Hi Everyone and Happy Valentines Day!

I have not had a chance to read that last 15 or so pages so I don't know if this has been posted yet.

Just got back from the Disney store here in Northern California and they are having an extra 60% off the clearance price. My store had childrens pirate costumes for $12.99 plus 60% off. What a deal!

Just earlier today it was posted that someone got their room assignment (see above) but someone else checked and hadn't . . . so anything is possible!

So of course I had to check too. Still GTY for our cat 6.

Thanks, I don't often get a chance to look back through pages if I miss checking in for a few days

Not a problem -- it's just funny that you brought it up today when no one has gotten an assignment for a long time and then it was posted that someone had . . . I knew everyone was going to check after reading that!:goodvibes

The pirate: runs have largely become non-events, a brief small spike on the radar as we rack up posts getting to know each other.

So, I have a proposal, which I have been working on with another member of the list and would like you input. It has a few more details to be worked out, but the essence of the proposal is as follows:

As a part of thepiratezone website (or a link from there), set up a set of discussion forums for trip planning details.

These forums would include:

  • One for each port
  • One for each event planned
  • Questions that pirate:s need answered
  • etc.

The idea is to allow for detailed discussion of the specific events that would be easier to keep up on than scanning through posts in what will become multiple threads here. For example, the Roger's Jolly Pirates excursion in Aruba that 50 or 60 of us are doing would have a thread, Roger could be given "administrative rights" on the thread, discussion of things like taxi cab or public bus transportation, plans for after the trip is over (e.g. hanging at the beach for sunset), etc. etc. would happen there. Another thread would deal with the group photo at Castaway Cay, now people can commit/discuss, as it gets closer, Todd can give times, etc.

None of this would be intended to interfere with or eliminate any of the discussion here, but would instead just make it easier to find specific information regarding the events you are interested in.

Thoughts? Comments? Statements that Tom is insane?

:confused3

not insane (yet) Great idea :thumbsup2

OK... so I just saw this and edited it in... I guess it would NOT be on the DIS.

I realized after reading my last post that it may have come across as rude and dismissive of Tom's idea. I didn't mean it that way. I am posting from my phone enriute to Harrisburg, PA and even though my Motorola is wonderful (shameless plug), I did not reread it.

I can set up a forum on the website when I get back from business trip and holiday in Wisconsin next Wednesday and we can experiment.

I was just warning people that if you thought the DIS was slow, wait until you see a forum powered by two hamsters and a neurotic gerbil.

I got my Valentine present last night. I was babysitting my grandson and DD was home (she usually works nights) so we decided to celebrate a day early. DH picked up a heart shaped pizza and filled my car up with gas and got it washed. So no cooking, a full clean car and my family all together, nice gift.

Terri, what a great V-Day present.:goodvibes

Same here. For some reason I don't feel worthy of winning yet, so I think I will just sit an watch the next few posts. :rotfl2:
Congrats on your 1st pirate Jennifer.:)

1. I considered setting up a forum when I set up the site but did not want to be seen as being a competitor to our gracious hosts here at the DIS.

2. There are no guarantees a forum on the piratezone will be fast. In fact it may be very slow and may not even be able to handle the traffic this group generates.

3.The site will eventually cease to exist sometime in the future unless someone is willing to pay for the domain name and hosting in future years. I agreed to host it until after the cruise but can't do it forever. So anything posted will not be around forever, unlike here on the DIS where threads last for years.

I have to admit I'm not enthusiastic at first blush. How likely am I to go check the 20 or so forums we're about to spawn. Realistically? It's really, really, unlikely. Also, I do find some value in the "free for all" we've got going here - and I get all sorts of interesting information and ideas that I might not have searched out if left to myself.

On the other hand, there have been multiple times when I wanted to find specific information about an event / port that I remembered discussing - only to never be able to find it. And I wished for a little better organization. And as we get closer, it's only going to intensify. And, let's be honest, with a crew this big - we're going to need it.

So, I guess I've just talked myself around to thinking this is a good idea, and I'll just have to deal with the overhead of looking at the 20 some-odd forums. :rotfl:

I think JR's warnings about the technical limitations of "The Zone" need to be considered. I'd recommend we start with a few of the key forums, and leave it at about five or so for 4-6 weeks to see how it goes. Then add the other ones if it goes well. ("Well" = decent response times, folks are actually posting there, etc.)

I didn't take it as either rude or dismissive. It was full of very valid points that I have been wrestling with already. I will reach out to you with more detail, thought, insanity, etc.

For JR and others, the only purpose the other forums would serve would be specific planning, etc. Not intended to take away from here and this insanity, I mean fun! :lmao: :lmao: I think this is a place to have fun, share things, but we need to gather and store the good ideas in someplace that you can find them more readily. When we have days that are 200 posts, I can't grab and put stuff on the website, having the alternate forums would just be a great place for anyone to cut/paste or post specific planning detail. My $.02.

Come on - this is too good to pass up - who's gonna be the first to post some type of picture - if I didn't need to run to the bank - I'd google something but then again - I don 't know how to post an image w/o going through photopucket.

Free LOADED Mickey Bar to the first to come up with this exact image! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

OK everybody - get out of the way of the mad scramble? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I am getting real tired of explaining to my kids why someone would kill strangers. The N. Illinios University. :sad2: :sad2:
Edited to add: No one except gunman killed. That at least is some good news.

Thanks.

The hardest part of owning a pet:confused3

What's the oldest anyone's cat has lived:confused3
Reebok's 16 years is a record for us I think, but I've heard for cats living till their 20's.

We had our Samantha til she was 17. :sad1:

Wow ... This is really close to home - about 30 miles. A friend is a professor there (wasn't there today - he's also a state rep, so he was in Springfield). After today's Valentine party at DS8's class, I took him out for a haircut and some grocery shopping and then we stopped for dinner at a very healthy place :rolleyes1 called Mr. Hot Dog which has TVs at all the tables. It was a real shock to realize just WHERE this latest shooting was located!

For those who remember that DH is out of town today on business - I did get a dozen roses. They arrived yesterday for "Valentine's Eve" :thumbsup2

One of the reasons I don't watch the news anymore.

As I haven't been on the boards in quite a while, I am feeling really lost.... What, I am really looking for is some info on shore excursions. I have been able to find most of the other info that I need but I am very interested in shore excursions. I know what DCL is offering but what has been arranged outside of DCL

I appreciate any info you can provide me with

Thanks

Denise
