8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

Hi everyone!

Thought I would send an update since I am currently out of the hospital..it's been a long week and it's not over yet. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

I thought I had the stomach flu when I left Arizona on Monday...drove home in pretty bad pain and unfortunately vomiting...I just wanted to get home. On Tuesday..it didn't go any better and I went to the ER..turns out my gallbladder is full of stones but the bad party is that all 3 of my ducts were completely blocked with stone and I was turning yellow due to my liver starting to fail. I had a procedure on Wednesday that took care of that and a stint put in. I sat in the hospital until yesterdy waiting to have surgery to remove my gallblader. Unfortunatly, after 4 days in the hospital..I was advised that my local hospital no longer takes our insurance! :scared1: (I already have a bill of over 37K!) This will be a fun fight as they were required to nofiy me immediately. Anyways...I was discharged without the 2nd surgery and will now go to a new hospital next week that does honor the insurance. (They just dropped my insurance a few months ago and we had gone there several times before) Anyways...I am hoping that I do not have much pain until I can get the surgery and then I will go in during Jan or Feb and have the stint removed.

That's it in a nutshell!

Yikes :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Here's hoping everything goes smoothly.

Debi, is that real ice???? You are just 3 hrs north of me....I guess that 3 hrs makes a difference..... :scared1:

Not to worry Steph  this was taken after last years horrible ice storm that shut our power off for 10 days. We are supposed to be getting some "flurries" on Tuesday though.

Just passing through ta say....

... [edited]....

Now on another note... maybe some folks should begin to send some small hopes and prayers my way ... (or not). ... you see ... have I EVER mentioned that my spouse makes THE BEST Turkey? It's always tender and moist through out ... and it's something she lavishes great time and love preparing for us?

griffith1.jpg

Well... I went out today to meet up with 2 good friends and their kids for an afternoon at the Griffith Park Observatory. I was pretty involved with the preparations... making snacks, packing stuff, double checking this and that ... then we hustled out the door while I secured our loving over-weight Samoyed indoors ... I double checked that he was baby-gated out of the living room and all bedroom doors were closed.

We had tons of traffic getting there but oddly enough all 3 cars actually converged AT The entrance to the Observatory parking lot at the same MOMENT? Strange but a nice beginning I thought... (???)... well... we walked in to stand in line and wait the 40 minutes for the next series of show to go on sale - and I noticed someone ahead of me buying a ticket? Hmmm ... I thought ... what show did that fellow just buy I enquired .. and I learned they still had seats left for the current show which was set to begin in 15 minutes ... and at about 10 minutes before a show they stop selling tix. I realized - oh boy! ... we can get into the planetarium right now! SO we bought and went right in.... PERFECT!

On exiting we hustled down for another show starting in 10 minutes ... again PERFECT!

On exiting we went outside on the dining room patio for hot chocolate and havy snacks (which I packed) ... and enjoied what goes down as one of THE most beautiful sunsets I've EVER experienced of LA. Glittering city lights I've NEVER seen from this vantage point with an UNBELIEVEABLE canvas of clouds with the fading glow in the sky. A memory to last a life time in those minutes... and the 3 Dads gathered simply stood there soaking it up ...

060310-130..jpg

We then went in to view the exhibits - a short 30-40 minutes and then we departed - one to head to a hocky game - I and the other Dad retired to his home where his spouse cooked up a modest but simply incredible HOME COOKED meal .. the like of which I never see except from my Mom - who's no with us any longer. A simply wonderful meal that brings back a few memories from my childhood meals!

We had long conversation after dinner - talking about all manner of fun and serious things - plus my friend managed a quick and simple repair of my hard drive which I brought for him to look over - woo hoo! - then I departed.

I thought while driving home... WHAT an incredibly perfect day. 2 great friends and thier kids (and most of their families) shared in a humble, simply wonderful and memorable day!

That is ... until I got home. Upon entering ... I was carrying one of my two sleeping kids in the door... and as I entered the dog sort of took a glance at me and instead of greeting me he turned tail and I heard him dash through his dog door. OK... so it sounds as if he's been naughty. So what ... I thought. I tucked the two kids into bed - then went into the kitchen.

Alicia is out of town this weekend as it's the once a year that she has to work a convention - and this time we did not go. Sometimes we all go too. So I've been on my own a day till next week. And the first thing I notice is ... Oh Noooo.... the refridgerator door is OPEN. The BIG platter with the turkey is on the floor - and has been licked clean. Looking further into the fridge ... about 1/3rd of the bottom shelf is EMPTY... that was where we had some RUTH Chris left overs. Arrrgh! Plus I think there was a small container of Chinese take out too. Plus oddly enough there was also an empty box of Baby cereal. It was one of those pricey organic baby cereal brands... the ones you pay an extra dolar or so for for the privilage of having the fancy label and so on.

So I thought... every dog eventually has his day. Most of the turkey was already gone. The platter had about 1/2 of one breast and I think some greasy left over things/cuts we usually don't eat... and the body of bones had already been discarded (mostly). We still had another medium sized container of turkey cut up ... but the platter was the BIG one at this stage of the game. and out over weight dog got THAT plus a Ruth Chris steak and the box of Chinese left overs. Oh ... AND the box of gourmet organic baby cereal.

I think if Alicia were home tonite she would have gone and shot the poor thing.

I however, gave him a light slap on the back near his tail with a stern "BAD DOG" where upon he ran for the dog door again. Then I bid him come in 10 minutes later (after I cleaned up the floor) ... in a sweet voice I called him in... and he was all wagging tail and ears up. He's an old fella ... and so what ... he too had a totally PERFECT DAY ... as I had. So what!

Thxgvg_funny.gif

So what am I gonna tell Alicia? Well... I'll not go and mess up this day worrying about THAT little detail. Anyone with any sage advice is welcome to cough it up. I'm gonna check my email and try real hard to keep this day a simply perfect and beautiful one!:woohoo:

Does this dog ofours look INNOCENT or GUILTY?

Ooo....

You're gonna love this ... our wonderful dog just cut loose with some intense doggy "gas"... and boy oh boy is it .... intense. < chuckles > Be thankful you're not here! < confused expressions >

I was wondering the same thing. That pic would make a real nice xmas card. One of those once in a lifetime perfect pics.

Hope things are going a bit better for Debi. Say hi to Kevin as well.

Des,

Don't let them screw around. If you were Jaundiced... (ie eyes yellow, like i was when my g-bladder went Ca-putt) then they should have transferred you to the correct hospital's ER directly.

If you have any attacks what-so-ever, go directly to the ER (of a hospital that accepts your insurance and your GP or Surgeon should have them admit you immediately (if they know what they're doing).

I was put through the process too long (my surgeon actually admitted me the same day he met me and he said the yellow eyes is a sign you're liver is shutting down) and don't want to see anyone else suffer either....

(Girl- just give me the phone number of that insurance company- and i'll give them a piece of my mind....)

I am an amazingly healthy person sans this year. Started off w/ my little baby basal cell on my nose which took 5 surgeries. Then women stuff for the next surgery and 2 "procedures" in Nov and now in Wed they are stucking out my female innards (partial hysterectomy). At least I will be all done w/ medical stuff next year.

When I went to the ER last week - that's why they admitted me..my liver was failing and I was yellow (and in pain). The surgeon did a procedure (where I will spare you all the setails) and removed the stones from my liver. I have a stint now.

As for now...I still have some discomfort (can't tell if it's pain or hunger sometimes) and I will be scheduled by this time tomorrow (hopefully!) for surgery within the next few days. Both the surgeon and my regular doctor say to go to the ER if I have severe pain. I have meds for just pain but it hasn't been bad enough to take it. Hopefully by this time next week I will be home and recuperating! Thanks though..I appreciate the info. I didn't even realize I had turned yellow. Ugh! What a week!

To all my friends who are feeling yucky...

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery....and healthy New Year!

You had me (and I guess Coral, also) worried for a minute! LOL! Although it is supposed to be cold tomorrow! UGH!!!
It was in the 70's yesterday!!!

 So, far the best thing about 2008 is that I got to meet all of you!!! The actual trip was nice, too! ;)

I just have to say, what a great town you have here. I think I got to see most of the greater Dallas area on my Super Shuttle 3 hour tour.....

You took the shuttle??? OH MY!!!! If I had known that I would have talked Jon into picking you up Sunday night!!! We were home by 6pm!
What time did you finally get to your hotel????

I am such a sucker for my kids!!! I let 17dd audition for another show last night...This one doesn't open until the first part of Feb. And rehearsals don't start until January....but, i know that this is going to be the last year that she is going to have the time and chance for some of these things -- she graduates this year. And she will soon be too busy with college and perhaps a *real* job.
She'll find out today if she got a part........ We hope so!!! We absolutely love the director!!

Keeping everyone in my thoughts. Here's to a great 2009!

Well,

It isn't a permanant job yet but I am starting another temp position tomorrow.

It is an admin position and pays a few dollars an hour more though and there's more of a chance that i could become hired.

I feel just slightly bad about leaving here because i am only able to give one days notice.

(ok bad feeling over) :goodvibes

I had to run an errand downtown yesterday on the same block as my old job. (the one who let me go in July.)

I really don't miss them and I'm glad that the county hiring freeze has shafted that dept because they are not able to re-hire for that position.

Karma i tell ya....
