Quick question:

Was thinking of going ahead and buying our park hoppers passes now (with our tax refund). I can buy them at the Disney Store - these are the same prices as the website but we get the actual plastic card ticket instead of paper.

Others have been getting their tickets at getawaytoday.com. These tickets are picked up at the will call window, $10 more BUT have two early entry days attached to them.

Which one would you do?

We can't get DL tickets from our Disney Store - only WDW tickets. And the employees were no help when I enquired - tried to tell me that none of the Disney Stores carried them. I asked it that was just those in NY or east coast - nope, the ENTIRE COUNTRY, yeah right, and I'm the Queen of Sheba.

Last year when I wanted to get a 4 day no expiration park hopper for WDW they told me I couldn't get one like that ANYWHERE. I told them I could get it direct from Disney and they told me I was a liar. Of course, I pulled one of their official Birnbaum WDW books and showed them what I could get and still was told that I didn't know what I was talking about.

So for ME, I would get them direct from Disney just because I would feel safer that way.

Laura...

... my Doc told us the thing going around is often a 3 day viral bug. May I suggest in closing that ya pull out your most entertaining comedies and watch 'em on TV. That sort of stuff is always good foor for the soul!

From your mouth to God's ears. What makes it even worse is I got this STUPID chain letter (in Spanish none-the-less) about if I didn't forward it to 10 people......Blah, Blah, Blah - so what did I do? Stop reading after the first sentence and tossed it. Don't believe in that stuff but come on - :fish: from McDee's on a Friday? Go figure.

Blech, bad fish! Feel better soon Laura!

Feel better soon, Laura. :flower3:
I'm a big baby when I'm sick too.

Thanks Guys - feel better and will attempt a sourdough muffin. At least I took a little nap along with some good-old-fashioned sunshine - I hope that makes me feel better. The worse part about this? You think that with all the "symptons" I'd of lost weight! WRONG! I can't catch a break it seems. :sad2:

Oh well, be back on later.

Oh - and I did catch the RealTV version of Forrest Gump - they had little tidbits of things that happened in the movie. Spent much of the time dozing and reading the captions. That was fun! :sad2:

Crash - they are talking about today's big breaking news. The governor of NY was caught being naughty.

Pamela

That is what I get for not listening to the news all day!!! I had no idea what anyone was talking about!!:headache:

Holy Cow!

Spitzer (D) paid $4,300 to be with a prostitute named Kristen for a little over 3 hours! He could have had almost 4000 of those rancid McDonalds' Filet Fish sandwiches or cruised Disney for 7 days WITH his spouse in a nice cabin. I don't know WHAT the world is coming to with stuff like this going on. Especially with politicans who present themselves as Mr. Clean. I hate to say this but it's obvious...

WHAT
A
HIPPOCRATE

And this article below suggests that Spitzer has done his before - but had not been caught until now. Rotten I tell ya.

Of course ... now I'm looking for the web site for the so called Emporers' VIP club ( screen shot photos from this club site - the web site itself appears to be shut down = http://www.newsday.com/news/local/state/ny-emperorsclub,0,5634101.photogallery )- where they have "7 diamond" call girls who have gone for as much as $31,000 a day! Since their top published rate is supposedly $5,500 an hour ... the $31,000 a day paid represents a major discount over their top hourly rate!

Robert Windrem of NBC News said:
NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s political career teetered on the brink of collapse Monday after the corruption-fighting politician once known as “Mr. Clean” was accused of paying for sex with a high-priced call girl.

The scandal drew immediate calls for the Democrat to step down. At a news conference before about 100 reporters, a glassy-eyed Spitzer, his wife at his side, apologized to his family and the people of New York.

But he gave no details of what he was sorry for, did not discuss his political future and ignored shouted questions about whether he would resign.

“I have disappointed and failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself,” said the 48-year-old father of three teenage girls. “I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family.”

The New York Times was first to break the story, reporting that Spitzer was caught on a federal wiretap arranging Feb. 13 to meet at a Washington hotel room with a prostitute from a call-girl business known as the Emperors Club VIP.

Law enforcement officials told NBC News that Spitzer was identified as Client 9 in the records. Spitzer was in Washington on Feb. 13 to meet with congressional officials.

Spitzer not charged
Last week, federal prosecutors in Manhattan filed conspiracy charges against four people, accusing them of running the prostitution ring. Prosecutors said the defendants arranged connections between wealthy men and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris.

Spitzer has not been charged, and prosecutors did not comment on the case. The four defendants were charged with violating the federal Mann Act, a 1910 law that outlaws traveling across state lines for prostitution. Spitzer learned that he had been implicated when a federal official contacted his staff Friday, a person briefed on the case told The New York Times.

