I was not impressed with the H2O products. Didn't even bother to stash any from the last cruise. :confused3

This is how jaded I am about earthquakes - Was on the phone with Chris earlier and she mentioned there was a quake. But it was only 5.8 so I haven't given it another thought until I come here and you all are discussing it. Haven't had the TV on all day, so I turned on CNN, sure enough they are still covering it. Thing is, they'll find the most shocking pictures and leave those up the whole time. Doesn't mean the whole area has fallen apart, just the few buildings or store shelves they are showing.

The tips Tom posted are good advice, but most times you don't have time to do any of that. Once you feel it and get ready to react, it's over. This particular one lasted a bit longer but most don't.

_____

Got an email and they are targeting the next interview for Tuesday. Said they will get back to me with the time either today or tomorrow.

Dising in traffic. I've gone 4 blocks in 35 minutes. I'll take a non-damaging earthquake any day.

Who haven't we heard from besides Crash and Roger?

I have asked this before...but am still having difficulty. I have been trying to get some help making door magnets. Some of you were kind enough to put some links to check out. I have found some that I like, but have had no luck getting much response from people to help make them. Have any of you had good luck with any of the designers? I would love some help in this area.

Thanks,
Carol

I was reading the Disneyland boards and the Disneyland hotel was evacuated, they had some concerns. GCH is fine as recently built, but they are checking out the DLH, hope its ok for me in a few weeks.

Um ditto that! :scared:

I am putting them in the Towels and Pillows.:rotfl2:

:lmao:

I would be the one freaking out on all three. :rotfl2:

Hmmm now I have to make room for Towels & Pillows ? I still need room to bring the waitstaff with me. :rotfl2:

Forgot to mention............I quit my job so nobody mention it on the ship o.k I will worry about finding another one when I get back. I feel FREE !!:cheer2:

Tina lost the quote where you were thanking me for Chuck's cake! Always glad to post a cake & make someone smile! :goodvibes

Sounds like you made the best decision if you are that relieved! :yay:

I have to look for a job soon after we get back too. I don't think we have to worry because I think the last thing anyone wants to thing about on the TOAL is work! Blech! :sad2:

 :cool1: now that its getting closer i am reading the boards LOL  :cool1: :woohoo:

It's funny you should think of this... We have been practicing the "Mickey Boat Flush" from time to time so he's not scared. Ask him and he says:

WOOOSSSSHHHHHH

I'm looking forward to his face when he really hears it!

Thanks for the warning...I would hate for my 3yo to be scarred for life. :rotfl:

Wow..we just had a big earthquake here..epicenter Chino Hills!

I'm still feeling shaky!

Glad you are OK, since you were the first person that I thought of when we learned the location.

Scary stuff - I'm glad you're OK.
I hope all our CA friends are good!

Hope the earthquake was not big or didn't affect you.....

Thank you to every ones well wishes.

Wonder if the quake is due to Roger's 14th pirate:??

Looks like it wasn't too bad. DL is inspecting all the rides and intends to reopen quickly.

Imagine if this was in 2 weeks.....

Ummm, don't try to pin the blame on me :lmao: What you think I have angered the pirate: gods?

In an emergency, txt is the way to go, smaller packets push through the system when phone calls can't get through.

The phones being down may just be overload as opposed to damage.

Yes the cell phone system was down for awhile and it was due to overuse not any damage.

OK here is my blonde moment/question of the day:

Do the quakes just happen at any time or are there "seasons" for them?

Chrissie

Actually Chrissie we do have what we call "Earthquake weather" When it gets really hot (100+) around here usually in September or October. Most people that live here think this is when most earthquakes happen. But according to Lucy Johnson, our local earthquake expert at Cal Tech, there is no correlation and they can happen anytime.

