Good question about Liz . . . were they heading off on vacation?

To live with a beagle you must have a certain tolerance for chaos . . . I like a dog with personality, too. I always say that what I like about beagles is that they are smaller dogs that think they're big dogs.

Yes, Rocky thinks he owns the street. He barks in sort of a Woo Woo Woo and everyone cracks up when he sounds off.

My advice to you with your friends, is to offer to help -- but don't leave it at that. When a family is going through something like that, they don't often think to ask, or feel uncomfortable asking, for help even from people who have offered. Just do things for them -- or call and ask if you can bring over pizza, or pick up their child from school, or do their lawn or laundry -- be specific. I can tell you from experience that something like this will be appreciated more than flowers. And don't forget about them once the initial crisis is over . . .

Julie, that is very true. :flower3:

Canceled check as payment for the box rental?

Unfortunalely not so easy. The check is from 2004. I haven't had that box since 1998 or so. I remarried in 2000. It is from MetLife. Says it is a dividend and a stock split. It may have been part of the divorce settlement that I didn't even know about. Who knows but if they want to give me $500 I will take it.:cool1: Sounds like cruise money to me. I am sure by the time I get it I will probably be back from the cruise, but it has been 4 years already so what does it matter how long it takes as long as they will give it to me.

Andrew have you had one of these? I haven't read about anyone having one.

This is a quote from a yahoo DCL group that I'm on:

I remembered our favorite dessert which a lunchtime waiter turned us onto. She called it "mickey fully loaded". It was a mickey bar in a bowl smothered with chocolate sauce, sprinkles, marshmallows, caramel sauce and anything
else you could want. It was so good that we got it at a few more
meals. Whenever a waiter asked for our dessert order we would all
start chanting "Mickey Fully Loaded!".

Oh, my kids are going to be ordering those this time:lmao:

Hey Tax peeps.....

How long do i have to keep old tax records for......?

I thought it was 3 years but then 2nd guessing myself that it's 5 ..

Fiends and neighors, shipmates and partners in crime... please accept my tearful thanks. Although not blood family we're closer To Jean and her beautiful family then I can clearly say. It's sort of scary to have this strike so close to home (but I've said that already). Well... I don't really know what to say - except that I don't feel alone in what we're experiencing among wonderful shipmates like we have here.

We are not clear what to do now. I was thinking of bringing flowers tomorrow - calling the hospital to try and follow the progress to sort of know how to proceed best. I feel a bit adrift ... especially when my thoughts wander to the possibility of this sort of thing happening to Alicia and I - or others we care about. Alicia says that last year when they discovered Jeans' renal cancer - the stage of progression left her with about a 20% chance for 2 years survival. Some may remember I spoke gently of this last year - in probably vague or imprecise terms.

Ooo... I don't think I mentioned that just this week one of Kalea's pre-school teachers - a young lady in her 20s has just taken medical leave. She has Crohnes Disease and had been under managment (Alicia ran into her at one of her Oncology accounts earlier last year)... however, shes' had no response to any threatment regiments. THAT makes the last 6-7 days very very sad and thought provoking for us.

I am strangely pensive - yet totally confused all of a sudden.

Well... for a change of topic (which I need right about now) ... TOM31.... I am sooo pleased that "I" was not the one to have editied in Andrews' image into the Dirty Rotten Scountrels image. Frankly... I was REALLY CHUCKLING out loud as I was editing my image and our screen names into that photo. And seeing your handy work TOM(31) stopped me cold to just stare (and smile) at the convenient/artful placement of Andrews' image in the Movie Promo picture.

OK... Folks, may I offer my GENUINE Thanks... again to everyone for your supportive thoughts. Those that have been expressed openly and to those who harbor them silently. I have a freshly renewed APPRECIATION for how these messages give strength and support for wounded folks.

head_chocolate.jpg

I gotta go now - we're off to Verizon to replace my nearly non-functional cell phone. I think I'll get a "chocolate" or a "crazor"...

