Here's a pic of our "stray" and one of the 4 litters she had before we got her fixed.

Oh oh... I'm not a cat person. But i do have a good cat story that may redeem myself.

We had a young, skinny little cat hanging out between our yard and my neighbor's yard. Of course, when it turns out that DW and our neighbor were both feeding her, I can understand why she didn't move on. She became our outdoor cat, always coming over when we were outside, sleeping under our chairs or eventually curling up in our laps. (And did I mention I'm not a cat person...I'm also highly allergic to cats.)

We noticed that she was fattening up nicely. Then we realized that she was fattening up a little too nicely. Yep, she was pregnant. We set up a box in our garage with some towels in it, and left the door open. We put her in it quite a few times and hoped that she would get the hint.

One day Linda saw what she thought was a mouse out on our patio. It turned out to be a really tiny newborn kitten. It was the runt of the litter, so I don't know if the momma cat put it out there, or if she had that one on the way into the garage. We went into the garage to see her cleaning off the other 4 kittens. She kept moving them out of the box and behind a piece of plywood that was leaning against the wall, so they would be more protected. Once they started walking, we made sure they went back into the box.

Once they were old enough to jump out of the box we had a new problem. We were afraid that they would get into something they weren't supposed to in the garage, or that they would get out into the street or get caught by another animal. So they moved onto our back porch.

When it got too cold for them to be out there with no heat, they ended up in our dining room. So that's how this non-cat-loving, allergic guy ended up with 6 cats in the house. It was a great experience for the kids to see them growing up and how the mom took care of the kittens. One of the kittens thought that Zonkers, our 100 lb dog, was his father. That was pretty funny to all except the momma cat. Eventually all 5 kittens were given away to good homes. After almost a year (and being spayed), the momma cat finally found a home with one of our friend Betsy's friends. We still get photo updates on the "queen"-she is totally spoiled. And now I can breathe again with taking a ton of antihistamines and constantly using my inhaler.

That is a great story! Baby kittens are just irrisistable to me. Between the 4 of us we would have 10 animals if we were not sensible.

Ahhh! That is a "The kids are taking it out of me" face! :)

Thanks for the input. The luggage doesn't worry me too much - we'll only have one (large) check-in going out - probably two coming back (you know how it is). And no problems is what I want to hear.

My only past experience with Delta was actually pretty good.... I was chaperoning a youth group to Orlando, and we had just boarded the flight to Orlando after taking the red-eye to Atlanta, when one of the guys calls me over. Seems there was a problem.

One of our teens had zippered his sweatshirt to his eyelid.

Now, I have a lot of experience travelling with teens, but this was a new one. We called over the flight attendent who was as perplexed as I was. But they weren't going to hold up the flight, and he wasn't about to fly with a sweatshirt zippered to his eyelid, so the two of us were hussled off the plain to await the paremedics.

Then began of the more surreal experiences I've had as a youth group advisor, as a constant stream of flight attendents, Delta personell, etc. came buy to see the remarkable site while the paramedics debated how best to remove the sweatshirt. They finally decided the best approach was a firm yank - which worked, leaving behind some swelling but no harm done.

Meanwhile, the Delta folk had (without prompting) booked us on the next flight and we were on our way soon after. They treated us very nicely and sympathetically (only laughing while out of site I'm sure).

When I first read this I was thinking you meant he zipped his sweatshirt up to his eyes & the airlines wouldn't let him on because he was a security risk, but then I realized you meant he actually zippered his eye! I'm a little slow, but that is really gross! :scared:

Since we have been talking about the Tall Ship Festival in San Pedro, I stumbled on this and though it is late maybe someone might be interested.

OCEAN VOYAGES INSTITUTE
Come Sail with Us

Summer 2008

If you have dreamed of making a passage on a one-of-a kind brigantine rigged ship, the beautiful tall ship S/V KAISEI is everything you have imagined!

KAISEI will be voyaging throughout the summer season all along the coast of British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest, the California Coast and Mexico.

We have a limited number of spaces available for participants for each leg of our voyage. We invite you to join us for these incredible opportunities.

The following is a list of our scheduled voyages. Some of these voyages include participation in Tall Ship Parades and visiting Tall Ship Festivals onboard. Others include great opportunities for sail training and time at sea. The variety of voyages offers a range of different experiences.

August 9-15 Passage from Channel Islands, California to Los Angeles, CA

Join the S/V KAISEI for the last day of the Channel Islands Tall Ship Festival, and then sail out to Catalina Island. Catalina is a wonderful anchorage and a fun place to explore. This passage is going from one excellent tall Ships Festival to another, with hopefully some warm water sailing in between.

From Catalina, we will sail onward to San Pedro in Los Angeles for our participation in the Los Angeles Tall Ships festival. Participants on this leg will be there for the beginning of these festivities and disembark mid-morning August 15.

Throughout the voyage, participants will have the opportunity to be moderately to actively involved in the sailing of this 151’ Brigantine. Each person can be involved according to their ability.

$1295.00 per person

:wave2: everyone - seems as if I can't keep up with anything these days.

I am way back on page 98 so I may be coming up with some groundhogs later.

OH YEAH!

We can now do the PIF dance! I dropped off a check on Tuesday so it should be showing up soon. It may be premature but I am doing the dance now.