Spitzer called the issue “a private matter” in his comments Monday. He gave no details but said his conduct “violates my, or any, sense of right and wrong.”

Some immediately called for Spitzer to resign.

“He has to step down. No one will stand with him,” said Rep. Peter King, a Republican congressman from Long Island. “I never try to take advantage or gloat over a personal tragedy. However, this is different. This is a guy who is so self-righteous, and so unforgiving.”

James Tedisco, Republican leader of the State Assembly, said Spitzer “has disgraced his office and the entire state of New York. He should resign his office immediately.”

Democratic Assemblyman John McEneny said: “I don’t think anyone remembers anything like this. The fact that the governor has a reputation as a reformer and there is a certain assumption as attorney general that you’re Caesar’s wife. It’s a different element than if you were an accountant.”

2½-hour meeting with prostitute alleged
In an affidavit obtained by NBC News, the FBI said a prostitute named Kristen was sent to Room 871 in an unidentified hotel where Client 9 was staying.

Client 9 asked to be reminded of what Kristen looked like and was told that she was an “American, petite, very pretty brunette, five feet five inches, and 105 pounds.”

The meeting apparently lasted from 9:36 p.m. ET, when Kristen arrived, until 12:02 a.m.

Kristen collected $4,300 from Client 9, according to the FBI affidavit. She said that the appointment went “very well” and that “she liked him and did not think he was difficult.”

The agent said she had been told the client “would ask you to do things that ... you might not think were safe ... very basic things,” according to the papers, but that Kristen responded by saying, “I have a way of dealing with that ... I’d be, like, listen dude, you really want the sex?”

When discussing how the payments would be arranged, Client 9 told the agent: “Yup, same as in the past, no question about it” — suggesting Client 9 had done this before.

The Web site of the Emperors Club VIP displays photographs of scantily clad women with their faces hidden, along with hourly rates depending on whether the prostitutes were rated with one diamond, the lowest ranking, or seven diamonds, the highest. The most highly ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour, prosecutors said.

The case is being handled by prosecutors in the public corruption unit of U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia’s office. A spokeswoman for Garcia said the office had no comment.

Spitzer built his political legacy on rooting out corruption, including several headline-making battles with Wall Street while serving as state attorney general. He stormed into the governor’s office in 2006 with a historic share of the vote, vowing to continue his no-nonsense approach to fixing one of the nation's worst governments.

Time magazine had named him “Crusader of the Year” when he was attorney general, and the tabloids proclaimed him “Eliot Ness.”

His cases as attorney general included criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and tourism involving prostitutes. In 2004, he was part of an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrests of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges.

MSNBC’s Dan Abrams, a lawyer who is NBC News’ legal affairs correspondent, said that even if he were involved in the prostitution ring, Spitzer might escape prosecution because, in general, cases are rarely brought against customers of prostitutes.

But political analysts of both parties said Spitzer’s carefully constructed reputation as a moralizing crime fighter would make it difficult for him to remain in office or in politics.

His term as governor has been marred by problems, including an unpopular plan to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and a plot by his aides to smear Spitzer’s main Republican nemesis.

Spitzer had been expected to testify to the state Public Integrity Commission he had created to answer for his role in the scandal in which his aides were accused of misusing state police to compile travel records to embarrass Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno.

Bruno wouldn’t comment Monday when asked what Spitzer should do. “I feel very badly for the governor’s wife, for his children,” Bruno said. “The important thing for the people of New York state is that people in office do the right thing.”

I just keep telling myself to not compare to DCL - we are going to be very open minded and be determined to enjoy ourselves anyway.

DH and I did Alaska on NCL - once we learned to stay away from the kids - it wasn't too bad. He and I actually liked it. Except for the same restaurant - that can get boring for 7 days. But the whole ship was really nice. Just as you said - keep an open mind - while not Disney - they still have some good standards - but then again - this was more of an adult cruise. And while on the subject - the kids weren't as bad as on some Disney cruises - at least I never saw any dinging an donging! In fact, any time I saw them they were usually in a group or by the elevators - so we had a good experience. Then again, we haven't gone back to do another one.

Either way - with your open-mind - you should be fine - plus -you have ours to look forward too.

We'd use a good real estate attorney to review the contracts in this case - and I'd obtain engineer reports certifying the performance of the wells, plus probably insist on soil engineer reports as to the suitability of the pad for construction and site. I get leery in THINKING about what the sellers position is... IE, what has been the holding period of the seller ... are they of what nature ... a large corp or some individual who just inherited it and knows little of RE investing, land value, trends, and even the simple history of his/her familys' holding on that particular tract.

I've had friends buy into several hundred acres intent on subdividing and reselling. Themere act of subdivision is a huge BOON for the owner... in general.

Also, while you're not building on it - does your land offer any grazing value to any farmers? you could generate a little revenue off your otherwise non-performing land if you could lease grazing rights, eh? In the USA, there are lucerative benefits for engaging in farm activity on your land. I once read of how the property taxes are recalculated on an anchient methodology that protects a farmer against normal property tax... and so modern day businesses and savvy individuals have been exploiting this loop hole where it remains open... and assuch it was cited how a 40 million dollar hotel resort was paying an insulting fraction of thier land / structure valuation in property taxesbecausethey kept a handfu of cattle conspiciously on their property... where obviously the primary purpose of thier land was C1-2 or 3 (commercial) but it was zoned agricultural with the handful of cattle to maintain the technical qualification of the property as agricultural - in name alone.

As such... i maintain a steady curiosity in undeveloped land. One day I might do a similar thing. I've been known on occassion to buy those home plan magazines to look over the floor plans for ideas and so on.... even though I currently hold no vacant land that is suitable for a residential home for my taste.

So - how far off the nearest significant population center is this tract you're buying? Does it have any significant elevation of views as a result? If so - I've heard that building a home at the top is NOT a good idea if winds are prevailant any significant amount of the year. it has something to do with the wind velocity and dust / wind erosion you're exposed to with a home at the top. As such some i've spoken to mentioned they wouldhave been far wiser if they had sited the home just short of the top of a hill ... odd, eh? I figure this depends upon the frequency and INENSITY of the winds at your hilly site.

At any rate, I just checked my daughters' temperature and she measures perfectly normal! Also her skin temps seem normal too. WoooHooo! Maybe if this is true in the morning then her weekend illness is at an end!!!!

Time fer me ta slip away into the realm of shadowy rest ... blissful dream and wispy mystery. TTFN ...

Firstly, I'm pleased that your daughter is improving. Robert has also been fighting some nasty bug for a couple of weeks and just has the lingering hacking cough left now. I'm pleased I didn't catch it.

In terms of the land, we are buying from my brother's inlaws and its been used for grazing. They have a fairly large farm and as they are getting near to retirement age are going to cut back to their peonies (flowers) and sell off some parts previously used for grazing for a subdivision. My brother and his wife are buying the land immediately next door. Its situated about 5 minutes from a small township which is experiencing a boom with people wanting a rural lifestyle but still wanting to be commuting distance to the city where we live which is about 40 minutes easy drive.

The section itself is very flat (on the Canterbury plains) but has a clear view directly across to the southern alps.

NZ doesn't really give any tax breaks for farming that I know of - as its really one of our main sectors but the land can be leased for grazing or crops. We'd like to lease to someone else to do this but if not, we'll see what my brother and his wife choose to do with their "bit" once they've built their house and probably steal their ideas :) Ideally we don't want to be going back and forward all the time so needs to be something fairly hardy.

We are keen to grow some fruit trees, if nothing else just so when we visit, we can come back with bags of fruit for us to eat. Stone fruit, apples, pears, peaches and many other types of fruit tree will grow well out there. There is also a water race that we can use to water our "garden".

Blech, bad fish! Feel better soon Laura!

I just hope this :fish: is not one I will be seeing - considering what the WB people had to deal with when booking excursions. No More :fish: es!!!

What's worse is that I'll be on the WB when booking window opens so that means I'll be leaving my requests with my oldest dd who is one of those anal people who you have to tell EACH and EVERY SINGLE THING TOO! Yeah - my roller coaster ride is going to be fun. DH wants to know why I can't book it onboard???????????????? Have I not taught that man anything?

Please define a good strip search. The ones I have been involved with have never been fun or good. You Usually end up seeing someone sans clothes that you don’t ever want to see like that :scared1: . This was one of the perils of being a Military Police officer

WHEW! Glad you cleared that up - I was having all kinds of scenarios running through my head about how you got to see those "sans clothes" people in the first place - (cue in the line with renknt at the end sans clothes!!!!)

Around here - it doesn't take much to get us started! ;)

As you all can see - another dose of anti-biotics and I'm doing much better. I can sit at the computer so it seems as if Crash's 3-day viral is what I had. Thank God because another day of this and I'd have been

We aren't traveling with kids - just me and Mum. We have stayed at some fairly basic places in developing countries so how bad can it possibly be, right? An open sided tent in the Sumatran jungle has to have less amenities than a cruise ship. It didn't have electricity, beds or toilets. I'm hoping our cabin will at least have those :rotfl2:

I've read reports of people that have loved it and others that have hated it on exactly the same sailing. We are mainly going to see the islands and have lots of shore excursions booked, we'll be off the ship every morning and back late evening. We aren't into "relaxing" on trips so won't be spending much time in our cabin or hanging out on the ship.

