Subject: Proposed Mastectomy Law Change (written by a surgeon)

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies. So there I sat with my patient giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank you' they muttered. A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery. Mastectomy Bill in Congress it takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .. please take the time and do it really quick! Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill - Important legislation for all women. Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number. http://www.mylifetime.com/community/my-lifetime-commitment/breast-cancer/petition/breast-cancer-petition

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends.

Unfortunately I usually wake up way before the rest of the family. I don't want to disturb them with room service so I usually trudge off to get my caffeine fix and retrieve some goodies for the rest of the family when they awake. I usually find a quite spot on Deck 10 to consume my caffeine so that I don't have to interact with anyone. Ask my DW about how I am prior to coffee :scared1: .

I'm with you Roger-- I'm the early riser in the family so I sneak off so as to not disturb the rest of the crew.

That's very considerate! My girls sleep through the room service delivery and I go on the balcony to get caffeinated . . . here at home I don't know what chaos would erupt if one of them happened to get up before I had a few cups . . .

We won't have the balcony, so I'm with you Roger -- as I'm the early riser, it's easier to just sneak off to Deck 10 so as to not disturb the rest of the crew.

My DW says my caffeine addiction is all in my head and that I really don't need it. Probably true, however, I tell her the rest of the family needs me to have it. :lmao:

Hello all, did you a catch up (elsewhere so no posting) and read everything from last night.

Hope everyone is well.

Read about the Castle club at DLP, and sounded fun.

I could of swore that I read earlier someone asking about the WB and if they have gotten any upgrades with their assignments. Anywho, I took a quick look at their thread and they are still waiting on assignmnets - from what I read they expect to start receiving them next week.

Looks like we are going to have quite a group trudging up the stairs from deck 2in the early morning. Maybe we should all get placards saying "Danger! Do not attempt to engage this person in conversation until coffee has been consumed."

Oh I need a t-shirt like that to throw on in the morning.

Yeah just don't show up in the gym in the AM and interrupt my "git rid of dessert time"...nothing could be worse than gym photos...

I won't be there. I hate working out first thing in the morning. Need my coffee first.

Me too Roger. No verandah, so I leave the room. Maybe we can nod and mumble at eachother every morning before heading to our own tables.

Outpatient?? That's crazy. My grandma died IN THE HOSPITAL 24 hours after a mastectomy.

...and there is a reason why my kids were born after they passed a law that insurance companies have to pay for more than 24 hours of recovery. I hate hospitals more that just about anywhere else on earth, but come on!

:cool1: Congratulations Diane!:cool1:

We can all do the coffee conga!

LOL

But you have to print them right? And all I have- that works with our computer now that we have vista on the new computers- is the silly little cheap printers the pc came with. now if I could use my lexmark with these computers (stupid vista, stupid stupid vista and noncompatibility with my precious lexmark!) that would be a different story...

I don't know what the real ID law is about. DL's are not good enough anymore?

Sorry I can't help with the printer.

That real ID thing is suspose to have more info on the electroinc strip on the back. Here in MI we have the strip on the back, but I don't think it has much info on it. A year of to ago when gas prices shot up, some stupid people tried to use thier dr lic as a credit card at the pump. It let them buy gas, but left there name and dr lic # !

I won't leave the cabin until coffee has been delivered and I've had at least a few cups! It's one of the tremendous benefits of the cruise -- put the card out the night before, use its delivery as a wake up call, and then have breakfast once semi-caffeinated . . .

I like doing this too. This time I won't have a verandah, but may do it a couple of times. DD will sleep through almost anything.

OK, I'm ready for the cruise festivities. We went to Jimmy John's for lunch and I now have the "Official Jimmy John's Portable Party Cup." Has a space to put your info incase you party too hardy and don't remember who you are or where you live!

Monica,
Have you stayed in one of the sideways cabins before? Ours is a Cat 11 sideways too, but I have never stayed in one before. So I am wondering what is different (better) about them. I think we were just lucky. Had a AAA TA book our cruise.

Nope haven't stayed in one yet. I had one booked last year but then I got upgraded. Everyone says they seem bigger although the square footage is the same. But instead of opening the door and having this long cabin in front of you, it's spread out to the side bed on one side, lounge area on the other. I really just went for the sideways in an attempt to make my Cat 11 seem more special.

Yes around 60 days to 30 days normal, for the bulk assignments.

I can see us now up on deck 9 or 10 nodding and going to our own corner of the ship!

You don't need this, Tina -- we will help you stagger back to your cabin!!!!!!!

I say we form a Deck 2 "morning drink" schedule. I personally am a Diet Coke kinda girl. We can take each others orders and make 1 trip to get everyones beverage of choice. :lmao:

Actually you will see DH up way before the rest of us. Ever since I started working from home my very early days are over. He, on the other hand has started getting up earlier. Go figure!

I LOVE  Jimmy Johns! My DH sticks his head in my office every day at lunch to ask what I want for lunch. Jimmy Johns is always my 1st choice.

Came home to a nice surprise today....I got Mickey Mail,I got Mickey Mail!

Everyone says they seem bigger although the square footage is the same.

We had one on our first Wonder trip ('99 i think)

It was nice to have the extra space.

Does the ship have enough corners for all of us?

My thoughts on fountain soda in general is
puke.gif

It really does make me sick though... I can drink bottled or canned though and be ok.

Diet Mtn Dew would be my choice in the AM. (of course only after i get enough H2O in though.) i carry on.
