OMG - 42 hour train ride! And 17 + 4 pieces of luggage!

Safe travels! I'm not sure I'd have the patience to be on a train with 4 kids!

I haven't travelled on Amtrak since making a trek from Kansas City to New Mexico to go to Philmont Scout ranch back in 1983. I wonder if it's changed much since then.

Wow, that's a lot of luggage. Are the 7 carry-ons just backpacks, etc.?

But, I bet you don't have a stroller, a full-size car seat, and a booster seat! We are planning on doing laundry 2-3 times also. Guess that's why I thought we wouldn't have quite as many bags as we do. Aren't you glad we're on SW?

True, we have a "full size" bag for each of us plus a carry-on size bag but we plan to take FULL advantage of Southwest's policy and check it all!

What a day I have had packing. After packing a large bag very carefully, I went to zip it up and guess what? A broken zipper. Arg! Went out and got two new ones thinking an extra one wouldn't hurt. Then it happened again with another suitcase, the zipper tore away from the case! Guess I should be glad we picked up two to begin with. We still might need another one, we'll see tomorrow when I finish the last minute things! Bummer, would have been nice to spend that money on other things, like those things that shine and wrap around my finger!!!! I guess that was on my mind since tomorrow is our 18th wedding anniversary.

Have a Safe trip, I would love to go by train across the country. WOW that is amazing. Please be safe and have a great time on the train with the kids. We all can't wait to meet you and I am also getting very excited about leaving. Already starting finally packing and just waiting for the boys to get packed. Then just getting odds and end stuff.

Again - please have a safe journey on the train and take lots of pictures. What fun you all are going to have.

Why is he trying to get me to wait until I'm onboard to add stateroom credits??? He's said it 3 times now, "You know you can do this onboard?"

When they sent the itinerary this morning, it was to run it by me to make sure that it was all right. A couple of months ago, when people asked about Mass, some people asked guest services if Mass could be scheduled daily. DCL asked if I would be willing to do that and I agreed. Certainly we won't get a lot of people, but there are those of us out there who like to attend daily Mass.

As to the excursion question, in Aruba, I had an excursion scheduled (8:45 a.m. Submarine). I went on line and modified it to a later time so that I could celebrate the 8:30 a.m. Mass. I emailed my DCL contact and just asked that, if there is any "penalty" for modifying the res so close to sailing that they would waive it for me. There should be no problem.

I'm a morning person and all those times are perfectly fine with me.



Actually, I'm quite happy that they accommodated the request of several of the passengers. Now, we'll just wait to see if anyone shows at those daily times!

Wow...........where did the time go???? Hope you have better luck with Amtrak than I did just going to Michigan. For every 2 and a half hour trip by train......one hour was added on. This could mean your train trip could take 17 hours more!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope their are no freight trains in your way!!! At least you have lots of extra time before TOAL.

Well add me to the list of folks with last minute ailments. For the last few days I've been dealing with red, itchy and peeling skin on my hands. Not sure if it's a reaction to the new hair products I've been using (that's the only change I've made) or what. I have never had exzema so I don't think that's it, although I've read that it can come on at any time.

Called the doctor and they can't get me in today, so add an appointment to my already busy day tomorrow. DS has an appointment, then his school orientation, a haircut for him, then my appointment. Ending the day with a surprise outing to see a Clone Wars advance screening.

yes tom to ecited he was ready since he packed counting the days i have been sick i had a shot on foot for my plan? something rather (spur) and was out for 2 days than i started some pills that have steroids and other stuff for swelling so thast made me very ill so been dizzy last few days and weak have 2 more days of this and i will be done with them but i am ready to go have a magical time @ disneyland and etc.... i keep seeing my bags and makes me wanna GOOOOOOO LETS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

They didn't cancel all the reservations all at once, but as some did get cancelled some folks were able to pick them up. I think it's just a matter of checking several times a day every day.

I misread the question before. Yes, as we were being called to confirm by DCL's Palo rep for the group room everyone was posting that resies would be opening and others jumped on them right away. Lots of people were able to get resies for brunch and dinner those days.

I didn't know how grateful I would be to be flying SW this trip when I booked it. It is taking much of the stress away...and allowing me the opportunity to not have to do laundry while on this trip.

With all the luggage everyone is said to be taking, I am very worried the MAGIC is going to sink, and talking about that I bet a few of you are taking the kitchen sink with you!

Last repo was the same, and it took ages to get off the ship as so many People took small cases off with them and the gangway was crowed and the luggage area very crowded.

The also brought forward the last suitcase time on last night from 12 midnight to 10pm, in view of the luggage brought on at LA.
