TGIF!!

I finally got my schedule for my clinical rotations that start next month. It all looks pretty good, and the most important thing is that I got off for the block I needed for the TOAL!!!

I also got the block before that off, so I have most of the summer off with the kids, and we don't have to worry too much about childcare. My farthest rotation is about 40 minutes away, but it's only for 5 weeks, so it's doable.

And I only have 16 more days of classes left. Ever. (Well OK, not really for ever, but you get the idea)

I confess (and am almost embarassed to do so) that this time I'm letting DCL handle the air arrangements. I know it's going to cost (though not as bad as you might think) but it's worth it to let somebody else stress over it. Does anyone have any experience with DCL as for air - in particular, handling any problems that occur?

We used DCL for our air in 05. The only thing that I didn't care for was they charged me an extra fee because I wanted to fly in earlier than the day of the cruise. Also, I didn't like waiting until so close to vacation time to find out about my flights. We didn't have any problems--so I can't help you there.

REMINDS me of a story...my cousin and I (both blonde) put our hair in low pig tails and used chalk to color our faces blue....we used old white curtains for a dress..and voila! we were SMURFETTES!(Our moms were not happy!)

I hear your pain! Last week we took Peanuts to the vet for routine blood work...he had to be "gassed" so they could check him and clip his nails (if the don't he swears like a sailor!) also had to get more meds to help with his kidney problem..over $200! I do love my cat!

The flu hit our house this week & so far DS has it. He missed school the last couple of days, but his fever broke & other than being really congested, he appears to be feeling better.

We ordered the Wii for his birthday & it just arrived today so he & DD are having a ball playing.

DD is upset that one of her good "friends" is having a birthday party tonight, but she wasn't invited. Breaks my heart!

I am so not ready for this. I am sure it happens a lot since Megan is never invited to any parties. Fortunately she has not figured out when our next door neighbor leaves for sleep overs and parties all the time, it is most likely girls in their class.

Plus she got her report card today & it is the first time in three years she hasn't made the principal's list. She got a B+ in advanced math & it dropped her out of the running. We are trying to let her know we are still proud of her, but yet it is hard not to let our disappointment show.

All in all if this is all we have to complain about then things are pretty good, but DD is not too happy today!

Speaking of cats. I may have to amend my signature. We have a new cat!
A few weeks ago we noticed this big kitten but not full grown cat playing in the water runoff thing across the street. No one claimed him and we got a whole lot of chorses of "I'm allergic", "I do not like cats" etc from all the neighbors. OK, so let's leave him out here to fend for himself. Fortunately with my family no stray stays that way for long.
It started with me scooping him out of the drainage ditch right before a bad hail storm. Next thing I knew Bill had food, water, bed, litter box and toys in the garage. At that point I knew it was a lost cause.
I call the Vet, make and appt and $185.00 later- we are the proud new parents of Tiger!!
He was very healthy and had been neutered.
When the girls were playing with him outside one day a lady came up and said she lived a block over, it was her cat but we could have him. How's that for responsible cat parenting?
Anyway he is an inside cat and in a very good home now.

I don't have experience with DCL air. But wanted to give you a word of warning. DCL usually uses Delta which means you will be limited to 1 checked bag. I don't think that booking through DCL will exempt you from that limitation. You may have to pay for each extra bag at the airport.

On our first cruise DCL took care of our air - the day of our cruise, it really made for a long day and we did fly delta but it was uneventful (which was a good thing). The 2nd cruise we took with DCL we chose to let DCL handle the air as well only this time we flew in the night before. I cannot complain about any of the flights that DCL gave us, they were just what we expected. I think they usually fly with Delta (we all know how I feel about Delta at this time) if they can.

Thanks for the input. The luggage doesn't worry me too much - we'll only have one (large) check-in going out - probably two coming back (you know how it is). And no problems is what I want to hear.

My only past experience with Delta was actually pretty good.... I was chaperoning a youth group to Orlando, and we had just boarded the flight to Orlando after taking the red-eye to Atlanta, when one of the guys calls me over. Seems there was a problem.

One of our teens had zippered his sweatshirt to his eyelid.

Now, I have a lot of experience travelling with teens, but this was a new one. We called over the flight attendent who was as perplexed as I was. But they weren't going to hold up the flight, and he wasn't about to fly with a sweatshirt zippered to his eyelid, so the two of us were hussled off the plain to await the paremedics.

Then began of the more surreal experiences I've had as a youth group advisor, as a constant stream of flight attendents, Delta personell, etc. came buy to see the remarkable site while the paramedics debated how best to remove the sweatshirt. They finally decided the best approach was a firm yank - which worked, leaving behind some swelling but no harm done.

Meanwhile, the Delta folk had (without prompting) booked us on the next flight and we were on our way soon after. They treated us very nicely and sympathetically (only laughing while out of site I'm sure).

Just read that AirTran is going to begin charging $10 for second checked bag starting in May. The article didn't say if they would be grandfathering in anyone who already holds tickets.

I think I've come in part way through on this... we booked a "dummy" ressie on our Sept 06 cruise and then transfered to a TA. When the repo cruise opened, she moved our ressie over to it. Can you not do this now?

Paula, when you transfer your "dummy" ressie, it has to be done by phone (either by you or your travel agent if you have one). From what I've heard some of the best fares for the repo went to those that booked online
Not complaining, because of my travel agent I didn't have to wait on line or anything. In fact, I feel fortunate to get on the ship at all with the way booking day went

to all who are going through tough times. It must be the time of year, things around here aren't the greatest either. Fortunately nothing major.