 :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: :dance3: :yay:

Spent a couple of days at Disneyland Paris and, although it might be heresy on these boards, the adults in the party wished we'd cut out one of those days; there just wasn't enough 'unique' about it to make it worth the time vs. the other things we wanted to see in Paris, but it was primarily for SWMBOJr to placate her when we'd be spending the rest of the time wandering through ancient buildings and museums. (Don't get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with DLRP, just would have preferred to see more of France instead of being at Disney, but that's the tradeoff of traveling with kindergarteners).

BA claims to have found two of our three bags but no idea when they will return them. Unfortunately, all of our winter jackets were packed in there so we hope it doesn't turn too cold in Chicago before we get them back. We left in snow in Chicago and returned in snow in London, but otherwise the weather wasn't too bad, which was lucky since we had no winter clothes.

I can totally agree with this thinking. I am truly grateful that I got the chance to visit DLRP but I wish that my whole time in Paris was not spent at the resort. I enjoyed the parks, but you're right, there's not enough that is unique to make DLRP the primary destination.

The general consensus here - DLParis is a waste of time. We are in the process of plannig a girls only trip next year - hopefully the exchante rate will improve but we all agree - ::yes:: more time in Paris - maybe this time we will get to go shopping in a real Paris boutique.

Last time I was there was age 7....43 yrs. ago. Kevin has never been either.

They should give you returning kids a prize . . . LOL. Guess the prices have risen a bit .. .LOL

Hey Debi - I about pitched a fit last weekend when on our way out I saw the price of 1 day DL park hopper ticket - $91! :scared1: I about fainted. That is the cheapest ticket listed on the board above the admission window. Luckily they were running a special - a 2-fer tickiet for $66 dollars for SoCal Residents or $99 for a 2-day park hopper pass which we later used to upgrade to a $169 Socal Pass. This way we were able to let the girls go on Friday night and Saturday, which was a black out day on the annual pass. Then upon exiting - we updated for $$70 more which allowed them to go in on Sunday.

With prices like these we may have buy WDW passes since their prices are sure to be more expensive! I just want to :faint:

Just saw this on the main board for the WB folks

Called DCL and here are the movies playing onboard for the repo:

ratatouille
pirates 3
national treasure 2
narnia: Prince Caspian (premiere)
game plan
underdog
wild dogs

Surely this is supposed to be "Wild Hogs" and not "Wild Dogs". :rotfl2:

Geez! Might have to rethink our options. Sightseeing is looking better at those prices. Maybe we should send you the money and you can pick them up for us!!

DH surprised me - I've been riding him really hard about getting airline tickets for our trip which we are SUPPOSED to be leaving for in less than 30 days....AHEM......so then 2 days later - he drops a woozer of a check on me and tells me to pay it off - so I RAN to the TA. Hence the  :dance3: :dance3:

I would love to buy you a ticket but the special only runs until the end of April. Sorry! :sad1: You'd think that DL would offer a slight discount for people staying onsite or going on a DCL cruise. Darn! :sad2:

I found this website in my Internet wonderings this morning and thought some of you could use it -- http://www.daytrippingmom.com/ It is for Southern California.

Thanks. We plan to take our 3 DS's to legoland before the cruise. We are also heading down to San Diego to see the USS Midway. Plus two days at DL...this is going to be one loooong vacation!! It's the most time I've had off at one time since I graduated college!!

TGIF!!

I finally got my schedule for my clinical rotations that start next month. It all looks pretty good, and the most important thing is that I got off for the block I needed for the TOAL!!!

I also got the block before that off, so I have most of the summer off with the kids, and we don't have to worry too much about childcare. My farthest rotation is about 40 minutes away, but it's only for 5 weeks, so it's doable.

And I only have 16 more days of classes left. Ever. (Well OK, not really for ever, but you get the idea)

WOO HOO !!

Paula, when you transfer your "dummy" ressie, it has to be done by phone (either by you or your travel agent if you have one). From what I've heard some of the best fares for the repo went to those that booked online:confused3
Not complaining, because of my travel agent I didn't have to wait on line or anything. In fact, I feel fortunate to get on the ship at all with the way booking day went:goodvibes

We were very lucky, our TA put us first on her list and got us first tier pricing. We were going to be happy with a Mexican Riveria cruise as our fall back anyway. Our TA has been very good to deal with.

I think that definitely crosses DL off our list of things to do on the Saturday - we were considering it but I don't think so now.

Maybe we should have a GTG for those not going into DL on the Saturday? Maybe an ice cream social type event at DTD?

Thinking forward to the 19th and of course Andrew's observation that the Wonder is also open for an August 17 cruise that night....

I tried seeing what the availability was on the Wonder cruise. If I try with 2A and 2K, its not available (even changing ages around). 2A alone or 2A and 1K show availability.....

So they aren't fully booked, but I'm imagining they are getting fairly close as the 4 passengers is throwing their system for a loop :confused3

Hopefully they are all first time cruisers and none will be on-line on the 19th

I'm far back. Did you already post this: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1347215

Lookin' bad for everyone.

I checked out the Disneyland website and it says for a 1 Day,Single Park,Adult $66.00. That might have to do. :confused3
