The pirate: runs have largely become non-events, a brief small spike on the radar as we rack up posts getting to know each other.

So, I have a proposal, which I have been working on with another member of the list and would like you input. It has a few more details to be worked out, but the essence of the proposal is as follows:

As a part of thepiratezone website (or a link from there), set up a set of discussion forums for trip planning details.

These forums would include:

  • One for each port
  • One for each event planned
  • Questions that pirate:s need answered
  • etc.

The idea is to allow for detailed discussion of the specific events that would be easier to keep up on than scanning through posts in what will become multiple threads here. For example, the Roger's Jolly Pirates excursion in Aruba that 50 or 60 of us are doing would have a thread, Roger could be given "administrative rights" on the thread, discussion of things like taxi cab or public bus transportation, plans for after the trip is over (e.g. hanging at the beach for sunset), etc. etc. would happen there. Another thread would deal with the group photo at Castaway Cay, now people can commit/discuss, as it gets closer, Todd can give times, etc.

None of this would be intended to interfere with or eliminate any of the discussion here, but would instead just make it easier to find specific information regarding the events you are interested in.

Thoughts? Comments? Statements that Tom is insane?

:confused3

that sounds good

Wow....Beautiful house.:thumbsup2 So does this mean you are staying in my state???:confused3 I sure do hope so.

I nominate ANDREW to mediate the negotiation over "fees" which Cheryl suggests are fair for her services. Anyone care to second this proposal ... or shall I assume the echoing silence to be a vote of universal approval?

Wait a minute... WHAT AM I SAYING? Andrew is gonna wanna charge an ARM, LEG and right EAR for serving as mediator...and that'l be from BOTH of us! So let me revise my proposal to self nominate MYSELF to serve as mediator (PRO-BONO) for the fee dispute between Andrew, myself and Cheryl.

And may I declare... you can TRUST me to be impartial as I am eternally....

INNOCENT!

However, what Julie says ha tremendous merit too ....

Sounds like a good idea -- the only thing I would point out is that people are not likely to check the different planning threads that often, since there are only going to be so many places we check in on any given day. But if someone is in charge of noticing that someone has posted a question (so that a newbie doesn't post there and not get an answer for a long time) it shouldn't matter that there's not a lot of action.

As for this thread, I'm always afraid we are going to mess with the magic, but the magic seems to be fairly resilient . . .

I think it's obvious,

With the crew we have here it is no question that there is a lot of activity now - and that the whole thing is gonna get busier later as we draw nearer to embarkation. The functionality and UTILITY of the thread will be totally lost with the posting levels we can anticipate... through no fault of ANY individual... except possibly myself since I'm always clinging so vehmently to INNOCENCE regardless of the circumstances or allegation.

Oh,... now where wuz I... oh yes, we have a problem on the horizon and with ingenuity and planning - we stand a chance of reinventing the wheel - saving our cake while simultameously feasting upon it - and with that in mind I would like to say I approve of Toms' proposal - tempered with considerations for Julies' admonishments.

So - if I understand this correctly, we're gonna LINK to seperate threads for the various diversions? Frankly, that's brilliant - however I suspect the moderators and creators of the DIS did not intend for us to multiply the meeting threads into a dozen or more seperate threads for our organizational convenience. Ya think we'd get away with doing this? I mean - we're already clutterrin' up the place with a new thread every few thousand postings now - and if we toss up 100,000 more postings between now and embarkation then we're gonna have meet thread part #33 already.

Anyone wanna say we take the "popular" diversions and start a few trial runs on this concept? I already know "my" Mickey Ice Cream Eating Challenge is not going to be on the "popular" list for a seperate initial thread < snif, snif > - as it's fated to be an unpopular side show - thinly attended and relegated to a scornful last page - small font entry on our agenda. This is a risk in spite of the fact the winner of the speed eating challenge will get a winning 100 million dollar plus super-duper, mega jackpot, death defying lotto ticket opportunity in addittion to near immortality as the unofficial champ of the 3rd Unofficial Mickey Ice Cream Eating Speed Challenge at Sea.

