Since Inventory Control has been busy today.....here's a repost of who you need to contact

We have our cabin!

Now I just need help with the magnets. Thank you all for sharing, but how do I add text to the templates. Do I save them first?

Okay let me ask again.. since I typo'd originally. (sigh- i ask a question about our specific room and put the wrong room number!)

Is 6130 starboard or port side?

Just got off the phone with a potential employer. I just submitted for the job yesterday. Not sure if my resume stood out that much, or they just haven't gotten many applicants. Doesn't really matter to me either way.

The conversation was just a screening type interview but she's going to forward my information to the hiring manager and try to schedule a phone interview for tomorrow.

Prayers to whomever you pray to, all the pixie dust you can spare, and crossing all your crossables would be appreciated.

i am praying for you...a adding a ton of PD

Took me days to ketchup!

Is everyone still doing the cliff divers excursion? I'm wondering if we should bother paying that much after the reports of it from others. But then there really isn't anything ELSE to do with such a short, and early, time there! :(
Is everyone else still going to the cliff divers excursion thru DCL?

We're still doing it - hoping for the best.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but are any of you doing any excursions at this port? DW and I are considering doing one here and leaving DD and DS in the kids club.

We're still doing the excursion in Cartagena. I have to have faith that if DCL thinks it's safe, it is.

But, hey, does that really matter? :)

I want to run a piece of email by you to see what you think. I know that some of you on this thread are also DVC members. I get emailed and pm'd a lot about DVC and my thoughts, so I decided to put a little something together. I wanted to see what you all think, suggestions you might have, et cetera.

Here goes:
______________________________

I am frequently asked my opinion about DVC, particularly about making the decision to purchase, whether it should be resale or direct from Disney, et cetera. I always write quick responses to people, but have decided to put some of my thoughts down into this FAQ of sorts. If it helps you, all the better. If it does not, ignore it and pretend you never heard from me! J
Some quick thoughts:
  • DVC or resale? There is a “reservation window” to consider. A DVC member has the opportunity to make reservations 11 months ahead of time at the “home resort” – the resort into which the points were purchased. If a member wishes to make a reservation at a non-home resort, that member must wait until 7 months before the vacation. It is becoming harder, as more people come into DVC, to get a place at the 7 month reservation window. If you want to stay anywhere particular, especially at high demand times/seasons, it would be best to purchase where you wish to stay so that you have an 11 month reservation window. That is the main reason for purchasing resale. Because if you purchase direct from Disney, you can only make an initial purchase at the location(s) that are presently on sale. I think I heard that Saratoga Springs has sold out or will sell out soon, so that would leave Animal Kingdom Villas. So, if you want to stay somewhere else fairly regularly, you would want to pursue resale.
  • Will DVC benefit me anywhere? Buyers should purchase only if they are planning to spend their time at the DVC locations. If someone is making a DVC purchase with the hopes of trading their ownership out for rent in other timeshares such as Interval International, they may find that they will lose a lot in the process. They often do not get the trade/deal that they want. If they get a place, they trade away more points than worth the trade (example, they trade away points for a 2 bedroom Disney and only get a 1 bedroom somewhere else.) Additionally, if purchasing DVC to stay at other Disney hotels or to use for Disney Cruise Line, a person would be money ahead simply looking for rent deals or discounted vacation times and pay cash rather than trade out points along with a reservation fee. Right now, Disney charges a $95 transaction fee for using DVC points at their other hotels or on the cruise line.
  • Where should I buy? Potential buyers should go to Disney and spend time at the different areas rather than buying "the best deal." For myself, all my points are at the Boardwalk because that is where I stay 90% of the time. I love the area because it is a close walk to Disney's Hollywood Studios and to EPCOT. Other people do not like that area at all, preferring a Downtown Disney location at Saratoga Springs. So, make sure you take the chance to view all the locations and decide what is best for you. There are a lot of "experts" out there who would like to tell you what is best for you. However, you are the only person who knows what you like! Go with your preferences, not someone else's.
  • How many points should I purchase? In determining how much to buy, you want to ask yourself the following questions:
1. Where do I want to stay.
2. How long will my average stay be?
3. What type of accommodation (Studio, One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, Grand Villa) would I prefer?
4. How many vacations will I take each year?
5. What time of year will I plan to go?

Look through the point charts for the amount of points needed for unit, time of year, and length of stay(s). That will give you a good idea about the number of points you would want to purchase.

  • Buying resale. If you choose to purchase resale, decide where you want to be, how much you are willing to pay, and pounce when you see something you like. Resale inventory usually does not stay listed very long because DVC moves rather quickly.
  • Can I afford my purchase? When planning a purchase, make sure that you will be able to purchase outright or meet mortgage payments on it. You do not want to lose what you purchased. In figuring the affordability factor, make sure that you figure in your annual maintenance fees as well.
I hope this gives you some of the information you need to make a decision.

Have a Disney day!

Mike

We used points to book Disneyland Hotel for this trip. There is no fee that I am aware of. They never took a credit card.... :confused3

I used to be such an expert on DVC, but I just can't keep up these days. Your overview is good and hits on a lot of points I tell people as well. BTW, we are also BWV members since 1996. :thumbsup2

:confused3 Cruise Question:confused3

Anyone who is arriving early to CA for the cruise...

How are you getting from the hotel to the port?
&
From the Port to the airport?

We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel.
Thanks:goodvibes

LAX to DL Hotel: Private Car service - Silverado Coach (It's who my husband's company uses when they go to LA)

DL Hotel to Port: Pirate Bus pirate:

Port to MCO: FL Tours (Love them!)

Life boat drill is at 3:30 that is why I suggested before or after to meet. It really is in the middle of our plans so we thought 2:00 pm for those that arrive early and after fire drill. Maybe this will make it easier for the wristbands and the lanyards to be given out and collected.

I am on port side.:sad2: I am not uprising because I know I can visit someone on the other side.:rolleyes1 I was told by two different people who did go through The PC before that the only side is starboard. I am only believing what I was told.:headache: :headache:

We got our room assignment - think we are on starboard... You can visit us:woohoo:

UYR59 $3 off SuperShuttle - regular price is $10 per person for a shared van - $67 for a private van - you would book online and arrange a time for pick up

or

$3 off Disneyland Express
http://graylineanaheim.com/images_new/coupon_GrayLine_Shuttle_2007.gif
regular price is $15 per person - don't have to prebook, these run every 30 minutes
SUPERSHUTTLE must be diffferent prices from different airports and you were listing from some other one than LAX?
I went to use the cpn and it shows on there $16 per person.. not $10.

6632

I'm not terribly happy about it.

I had requested more mid-ship and port side of the ship.

Instead I'm very close to the back and on the starboard side.

Which means, more than likely, I get to watch a lot of water go by on my veranda instead of a lot of land as we sail south around Mexico.

Oh well . . . at least I finally know where I am going to be.

Now I can finalize my registration by filling in my room number.

I actually love that room! My favorites are 6634 or 6632.

Okay let me ask again.. since I typo'd originally. (sigh- i ask a question about our specific room and put the wrong room number!)

Is 6130 starboard or port side?

Still port but aft.

Tom, I know you had responded to a post from a week or so ago about Eagle Scouts. I'm currently trying to hire someone and have received 5 resumes this week from individuals with Eagle Scout on their resume!! Out of 10 resumes (they are filtered by HR first), 5 are Eagle scouts. Impressive.

WOW that is a lot of Eagle Scouts.. I am impressed.. BTW Geoff is an Eagle Scout too..

Thanks!

ughhhhhhhhh
I so thought we were starboard.
Okay well why do people keep talking about visiting someone that is starboard, pictures are taken on starboard side, etc?
Great- one time we get verandah and we get the wrong side. LOL

Good catch.

Actually, I need to modify that line to say that Disney charges a $95 transaction fee to use their non-DVC hotels at WDW. At this point in time, there is no transaction fee for DL. I used my points for my stay at the Grand Californian August 13-17 with no transaction points as well.

I'll amend my post.

Again, thanks!

Disneyland express shuttle from LAX to hojo sounds like atleast the best way to book transportation for DH, on his own, to arrive later than us on that Saturday.
HOWEVER, I noticed online that it says they only do this until 12:30am. Knowing how flights go sometimes- we have had flights supposed to arrive around 9:30pm to Florida and got delayed/etc. to the point that we arrived as late as 1am and getting to the resort even later than that.

So what happens if I book him disneyland express -in advance like it says you have to...... did anyone notice that? It says you have to book 48hrs in advance or no guarantee they can accomodate your request. so that means you can't just show up and buy a ticket with them?
ANYWAY, what happens if you buy it in advance and your flight gets in later than 12:30am? that might present quite a problem, especially for DH on his own, and lose the money spent on it?

Congratulations to everyone who has received an upgrade from Guarantee to an actual cabin number! One month to go for us and anyone else who is flying in the day before.

Todd asked about Orange County, so that's what I priced. LAX is farther away so the prices are higher.

Sorry, didn't read the fine print on the coupon.

Can we just slide pictures under your door as a form of confession??

I'm sure you already know the answer to that is NO.

Unless, perhaps, there is some money -- shall we call it an "offering?" -- attached! :rotfl2:
