were some serious issues with her school)This year was her first year being home schooled and it was strange being encouraged to take her places and let her experience things by the school we go through for our homeschooling.

Homeschooling ROCKS!! One of the things on our very long list of why we homeschool is so we can trips like TOAL without guilt . . .LOL We like to travel in the "off season" when things are more affordable so we can go on MORE trips . . .

I'd love to hear what educational things you are doing for this trip. Our boys have been reading up on the Panama Canal this year. I'd love to hear your ideas!!
