Deanna, (buckifan)

I don't remember where your kids go to school. Did they move your start date up for the next school year? My kids are at St. Brendan and they moved our start date up by an entire week, so now they will missed 8 days of school instead of 3. This has me VERY stressed out. The school also has a strict policy that they will not give out work to any student until it has been taught in the classroom. They are going to come home to a ton of work. They are going into 4th and 7th grade.

Lori

Hey Lori - my dd went on the 2005 EB repo - that school - St John of God also had the same policy. She missed the first 2 weeks of school. I seriously had to think about it but the advantages outweighed the bad stuff. History - once in a lifetime, etc. Well, after getting ok for missing that much time - which actually only amounted to 8 full days - cause you know they started in August - hot days = 1/2 days where no work gets done anyway, then fiesta time so they had the Pastor's day off, etc - they only missed the those 8 days. Of which dd's friends say they ended up reviewing - what I'm trying to say is, the kid to this day remembers vividly the canal crossing and the historic facts so things worked out ok - she did come back to some work but she made up for it within the week. Plus - we had a "few" momentos - mostly photos to give the teachers. After that - they felt too guilty to be superhard on her and she ended up getting all A's and B's on progress reports - didn't affect her at all the missing days. Let's hope your kids adjust just as well.

I sent info to DCL regarding Mass, and I asked if it could be listed in the Navigator and if they could donate the use of a microphone free of charge (otherwise, we would not use one)....here is the reply I just received:

No, we cannot put this in the Navigator.
We have to treat this as a private function so it will not be advertised.
I will advise the ship of the table, podium and chair set up. I will see if they can offer a microphone.
Thank you for the information.

Dorothy

So, unfortunately, only those that read the DIS will be aware of the Masses.

Thank you - My Mother will be so happy to hear that I will be going to Mass on the cruise. :rotfl2:

Every year that my daughter has been in school (granted it was a private school) she has missed atleast a week of school due to a family vacation. Sometimes they hassled me but I figured her experience was worth it. Her last school knew that we booked the Panama Canal trip and they were pretty much okay with it. Plus being a private school...I am sure it was easy to do that then a public school. In the end it didn't matter - we pulled her out at the end of last school year. (There were some serious issues with her school)This year was her first year being home schooled and it was strange being encouraged to take her places and let her experience things by the school we go through for our homeschooling.

I was able to book 105 days out so I am looking at the actual booking screens as tho I was going to book an excursion. I have called DCL in regards to one excursion to check and they informed me that if they are sold out it says "no reservations available" which is what I listed above. they said if it is not showing on the booking screen..it is not available as an excursion any longer.

As for sold out..I am not sure how many guests were alloted for each excursion. So I can't answer that. I was able to book at 105 day so everything was showing availabl when I went in but as I go back..some things are showing sold out. Only the suites are allowed to book and the Vow Renewals (which is what category I fit in) so I am not sure how many people that actually is.

Maybe you can try and book it still outside of DCL?

OMG this is crazy.
so things are already booked up just for the 105 days out people? see why I wanted REAS and was so upset that they weren't doing it on this cruise? this is CRAZY.
no seriously.... this is going to be the biggest disappointment ever if we have now booked TWO expensive Disney cruises and still can't get a dang dolphin swim. I mean for crying out loud....... everything already booked up before it even gets to the castaway club members? This really bites... bigtime.

And they should NOT have excursions listed out on their website- that are no longer available as an excursion once it becomes time to book them. They should remove those... people have to go by that to make their plans and then try to book like crazy when their time slot becomes open (ie 105 days, 90 days, etc.) -since they are listing excursions no longer even available that really messes up people's plans. I don't understand why they'd do that and I'm REALLY baffled how things can already be sold out before we even get to the 90 days! :( :(

We cannot book outside of DCL- we're using onboard credits for our excursions.
Gawsh this stinks

This looks cool....I could see little "OU" clouds floating over OSU's Horseshoe stadium during the OU/OSU football game;)

Company floats ads in 'clouds' shaped like corporate logosBy JAY REEVES – 1 day ago

LEXINGTON, Ala. (AP) — Picture the Manhattan skyline filled with Nike swooshes. Or the golden arches of McDonald's gently drifting over Los Angeles.

A special-effects entrepreneur from Alabama has come up with a way to fill the sky with foamy clouds as big as 4 feet across and shaped like corporate logos — Flogos, as he calls them.

Francisco Guerra, who's also a former magician, developed a machine that produces tiny bubbles filled with air and a little helium, forms the foam into shapes and pumps them into the sky.

The Walt Disney Co. will use one of the machines next month to send clouds shaped like Mickey Mouse heads into the air at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., Guerra said.

"It's a shock factor when you look up and there's a logo over your head," said Guerra, whose company, Snowmasters Inc., makes machines that churn out fake snow and foam for Hollywood movies and special events.

He developed Flogos at his small factory in northern Alabama — a perfect place for research and development, he said, partly because there aren't many people around to ask questions about the foam shapes that float above the building on test days.

A Flogo machine works a little like a Play-Doh Fun Factory, the $5 toy kids use to squeeze colorful putty into stars, circles and other shapes.

A boxlike contraption produces a specially formulated white foam in a big round tub and forces it upward through a stencil. Once the foam is several inches thick, a metal cutter slices it and a faux cloud floats into the sky.

"You want some wind because you want them to travel," Guerra said. "If there's no wind they just spiral upward slowly. We've got a ghost (stencil), and on a calm day it looks like everyone is going to heaven."

Guerra's company is working on a version that will spit out 6-foot clouds.

The foam is environmentally safe because it's mostly water, air and a soapy agent that creates bubbles, Guerra says. Flogos pop just like bubbles and disappear when they hit a tree or building, sometimes leaving a powdery residue that blows away.

A single Flogo can travel as far as 30 miles and as high as 20,000 feet, Guerra says, and a machine can produce one every 15 seconds. Guerra says he could put a half-dozen machines together and fill the sky with almost any shape a company orders.

Imagine a line of drifting Flogos shaped like the Honda logo leading to a car dealership and you get the idea.

A professor who specializes in environmental issues and public policy said Flogos didn't sound like a pollution hazard if they're really just specially formulated soap and water.

"It sounds like it's harmless, but there's a lot of stuff that we thought was harmless that turned out not to be," said Jerry Emison, a professor of political science and public administration and Mississippi State University.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Atlanta, said she had not dealt with the company before but it appears Flogos would fall under FAA rules pertaining to events like balloon launches. She said a local FAA office would need to be contacted before a Flogo launch so that pilots could be notified about it.

The company has lined up international distributors in Australia, Germany, Mexico and Singapore. A machine rents for about $3,500 a day, Guerra said.

Matt Leible of New York-based Generation Outdoor, an ad agency specializing in outdoor advertising, said companies can spend $5,000 a day for a big banner with graphics towed by an airplane, and skywriting can cost $4,500.

Want to rent a blimp like Goodyear's? That's $250,000 a month, and companies typically want a six-month minimum, Leible said.

James Twitchell, a professor of English and advertising at the University of Florida, compared Flogos to airplanes pulling banners over football games, spotlights with corporate logos and an old imagined scheme to put an advertisement into orbit that would be visible at sunset.

"It's been done before. Well, kind of," Twitchell said in an e-mail interview.

One expert said the idea sounds catchy, but wonders how Flogos will fare against a backdrop of controlled airspace, environmental sensitivity and concerns over legal liability in case something goes wrong, like a pilot being distracted by a swarm of floating tomahawks above an Atlanta Braves game.

"I think people will look at them. The question is what happens after people look at them," said Leonard M. Lodish, a marketing professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lodish said Flogos would no doubt draw attention. But it's hard to say whether they will be a commercial success.

"The real question is what is the cost benefit versus other alternatives like banners or blimps," he said. "How many people will see it and what is the impact for those who see it?"

Only a few people have seen Flogos so far, including a crowd at the local ballpark one day when the company was testing. There was no way to ignore the test clouds as they floated lazily overhead, said Augie Hendershot, police chief in Lexington.

"Everybody thought it was neat," he said.

I completely understand! We wanted REAS too and were bummed when they wouldn't offer it. DH surprised me with the VR because I always wanted a Disney wedding and we couldn't afford it when we got married. I wish they offered more time slots for the really popular excursions...and I do wish they would take off excursions they are no longer offering so that people could plan accordingly. I will keep an eye out for you on the DCL board to see if it reappears. there were still some dolphin excursions available but I do not know what they entail. I will check and let you know. I am hoping that the excursions we booked will still be available on the 19th for us to book the cabin travelling with us that could not book at 105 days.

I couldn't find the post but I checked the actual excursions on the DCL site and trainer for a Day is not Listed which per DCL means it is no longer being offered.

I also checked to see what is "currently" sold out and below is what is showing on the DCL site. Remember though...sometimes people cancel and things become available again!

Chileno Power Snorkel Cabo San Lucas
Dolphin Encounter Cabo San Lucas
Dolphin Swim Cabo San Lucas

Banderas Bay Luxury Sailing Adventure Puerto Vallarta
Dolphin Encounter Puerto Vallarta
Dolphin Swim Experience Puerto Vallarta

hey Desiree

If you have some spare time, would you consider looking up the times for all the excursions? I know a few have been looked up here and there, but it we could have a list of all of them, that would help some folks in planning.

I would be happy to!

OT..has it been decided what morning is PJ breakfast? I am so confused any more! sorry!

I appreciate your help and thank you for telling us but I cannot even begin to express how big our disappointment is that everything is booked up at 105 days before we even get to the 90 days. Gosh I feel sorry for those having to book at 75 days- won't be a thing left for them! there isn't anything (we want to do) left for us either!
:( :( :(
Do you think its possible that they only open a certain amount of slots for excursions at 105 days out and will open more at 90 days out to make things fair or something? IDK, probably not but it's sure disappointing. I know those in cat 1-3 pay a lot and deserve first crack at things but to be already sold out by only concierge guests... this is really disappointing to everyone else. seriously... like dolphin swim is almost a deal breaker for us- like if I hadn't PIF yesterday I might be seriously considering just cancelling- THAT much of a deal breaker. we already went on one cruise and couldn't do that for her due to hurricane--- but that's not something anyone can control.. DCL having so few slots open on excursions that it's already sold out/booked up by only concierge guests is extremely disappointing. :(

YES PLEASE! that would be great! It's all good to look at the exursion list and try to figure out what you want to do but without knowing what excursions they will REALLY let you book (ie: trainer for a day not really an excursion available) and without knowing the times- we have no idea how to really work out a schedule or what excursions we can really do. that would be such a great help!

Some have said that more slots open and others have said that's not true. DCL wouldn't commit when I called on that. (I am joining the trouble makers list! ) Hopefully some will open because I can't imagine that those few cabins filled everything up.

Not that I want you to cancel but I would assume as long as it isn't final payment date - you could get your money back atleast my TA said I could when I asked the other day (long story - I thinks it's resolved) But I hope that you won't cancel!

I will start putting the times together and post them.

thanks!

Thanks for the list but the dolphin swim at Puerto Vallarta on your list is showing a higher price than on DCL excursions list. So not only are they showing excursions there that they don't realy make avaialable but also the prices are inaccurate? Seriously why do they even bother listing the excursions and the info- if it's all inaccurate? ugh

OH we probably won't cancel- I just meant if we hadn't already PIF we would probably think more about whether we wanted to pay for it or not. KWIM? It's paid for now but it will SERIOUSLY be a huge disappointment if we're unable to do this. We already went on one cruise and couldn't- thru no fault of DCL at all.. but this is ridiculous to have it all booked up already. but now it sounds like the puerto vallarta port isn't filled up yet?
disappointed about the trainer for a day not available- I wonder why they list that on their website but it's not really available? that stinks! LOL

But thank you SO MUCH for the information. atleast now we're informed more than we would have had we just waited till 90 days and tried to book and everything already booked up solid! LOL

I feel exactly the same way and have already sent an email to Disney expressing my displeasure at this. I would suggest you do too you can fill out the form on disneycruise.com at the bottom of the page there is a link to contact them
I shall do that... I surely shall.
They (DCL) probably don't expect us to KNOW if things are already booked up by concierge guests. I mean they don't expect us to be talking- they would expect us to wait till 90 days and try to book and when we see it's already booked up we'd ASSUME we just weren't fast enough that day- especially since SO MANY of us will be booking that day. they probably did not expect us to talk to those booking at 105 days out and knowing/finding out that things are already booked sold out before it even gets to 90 days for us to book.
:(

There are two swims - the regular and the signature - the signature swim is the one that is a little more

pink eye always works
:rotfl2:

I used to poke myself in my eye in high school and pretend it was pink eye.. I would go down to the nurse and she would send me home!!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I am so excited!

Our TOAL is PAID IN FULL!!!!!!!!

Now the big question . . .what cabin do we get? Has anyone else paid and gotten their GTY changed?? My TA (Dreams Unlimited) said she would try to get me a room when she did the final payment, but I guess there still weren't any!

Would love to hear if anyone else has seen a change

Can't believe we're only a 90+days out!!

Yeah!!

See ya'll soon!

  Congtrats!!!

The date for the mini-meet is Saturday, July 12th. This is the weekend of our "Railroad Days" festival and there will be fireworks that evening. Being close after the 4th, we get a really good display - the fireworks company rewires the "duds" from the 4th and we get them as a discounted price which means a longer, more spectacular show for the money the festival folks spend on it.