And if all else fails, I'll simply sit next to the desserts and try them all...

Sounds like a "sweet" deal. In general - dealing with family in a circumstance like you're describing sounds ... good. As for the land being all flat - that's great for having a maximum of usable land for building pads - or subdividing ome day into communities. I look back on the way our growth has flowed and if we had bought the right land along certain corridors of growth - today we'd be swimming in dough.

Seriously, I read of a guy who went bankrupt in a business only to run off to Arizona where he was going to lick his wounds. After a spell ... he gotinto real estate - undeveloped land at approximately the right time. Today his firm owns huge tracts of land between Tuscon and I think it was a semi-neighboring city ... maybe Phoenix? I don't have a map and I'm not that familiar of the spread out there. At any rate - today he's worth billions.

I have a little undeveloped land - and it is commercial zoned - but it has not appreciated much in the time we've held it because we're still waiting for developement to run through it's location. I didn't buy it - our parents did and gave it to us. So - just imagine how long we've had this in the family. By that I mean it just might be a long long LONG time before we can do anything truly gainful with it.

I might have mentioned we once observed a farmer who developed a vast tract he had into several dozen estate homes to sell. They were all on 1+ acre lots - which constitutes a very expensive home in our parts. Unfortunately, he was building out and about to sell just as the Soviet Union collapsed. And this in turn collapsed our defense industry (among other major industry shifts). Which sort of triggerred a real estate collapse in Southern California. So he had several dozen homes almost ready to sell and all of a sudden several tens of thousands of good jobs went up in smoke. And the housing market reversed. He ended up running an innovative AUCTION to sell off his homes quick. You see... he failed to obtain bridge financing to float his project any further... and simply ran out of operating capital to service his debt. Or so we speculate. At any rate - DARN - that I had insufficient money at the time to snap up any of those homes. And, our parents were unwilling to go into it with thier money. Hind sight is 20-20 so they say.

(718)%20Canterbury%20Plains.JPG

So.... flat tracts of land over the Canterbury Palins viewing the Southern Alps ... is this a representative imaghe (above)? So ... do you get high winds off these plains? Would you then plant sturdy rows of trees to slow the winds a bit? After I drafted the coments related to this I recalled the conversation that pertained to it. and that was that with the position of the home at the apex of the hill - the owners felt that home was buffetted by high winds all the time - especially since every evening the valley had a sort of heat transfer gust at sunset every day! And the result was they noticed thier home had simply tons and tons of dust which was whiped up from the hillsides driven into thier home. It was maddening for them! While for other folks who had their homes sited just a bit lower on the hillsides - they had NO dust or wind issues.

Canty%20Map_lg.jpg

So - having a brother next door makes for a magical circumstance (provided you get along - LOL). And being 5 minutes from a township sounds like it enables a lot of typical conveniences (food - hardware - etc.)... and only 40 minutes to a larger city sounds like almost nothing in terms of driving distance / time. In LA it's been said the residents are KNOWN for walking the least and driving everywhere. I can relate to that as I do in fact exactly that. and as such - to get AnYWHERE we drive typically 5-15 minutes. A 40 minute drive puts me almost at LA Airport - a regular run for me when I was fully engaged in business. And it's about an hours' drive to the center of Los Angeles without major traffic jams.

At any rate, the land deal sounds like huge collossal fun! How exciting it must be to acquire something like that. The photos of the region that I've googled look sooo unbelievably beautiful - you're truly fortunate to be able to have the family friendly chance at doing this! My sincere compliments on such a wonderful undertaking!

I sure hope you have shaken it. SO many (including myself) seem to have had symptoms for WEEKS ... so much so that I would not EVER wish my recent sickness upon anyone.

So - an update on my poor little girl... I stepped out to attend a School Presentation on a proposed Junior K-school program thelocal school district was starting. and upon my return I found my spouse feeding the kids and my recovering daughter throwing up. Evidently she tossed her cookies for NO DISCERNABLE REASON... except we knew she washaving digestive issues.

Add to that - that she had a mild fever tonite (102-102.7) and we dosed her again with medication. So - if she does not awaken totally normal / and go the nite without fever .... then I'm taking her in to see the doc AFTER I call the Docs' nurse to ask what I should do. I want to go in and get a perscription for a powerful anti-biotic or similar - to simply WIPE OUT the bug that's got a grip on my daughter!