Our Story:
Yesterday we went a local Lenscrafters store looking for some new sunglasses. Found a pair that I really liked but the wrong color. So they found the color that I liked in Northridge. Today we take off to Northridge (you might remember this as the site of the big quake in 1994 that killed a bunch of people). So we are standing in the Northridge Lenscrafters store when we started to feel the floor moving under our feet. It was a weird sensation and realized that we were having an earthquake. This one was different than most in that it rolled for maybe 10 seconds and almost stopped and then got a lot stronger. All of a sudden we realized 1) we are in Northridge where they still get a lot of quakes since 1994 and 2) the store we are in is covered in mirrors. Everyone makes a quick but calm exit out to the parking lot. We notice that all of the street lights are swaying back and forth as well as the cars. We look across the street and there are people everywhere coming out of buildings. We could tell from the shaking that this one was at least a 5 (after living through so many you get good at guessing the magnitude) but it was a roller, my favorite kind, versus a jerky one like the Northridge one of 1994, my least favorite kind. Anyway we found out that it was in Chino Hills 40-50 miles SE of us. So we went and had lunch at the Northridge Mall and parked in the structure that collapsed in 1994. You never know maybe we can have a little 3 or 4 while you all are here just so you can say you have lived through one.

I did my last cruise just before H2O products were used. I am still bringing my own just incase I don't like them.:headache:

I will be keeping everything crossed for you.

Be sure to read the first post of the threads you've requested in. Some of the designers are no longer customizing but allow you to take their blank designs and add your own words. Also look at the last several pages. If all you see are requests and no designs posted, then that person probably is not designing at the moment.

KristineN seems to not be designing right now. I have seen her post elsewhere but not on her cruise magnet thread. Not sure what's going on there.

I've gone through many photobucket accounts and picked out some blank designs. Once I get the time (yeah right!) I'll add my own words. A very simple way to do that is in PowerPoint. Open a blank template, insert the cruise picture of choice, insert a text box, add you words, choose your font, color, etc.

Hey Monica,
It seems Lori's dad is not coming down this week - so I'll double check that it's okay w/daugter-in-law to go this Thursday.
Just leaving to go shopping - TTYL!!

So - true story: I was a high school senior and had a friend from Louisiana staying over. That night there was an earthquake at about 3 or 4 in the morning (about a 4 magnitude). The next morning he was completely freaked out. Not just by the earthquake, but by my reaction (which I didn't even remember). When it happened, he jumped up, and supposedly I just rolled over and told him "go back to sleep, it's just an earthquake".

By then I'd already been through a few small ones, so I guess I was just jaded.

Keep in mind that construction in California takes earthquakes into account. A 5.4 is scary, but it's not likely to do any major damage. Also, distance from the earthquake is not a good predictor of damage - it's very easy for damage to be worse farther from the epicenter depending on the type of ground, the type of construction (age of buildings), and the way the ground waves move.

I was in the Loma Prieta quake of 89, and it was one of the scariest things I ever exprienced (when they tell you to get under a doorway during a quake, they don't mention that you might not be able to stay on your feet).

My best suggestion right now to everyone - turn off CNN. It's just going to stress you out.

We turned it off and went on our way..my concern is always that our house was built in 1950 and so doesnt have the same construction as the new ones...

The Whittier Narrows Fault also runs right through our house so we always keep that in mind..it was obvious when I left the house that we did have some damage..our driveway has severe cracks and lifted and our back patio has an area that lifted but over all..its ok.

For me it wasn't as big a deal as for my DD..this was the biggest one she has gone thru and so was worried as kids do...but life has gone on and she went thru something worse after the earthquake..we picked up her books to start school Monday :lmao:

Glad you are all okay!!!  I could really do without the experience of a quake while I am out there!!!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Well, to gain some perspective.... sailing on the magic will itself be very much like a long, not particularly strong, rolling earthquake. The only real difference is that the movement is unexpected and unwelcome on land. So you're going to get a taste of it whether you like it or not :rolleyes1

Chrissie

I was going to be a smart add but was afraid someone wouldn't get my sense of humor here...

They can happen anytime but to be honest..we don't get larger ones very often..as I said..my DD is 11 and this has been the first one she really has gone thru that wasn't pretty small and she slept thru.

Wow! I called my sister as soon as I heard (she is in Venice!) I have always wanted to live through a "mild" earthquake. I used to be in CA all the time for biz and never once did we get an earthquake. Actually it's good that it happened BEFORE we get there as it perhaps is less likely to happen again. It's pretty amazing engineering that they build with earthquakes in mind . ..