As far as children go, it never ends. It does get better. My oldest DD is 27 and has a seizure disorder that started when she went away to college. Now she is working and has a 5 year old son and it seems the stress causes her to have seizures. She had one at work this week. She is on medication, but can't get into the nuerologist until July. I figured once she was out of the house I wouldn't worry about her as much, but you are always a mother no matter how old they are.

When I was sick a few weeks ago my mom (who lives with us) was like "do you need some tea? do you want me to make you some toast?" And I still find myself checking on my DD25 who moved back home to go to Grad School. She lived on her own for 5 years, but I still knock on her door in the morning to make sure she is up to go to work or school. (when she was younger I had to go into her room at least twice each morning to make sure she was awake.)

So I guess I am saying the mothering gene never goes away. Although I have to say it is much easier now than when they were STs.

This part made me smile Terri. I'm in my 40s and my Mom still worries about me too She's so upset that she missed my birthday this year (she was in the hospital with a slipped disc at the time).
I also have a hard time getting my DD up for school in the morning But, it takes us at least 3 tries each school day... funny...we don't seem to have a problem on non-school days

Our (Brendan and I) "meeting" was per Match.com....wanted to meet new people...(just out of a 9 year relationship!) a coworker told me to try...since I was shy I did! Brendan was the first person I spoke to..last person I went on a date with and after that one date (10 hrs long!) Istopped going on Match and we have been together ever since! That was over 4 years ago! (and will now be a lifetime!)

It must have been ST day yesterday. After driving Lisa to Gymnastic Practice yesterday afternoon, she decides to have "meltdown" right before I drop her off. She starts crying and saying things like "You are never happy with what I do. Etc," I re-assured her that I was very proud of her and she went off to class. Four hours later we are getting ready to go home and she says cheerily "I had a great practice. We should fight more often" (I didn't know we had had a fight ). What can I say, 13 is so fun!

When I saw the picture of the "Discipline" with the 2 boys in the cage, it reminded me of a picture that I had of the girls when they were little.
Megan decided to paint Miranda to look like a tiger and since she did not have any clothes on (like normal when she was little), Megan just painted away. After they were finished they decided to put the "tiger" in a cage so Miranda got squeezed in the cat carrier. I have this hysterical picture of Miranda painted looking through the bars of the cat cage. It so so funny!
While I was looking for the picture I ran across a ton of pictures from WDW in early Dec. 2002. The girls were 3 and 6 and precious. We had been going for a few years before that but this time they were little girls and not babies. Just on word- precious!
This leads me to check airfare for Thanksgiving week. I had previously checked and been shut right down due to price. Well... it has dropped and we will have annual passes. We'll see if this passes or not.
A week in WDW in June, 2 week Disney cruise and a week at Thanksgiving. I can see my MiL's face now....might be worth booking just to see the horror! I think my tag fits.

Sorry I missed chat last night. Friday Night Skate the Monuments started last night. 10 miles around DC followed by beer and pizza. I had a great time, but I got home about 11 and I was tired!

Little League opening day today, in between games I have to drag the kids to the mall to buy suits for their first communion - that should be fun...

But that wasn't Skybus' fault . . . it was the fault of Gary, Indiana.

It seems that any airline that attempts to begin service at Gary airport receives the kiss of death: Pan Am, Hooters, Skybus. <sigh>

Oh oh... I'm not a cat person. But i do have a good cat story that may redeem myself.

We had a young, skinny little cat hanging out between our yard and my neighbor's yard. Of course, when it turns out that DW and our neighbor were both feeding her, I can understand why she didn't move on. She became our outdoor cat, always coming over when we were outside, sleeping under our chairs or eventually curling up in our laps. (And did I mention I'm not a cat person...I'm also highly allergic to cats.)

We noticed that she was fattening up nicely. Then we realized that she was fattening up a little too nicely. Yep, she was pregnant. We set up a box in our garage with some towels in it, and left the door open. We put her in it quite a few times and hoped that she would get the hint.

One day Linda saw what she thought was a mouse out on our patio. It turned out to be a really tiny newborn kitten. It was the runt of the litter, so I don't know if the momma cat put it out there, or if she had that one on the way into the garage. We went into the garage to see her cleaning off the other 4 kittens. She kept moving them out of the box and behind a piece of plywood that was leaning against the wall, so they would be more protected. Once they started walking, we made sure they went back into the box.

Once they were old enough to jump out of the box we had a new problem. We were afraid that they would get into something they weren't supposed to in the garage, or that they would get out into the street or get caught by another animal. So they moved onto our back porch.

When it got too cold for them to be out there with no heat, they ended up in our dining room. So that's how this non-cat-loving, allergic guy ended up with 6 cats in the house. It was a great experience for the kids to see them growing up and how the mom took care of the kittens. One of the kittens thought that Zonkers, our 100 lb dog, was his father. That was pretty funny to all except the momma cat. Eventually all 5 kittens were given away to good homes. After almost a year (and being spayed), the momma cat finally found a home with one of our friend Betsy's friends. We still get photo updates on the "queen"-she is totally spoiled. And now I can breathe again with taking a ton of antihistamines and constantly using my inhaler.

I'm eternally grateful to Sue Ellen at Dreams for transferring our ressie. I was in class all day and Linda was working. If not for our TA, we would never have gotten onboard.
