...and those of us with current Cubs (and younger) might have the chance to go to Denali High Adventure Scout Base in Alaska someday. They have the land, master plan, EPA clearance and are raising money now. Local troops are primitive camping on the site. It is 2,200 acres adjacent to Denali (Mt. McKinley) National Park. Absolutely breath taking.

The council figures if it is going to cost troops more time and money to get there, it needs to be better than Philmont. They have some great plans.

My Dad and brother each went to Philmont & a National Jamboree (Dad did both as a kid & was an editor of the daily Jamboree newspaper).

My oldest just signed up for the National Jamboree in 2010.

People come all the way from NY to NM for Boy Scout camp?

Actually from all over the world. When I was there, there were kids from Europe and Australia. It's not just boy scouts either, any youth group can go there. We saw lots of co-ed groups as well as all girl groups along the trails.

To Philmont.....oh YES! I did not understand it myself.....but saw the slide show from last years trip at our councils dinner and all I can say is AMAZING!!!
If I didnt HATE camping I would go myself

Philmont.. it is an amazing once in a live time, life changing experience.. Geoff ( DS#1) was there for 3 weeks 2 years ago and will be a counselor the next summer.. we picked him up from Philmont and toured the base camp and the Phillips house.. I would love to go if i can talk another mom to go to..

M--that park sounds awesome.

I learned a lot from my experience at Philmont and enjoyed it tremendously. However, the ending was bittersweet for me as we had a tragedy occur in our family while I was gone. Unfortunately, that overshadows my experiences at Philmont and is what I will always remember.

I know you've already left but...Wellsvile is in Montgomery County -- half way between Columbia and St Louis. ;-) off of I-70.

Thanks. that's the other side of the state..I remember seeing it now. I just didn't venture over to the St. Louis side too much.

Well, off to the airport in 30 minutes to begin our TOAL!!!!

Safe Travels to everyone and look forward to meeting everyone Sunday, if not before!

Get on the train.. keep looking for the 12th time in the laptop bag.. like it will appear magically.. Took my blackberry out to check emails and FOUND IT in behind the Blackberry.. :worship: in the little blackberry pocket.. i AM SO RELieved.. so that is my day so far.. how is yours??

I was scared for you when I was reading what happened! ACKK!

I found the Contemporary too loud - I love the location and the new rooms but the A frame building all open like that just makes that lobby way too loud.

Well, I guess we'll stick with the GF! LOL!

Everyone leaving today... Have a safe and happy trip!!!

Would :yay: and screaming be inappropropriate?

Just clocked in time to miss the pirate:

And I see my old friends DISNEYSPIRIT have not forgotten us

 Tom & Lynn

Hi Laura, Our fur kids say hi to yours! Can't wait to trade stories about them.:thumbsup2

My oldest just signed up for the National Jamboree in 2010.

Geoff went in 2005 and has signed up to work the OA area.. look for a guy with the big headress and that is him..

Reposting for those of you that missed this prior to the pirate: run

Ahoy You Scurvy Bilge Rats
All Pirates Sailing on the Jolly Roger/Jolly Pirate in Aruba

I have been in correspondence with my new buddy Carla at the Jolly Pirate in Aruba today and she has offered to send buses to pick us up at the ship for free!! We will have to find our own way back but I thought this was a very gracious offer from her. She has made a request that we do not meet up and come out as a group since there is no way that they can load the buses or boats if we all show up in mass. She has requested that we all meander to the cruise terminal and meet her awaiting personnel who will take our web confirmations and give us boarding cards for the buses. I believe that the cruise terminal probably has some shops to look around. Carla prefers it this way so that everyone is not waiting around. They can not handle all of us at once. As a bus fills it will leave for the boat. I still need to get back with her for what time we need to meet her. I will have further updates before we leave or on the ship. I will re-post this on the Pirate Zone and again after the pirate: run which looks to be under way.
[/QUOTE]

Ummmm Roger? What TIME should we casually, not as a mob head out to catch the bus?

UPS has decided not to let us ship the sunblock -- even though we had all the correct paperwork for shipping aresol canisters.

Dh is having his shipping dept check with their UPS rep because it is also a strike against dh's company -- for trying to ship hazardous material. I told Jon I would have left the sunblock off the list if I had known it would be such a problem.
So, now I have to pack 24lbs of stuff..... Great!

We ae grandfathered in and can have 2 bags each BUT, I really didn't want to have that much luggage!!!

On the Olympics... The scoring seems really unfair. We do a routine that is awesome-complicated with no flaws, the crowd is going wild, and we get a score of 14. The chinese almost totally fall off the mat and they still get a 16. I realize I'm no expert with gymnastics or diving but :confused3

:lmao: Was wondering how long it would take for someone to ask! Just figured 16 days *7 (normally use around 6/day)... Will actually have more than that, I think when it's all said and done...

I guess I shouldn't try to do math at night! It's 17 days *7... But now I have to add more diapers since we decided to do WDW for a few days!

He needs some green kool aid. Congrats wench!

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Actually, if there is a phone# next to the charge it would be faster to just call them.Really, most banks do not have any additional info about the charges except telling you the type of merchant it is. They will probably write off that charge as it is so small. Ask if it was swiped or keyed in. May help remember
what it is.

That card apparently quit putting a phone number or anything like that on the statement. All I see is
Plia-wide Open Spaces Albuquerq
He said he could send me a copy of the receipt that they submitted, but that'll take 30 days. The guy did tell me that it is a souvineer shop.
I'm hoping when I talk to the people about contesting the charge today (I'm going to call them again) they'll be able to tell me more about it. I'll also remember to ask if it was keyed or swiped. That's a good question. But the other odd thing is that the purchase was made on Tuesday in a city 2 hours away. DH was working and I was home with a sick baby!

But now we're afraid to continue using that card... What if the number and info really was stolen and they're just testing to see if it works?

Not yet! Maybe 2009!!

Thanks for the heads up -- I left 25dd in charge of finding out WDW stuff!

Poly is just way tooloud for me when you walk in... I would like to try the Contemporary sometime..... DH HAS to stay @ a monorail resort.

We always stay as cheap as possible. We would rather stay cheaper for longer and do more vacations per year instead of one big huge high-end room vacation.

I'll second that thought... 4 more days of work.. and then ..

BTW i had a real scare this morning.. missed my traintype scare.. for all of the bottom line only folks.. everything is ok

I thought I lost my wallet.. credit cards, driver license, health card., cash station card. etc.. I went to Target last night and then thought I put it in my laptop bag like always.. I am driving off to the train this morning and looked for my wallet .. wanted to see if I had any money.. not in the pocket it belongs..stopped and looked all over the laptop bag..in all the pockets .. zipped and unzipped each one.. not there. turned around went home.. not on my desk, not in the pocket of the jeans I had on last night.. not in the kitchen or the bath.. nowhere..

So my mind is racing.. ok i can get on a plane with the passport.. if I cancel the credit cards will i get a replacement before Friday.. prob not.. so I can bring am ex checks.... So i wake up DH and ask him to drive me to train.. as I don't have a license.. he said he would look around the house some more and then go to Target.. I am PANICed.. but have the train ticket and badge to get to work in another pocket of laptop bag..

Oh how scary! Glad it turned out OK!

I had no idea. It has always just been the local camp when I was growing up.
My neighbor's son has been going there, or been a counselor, for over 10 years. This summer was the 1st summer he did not and he is almost out of grad school and working the summer in his field.

ditto all that

Me too!

Here are some pictures from our adventures at Pinks yesterday with Chrissie and Brenden :yay:

I don't want to see the roaches.........I just meant the computer light on.;)

My oldest just signed up for the National Jamboree in 2010.

So where does that mean you will be traveling where with him???:confused3

It is everything from the Health and Beauty that weigh so much. First take sun tan lotion to get tan........then take aloe vera if you tan..........then take sunblock to prevent tan. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wow took me forever to ketchup. Good thing most of it was fluff.:lmao:

Safe travels to all who are leaving soon, wish it were me. And to those who already left or are in S. CA - see you on Sunday. I still have 3 1/2 days of work.

As for names, no one calls me by my proper name (Theresa) except the nuns in grade school and my Mom when I was in trouble. Weren't too many Theresa's or Terri's when I was in school. My last name was fairly common and then I went and married a Smith. Talk about common. And when I named my daughters it was family names. But there ended up being 4 Sarah's in my youngest daughter's kindergarten class and we couldn't even do Sarah S, because there was another Sarah S. Now my oldest daughter paid me back by naming her son a name I have never heard before - Dignan. I am told it is Celtic. And now I have a last name that isn't so common but 10 letters long. Smith was so much easier to sign.

I am not accomplishing much at work this week. I have new employees starting the next two Monday's and have to have one of my assistants handle all the paperwork. And I have to be back to work on the 2nd because I have another new employee. Then one more the following week. And I had a site employee start yesterday that I have to finish all the paperwork for...and a staff meeting today. So I guess I should quit DISing and get to work?

I got to do my treadmill now. This way I can eat another half of chocolate lava cake.:thumbsup2

So where does that mean you will be traveling where with him???:confused3

I won't be going, he will go alone (with adult Scoutmasters).

Its the Boy Scout National Jamboree http://www.bsajamboree.org/

“The best, most exciting, fun-filled, safest jamboree ever!”Welcome to the 2010 National Scout Jamboree Web Site
During the next two years, various sections of this web site will be updated and expanded to keep you as a Scout, troop leader, jamboree staff member, or interested member up to date on this exciting event.

The countdown clock is ticking so start making your plans to attend!

Scouting Paradise, Jamboree Style
Nestled in the rolling green hills of Virginia, close to our nation’s capital, Fort A.P. Hill lies near many historical Civil War landmarks. This 76,000-acre facility has hosted the national Scout jamboree since 1981. The Boy Scouts of America uses approximately 3,000 acres of land to support a city of more than 43,000 Scouts and leaders.

What is There to Do?
You name it! The jamboree program reflects the skills of Scouting—physical fitness, environmental conservation, our national heritage, and the true spirit of Scouting.

See yourself rappelling, discovering scuba, kayaking, rafting, and sailing. Experience trap shooting, archery, bikeathlons, buckskin games, confidence courses, conservation trail, and more! There is not enough time in the day for all the exciting activities that are there waiting for you to try.

Daily activities include an incredible merit badge midway, arts and sciences, a re-creation of Baden-Powell’s original Scout camp on Brownsea Island, an American Indian village, regional entertainment stages, and many other activities. The arena shows are a highlight for all participants. The jamboree is Scouting at its very best!

Jamboree City Rises Again
At dawn on July 26, 2010, dew on the empty fields shimmers in the growing daylight. And then … here they come! By noon, throngs of Scouts are carrying gear and tents, and gateways begin to emerge from the empty ground. By dusk, the landscape has been transformed into a bustling city of 18,000 tents, 3,600 patrol kitchens and 43,000 Scouts and leaders. This transformation occurs in mere hours, making Jamboree City the fastest growing city in Virginia, if not the world.

Amid the thousands of colorful tents that will house participants and provide program and support services, there is an infrastructure that provides a safe and secure environment at Fort A.P. Hill. Everything from bus systems, telephone and Internet, to first-aid stations and a hospital, police and fire departments, post offices, food warehouses, a daily newspaper, and retail stores (trading posts and concession stands) provides all the support and program services needed for an outstanding event.

It's a small world after all!

I just called Disney Visa to have them add the travel note and the agent I spoke with was sitting next to Arlene  Hey Cheryl - Arlene says "Hi!" :thumbsup2

Ditto that! Though I did know a bunch of "Teresa's" and "Terri's" when I was growing up, none were in my classes. One case of mistaken identity though, apparently I had a distant cousin with the same first/last names... In college, her transcripts were stapled onto mine and no one bothered to even check that I would've been 1 yr old when she failed out of that college :scared1: :scared1: The first time I went to the Dr in town after I moved here, they rudely asked "Do you have insurance?" I was like "Yeah..." Then they gave me paperwork for a woman that was 20 or so yrs older. And then creditors called my sister and asked if she knew me (again mistaken identity!)

It bugs me that no one can spell my name correctly... I always have to say "Teresa, no 'h'" and they still mispell it! I too go by Terri most of the time. In college, I always knew how people knew my name... If it was from a friend or I introduced myself, it was "Terri" but if they looked at an assignment or something, it was "Teresa". I always thought Teresa was more professional sounding so I started using that at work after college too. :confused3