Great idea! I did not know that the zone had that capability. Here are some topics that could be addressed regarding the West coast.
Disneyland Q/A
California Adventure Q/A
HoJos Q/A
Los Angeles Area/Activities Q/A
Los Angeles Airport/Transportation Q/A
Disneyland Resort Hotels/Dinning
San Pedro/Ports O'Call

Hey Roger - Great timing. Was just coming over here to ask you something. What time is our pirate dinner at DL? Trying to make some plans, but I forget when dinner was.

Wow miss a day & lots & lots of posts to catch up on!!! I'll try to keep the quotes to a minimum! :rolleyes1
At any rate, I was going to say nothing for a few days - but earlier today we recieved news that a good friend of ours - roughly our age - one who had surgery a year or so ago to remove a kidney (I think) due to kidney cancer... well, we noticed she had not been hanging around with us much in the past 2-3 weeks... and today we found out that tomorrow she will go in for surgery - they found a cancerous growth in the brain and this is .... bad. I'm not feeling all so hot or happy go lucky today. Not that I'm fishing for sympathy in supporting my playful assertions of innocence. Frankly, it's a thankful escape to be here sometimes cracking jokes and reading everyone elses' banter - and today has been one of those rare days when I could use - or needed a little bit of a diversion.

At any rate, it's so sad since our friend JEAN has a 2 year old boy and husband to survive her if things don't turn around. And we've been rallying with her family to add a few smiles to this year... more so then our usual neighborly friendship over the years. Know what I mean? We knew the odds were not good at all for her survival over 2 years - but it's different when it's happening. At any rate,... I don't mean to be a dampener for others - just it's a sort of sad day for our family.

I have to run now... cheers.

I know how you feel . . . a very good friend of mine just found out about 10 days ago that his cancer has returned after over a year of being in remission and is in lungs and liver . . . survival will be in terms of months rather than years at this point. He and I were talking last week and he says that it really doesn't do any good to say "I don't deserve this" because none of us really did anything to deserve living in the first place, either. Life was a gift so what days we do get are all a bonus, really.

At any rate, I don't generally talk about things like this, but I wanted to reach out since you are expressing a situation that I am definitely going through right now, and I know it is hard.

All the chatter on this thread can really lift the spirits!!!!!

Crash - sending lots of :tink: and pixiedust: out your way  . Seems that news like this is hitting hard and exceptionally close to home. I will speak more of this come Friday. I'm dealing with a bit of bad news myself although looks like there may be a little ray of hope not much but we're grappling for it - more on this later.

Crash... a very, very close friend of mine has brain cancer. He has survived it, fought it, for much longer than was expected. Miracles DO happen.

Good thoughts & best wishes being sent out to you all! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Hello All, :wave2:
Not sure what to say except it's been way too long and I missed you all. I just wanted wanted to post a ' Hello "

Hi Tina! :flower3:
Hi Julie: I am finally having my foot surgery next Thursday and having a cyst removed next Friday. I will be glad when it's over with !!!

I'll be thinking of you Tina!
I passed my Top 200 Drugs test today!!!

It was actually on over 250 drugs, and we had to know what they were used for, starting, typical, and maximum doses, side effects, and interactions. It was pretty stressful, because we need to pass it to be allowed to go on our clinical rotations. So that's one more hurdle over, and that much closer to finishing!

Woo hoo congrats Mike! That's awesome news! :woohoo:
greetings..:cool1: ..

is anyone off work for President weekend? I am taking DS#1 college shopping..

well off to ketchup

The kids have next week off. Means I get to sleep in all week! :yay:

A few comments from the 'owner' of the website (i.e. the guy who's paying the billls)

1. I considered setting up a forum when I set up the site but did not want to be seen as being a competitor to our gracious hosts here at the DIS.

2. There are no guarantees a forum on the piratezone will be fast. In fact it may be very slow and may not even be able to handle the traffic this group generates.

3.The site will eventually cease to exist sometime in the future unless someone is willing to pay for the domain name and hosting in future years. I agreed to host it until after the cruise but can't do it forever. So anything posted will not be around forever, unlike here on the DIS where threads last for years.

Clearly at some point we should have warned that anyone not already aware of them (basically, any woman who has given birth and any man who ever talked intimately to a woman as she recovered from such) just ignore all the Kegel references . . . :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Exactly what I was thinking!

Not sure if it will be on zone or off zone, but not on DIS. Like I said, a few issues to work through.