I spent much of Monday with a very good friend that has a very aggressive form of breast cancer. I have mentioned her before. Younger than me. 2 small kids.
It is so hard to care so much for someone in pain and not be able to alleviate that pain (emotional and physical). I will definitely include your friends in my prayers.

I had a weird "found" money story. I have worked for a very large company for over 16 years. A few years ago I received a letter from my corporate office that made no sense to me. Basically sign this form and we will release funds. To make a very long story shorter- my company had self funded and self insured insurance when my oldest DD was born. When Megan come home from the hospital after 4 months we had 24 hour Pediatric RN's just to make sure she adjusted fine.
Turns out the private nursing company did not cash almost $12,000 worth of payments my company made to them. Since it had been over 10 years, they released the funds to me.
Now for the strange part. We think the reason they did not cash the checks was because one of the nurses (we never found out who) tried to steal us blind. We worked for a long time with the nursing company to find out who it was but never did discover the culprit.
The nurses would go into my DH'd home office at night (instead of watching their charge) and made copies of checks, credit cards etc. Then she dispatched this information so we battled these charges for years. A huge mess. We feel like we earned that $12,000.

It's the Federal Government. It isn't that easy. From Publication 552:

How Long To Keep Records

You must keep your records as long as they may be needed for the administration of any provision of the Internal Revenue Code. Generally, this means you must keep records that support items shown on your return until the period of limitations for that return runs out.

The period of limitations is the period of time in which you can amend your return to claim a credit or refund or the IRS can assess additional tax. Table 3 contains the periods of limitations that apply to income tax returns. Unless otherwise stated, the years refer to the period beginning after the return was filed. Returns filed before the due date are treated as being filed on the due date.

Table 3. Period of Limitations
IF you...THEN the period is...

1: Owe additional tax and (2), (3), and (4) do not apply to you -- 3 years

2: Do not report income that you should and it is more than 25% of the gross income shown on your return -- 6 years

3: File a fraudulent return -- No limit

4: Do not file a return -- No limit

5: File a claim for credit or refund after you filed your return -- Later of 3 years or 2 years after tax was paid.

6: File a claim for a loss from worthless securities -- 7 years

For the first time ever, last night the best of show at the Westminster Dog Show was a beagle, Uno:

300h.jpg

He was a real beagle, too, baying at the judge . . .

For those who don't know, Belle and Linus are my dogs and Belle is a beagle . . .

In the past I would often go to the dog show, but it is always on school nights, so that stopped when the kids came along. I would have liked to have seen this dog in person!

I saw the update this morning. What a cute dog:goodvibes What kind of dog is Linus ?

Isn't that true of kids too:lmao:

He looks just like our Buddie.

We were rooting for the beagle too - we have two, the aforementioned Buddie and Cinder who is mostly black and tan.

Motto.............better to be safe then sorry, 7 seven years, Store them in a file.:thumbsup2

I'll settle for a drink at the bar with you talking Doctor Who! Deal or no deal?

Would you include my DS12 in a non-bar talk.... he's really into Dr. Who & would love to talk with anyone who is into the show. Most of his friends have no idea what he is talking about. His drink of choice is usually lemonade or sprite. :goodvibes

Apparently chatty threads with large post counts were causing the DIS to grind to a halt, so they locked the old thread (it will return in smaller locked versions we are told) and now when we get to about 250 pages/3750 posts, they lock the thread and we go to next # in series (this is #3)

Interesting story to share not tax related but still intersting about saving stuff........... My ex and I had house together for 11 years then I bought him out and had house by myself for another 5 years in my name only. I sold house last June. During the process it showed an outstanding loan which I know couldn't be true. I had saved EVERYTHING, becasuse I did it didn't delay in the closing. It turned out that during the time that my ex and I owned the house our loan had be bought and sold 5 times !!!! One of those times the loans hadn't been released. I had the paper showing it did. The lawyer was so confused because he couldn't figure out how I got the house with the outstanding loan, uh Duh :rotfl2:
Moral of story..........keep everything. I have a 2 drawer file cabinet well labeled, just for that.:thumbsup2