The festival also has a carnival (surprisingly really good last year - clean, friendly, good assortment of rides!) and shows. The headliner for the 12th is Micky Dolenz of the Monkeys. There are food booths which include your typical festival stuff and some of the local restaurants.

I am trying to convince Dan (DH) that we should try and have a cookout at our house for lunch that day and then we can all head over to the park for the late afternoon/evening. Right now, he is doing a lot of construction and yard work so it isn't really a good time to get him to agree to company! I'll work on him once a couple of the projects get done!
Pamela

We had such a great time at your Feast last year!!!! Looks like Dinseywatchman,Poohmomof5,gefric,maybe winotracy, and the most important ME!!!!;) ;) Just tell Dan to give all the men a hammer!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Discount dud fireworks....Sounds Dangerous:thumbsup2 ...where's this meet again?

Actually Joel...the fireworks were some of the best I have ever seen!!!:cool1:

The festival is in West Chicago (a small suburb that is 30 miles due West of the big city of Chicago) but we don't really have any hotels here - however, most of the surrounding towns do. Probably the best bet would be St. Charles. There is a resort there named Pheasant Run and a Hilton Garden Inn. If you wanted to head a little north, there are a ton of hotels in Schaumberg (where Cheryl lives).

Pamela

Yes I live in a huge town with probably 30 hotels. We Have the shopping Center Woodfield(2nd biggest in the coutry) and headquarters for Motorola. I have a 4 bedrooom house but when the kids left......I got rid of their beds.:thumbsup2 This way my DS or DD could not comeback after they left the nest!!!:rotfl:  :rotfl:

Great! I have actually stayed at Pheasant Run before for a convention. I had an older room. Interesting place and the kids would probably love it!

I am looking forward to that. :)

I am sooo happy you are coming. We will make more plans as time gets closer!!!:goodvibes

It is about 5 hours from us in S. Ohio, but too much going on this summer. I would love the fireworks and say anything about Railroad and DH is in. Plus I have a cousin who lives in St. Charles.

Maybe we should have an Ohio mini-meet. There seems to be quite a few of us around.

Terri...you should organize your own little mini meet in Ohio. I think you have more families than we have in Illinois!:woohoo:

I didn't see this posted anywhere...

I was starting to give up hope that I would hear back from DCL about this, but I did get an email today!!

Reply from DCL:

Good Morning Deanna,

We have held the Buena Vista Theater on deck 5 for the Mass services you requested.

Aug 24 at 9:00
Aug 31 at 8:00

How long do you need the venue for each day?
Also what set up will be needed in the room for the priest? Table, podium, chairs? Would you want these on the stage or at floor level in front of the theater seats? He will need to bring his own Mass supplies.

Please be advise there is a charge for the microphone of $125 and a tech fee of $50 which would need to be prepaid. Would he prefer a lapel mic or a hand held? There is no charge for the room.

May I have the name of the Priest and the room he is in if know. If you don't know the room number I can look it up by his name.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

I will PM Father Mike to get the info they need from him, and I am also going to tell them we will not require a microphone afterall. I had not realized there would be such a large fee for that. ;)

Glad you heard back from DCL. Maybe we could put it in our own newsletter before crusie too!!:flower3: :flower3:

175 :scared1: yikes...

Fr Mike can project his voice after 25 years...RIGHT?

I'd be willing to do a reading on one of the days if noone else volunteers...
(the sea day Sunday of course)

I'm good without a mic.... :rolleyes1 (just ask DH)

I'm good without a mic...I won't even go there!!!;)

Thanks to Deanna for getting this done for us!

I agreed with her that we tell Disney to forget the microphone and tech (125?!)

After all, God gave us good lungs, let's use 'em! :)

Looking forward to meeting you on board the EB.

:thumbsup2 :flower3:

Ok, so the other 8 people on the ship won't know? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Do you really think there is that many?????:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Once on board, why not ask again? I've always heard that they print the Navigator's onboard, so maybe it could be added there. Another idea would be to ask the cruise director to announce it over the speaker system with their other events. Oh year, a 3rd idea - why not tell guest services so that if anyone asks about sevices they can be told about it?

Pamela

Some other great ideas!!

No Desiree, no shots are required for our trip. There was a discussion last year about getting a Hepatitis A vaccine just as added protection. At this point don't worry about it, they had to be started 6 months prior to leaving. Your DD should already be immunized with this.

Thanks for reminding me Roger.....we need our next shot next month!!!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 The first one hurt!!!:headache:
