Morning, everyone -- happy friendship day and 2 weeks until the cruise!

We are having a NYC pirate meet today -- I will try to post photos later today or tomorrow.

I could go for a greasy slice of NY pizza. It just isn't the same here.DH had a pizza store for a while and even tho he used the same ingredients as he did in NY the dough wasn't the same. It definitely is the water.

I'll be thinking of you around lunch time.

Help help help!! Haven't been as active on these boards as I wanted...had a lot of very stressful time consuming things happen last few months. Well, now it all takes the cake.

1) DD9 starts limping really badly. Took her to docs, have xray done. She has a bone deformity called a coalition - a painful bone deformation. surgery is the cure. DH had his heart mitral valve repaired two years ago - we only had my mom and I as caregivers. Full open heart surgery. It was easily a full year recovery - full year of me bring in charge of all...Of course her surgery won't be so scary, but, hey, its my kid and I know I will further age 20 years in one year. At best, she can walk a lot, at worse, since we will delay surgery, she wil be in portable splint, or wheel chair. She is a completely active child, so it will behard for her!! Luckily, its not too painful if she stays off of it.

2) DS12 comes back from Scout Camp. Had a blast. Gotten bitten by a deer tick. Incubation time for Lyme disease symptoms beginning are now until a week after we board the ship. I am thinking of taking him to our doc and getting the meds now, and if he begins to get ill, have the doc on board monitor him. He could give me the go ahead to give the drug, couldn't he?

Any of you brilliant wonderful people personal experts on Lyme disease? What I have read, it looks like we are totally hosed. I THINK, tho, they got the tick off fast. Area where they were camping is one of the highest in the US for lyme disease...

Oh my!! You are in definate need of a I have a 9 yo DD. I am sure she will help your DD if things are bad on the trip. PM me and she can send an e-mail to her.

OK, that means nothing to you...DS9 has a good buddy from Alaska who was born with a heart defect. Great kid, great family. DS's entire K class and most of the school did the local Heart Walk and the school still does it every year for Shawn. Towards the end of 1st grade, Shawn was accepted into the heart transplant program at Stanford. We did fundraisers, we've send cards, we've prayed. When we booked our last cruise, youngest DD was TBA at the time of booking & that is what our confirmation showed. Advised our TA once she arrived & she dealt with the necessary to give her a name! Good luck on the "project", and least it should be a fun one!

One of my parishioners was on a list for a few years before a heart became available to him. He was, quite literally, on death's door when a match was finally found. That was last year, as the family likes to tell it, on Super Bowl Sunday.

Zach was the winner that day!

Follow-ups have been magnificent and he is now at minimal meds, basically for anti-rejection.

That miracle, as you indicated in your post as well, is only possible when people say "yes" to organ donation.

I am a donor . . . and I hope that everyone who reads this and who is not considers taking that little bit of time to let people know -- and to put it on their driver's license -- that they wish to donate whatever is needed after their death.

What a wonderful last gift we could make to others!

By the way, do they know about http://www.caringbridge.org/? It is a free site that allows people to post updates about their illness and their recovery. That would be a great way for people to be aware of your son's buddy's recovery.

There is one at a beach at the entrance to San Pedro harbor but it does not refresh on a regular basis. I have only been able to catch the Magic once this summer.

Not an expert on lyme, but what I have read, the longer the tick is on, the more likely it is to transmit (assuming it was infected to begin with). So if they got it off quick, you are in better shape.

Just watch the bite area and if it is red or gets a circle around it, get to Dr.

DIS'ers are great!

If you are really that scared of flying, go see your doctor and get something for anxiety - it will really help. Or you could just have a drink before you board and another one or two enroute to LA .

I got a prescription for an anti-anxiety med from the doc for flying. I gotta try it out ahead of time to see how sleepy it makes me.

I did get the vacuum put together and tried it out. So far I like it; it was one of the best ranked ones on Consumer Reports and got good marks for pet hair. I also got 3 loads of laundry done.

Well I gotta run. DD needs to read (don't ask me what she wants to read about) all about the book (Breaking Dawn) she finished reading. Got it at midnight last night and she worked since noon today, but somehow she managed to read all 754 pages of it already. She just informed me she was done in 16 hours of getting it with sleep and work in there.

Did she like it? I'm afraid to start it as I really don't have the time to read it right now

I have a theory
I think Roger has figured out a way to push his post into the thousand spot and since he is probably worried about Tom catching up, he needs a bit of a buffer to make sure he takes the title of head pirate.
Now since pirating is a big part of being a pirate and theoretically anyone can do this if they figure out Roger's secret, his pirates are legit...

We just send them out to be pressed on the ship. The cost is 1/2 the cost of drycleaning. The price is actually fairly reasonable.
