Has anyone found some inexpensive magnet paper.. I have to try to make some for our doors but cant find any great deals on them.. ANy help is appreciated...

Found this site on one of the graphics threads

http://www.escapadedirect.com/mainpa.html

$1.00 per sheet, $5.95 shipping

I haven't ordered from them though. I still had sheets that I bought last year. I had found them at Kmart on clearance, don't remember the price though.

Re: Baggage - I don't think so on regular commercial flights....or they'd move passengers around too (which I have seen on some puddle jumpers - At Negril (Jamaica) they have a set of scales that passengers have to get on, but the planes sometime only hold 6 passengers).

I used to live by Heathrow airport (London), there were always baggage handlers in the local pubs - they commented that they haven't yet found a suitcase that can withstand being run over by a fork lift :rolleyes1
Andy

After last week DH is convinced that Heathrow is the worst International Airport in the world.....

For some reason I am starting to get panicky about the next 5 weeks.
Being on vacation a couple of weeks ago really showed me that my "back-ups" are just not "up-to-speed". I came back to a lot of issues I had to end up taking over. That means that I am going to have to work way more the next 5 weeks to get the particuraly needy clients taken care of so they can last w/ out me for 2 weeks. I normally work part-time so that is out for a while.
I had the idea last night of laying out the outfits for the girls and taking digital pictures of them. That way even though I cannot pack their clothes now, it will make it easier when I do pack. Print out a sheet of the outfits and put them in the suitcase.
My house/animal sitter called and said she will not be here on the day we leave. She is bringing over her friend that will take over for her that day but she was our ride to the airport so now that is gone. We are debating asking a neighbor (who has offered many, many times) or get a Super Shuttle.
I am still working on clothes and the cool door signs may be a "no-go". Also, I have no fish extender.
Is reality hitting anyone else about now? :scared:

Reality, panic, fear, nervousness, anxiety....you name it!

What Christopher said! LOL!

We're leaving a few minutes... I'm taking 10ds & 7dd bowling with some friends today. I am still only on page 51 so, I hope to catch up later tonight! LOL!

The bank stories reminded me of one my first TA told me about as she was visiting the next town over from me. She went into a major Bank branch she banked with and they had atms all over. Seems they had been robbed so many times, they were deposit only!!!! If you needed cash, that was what the atms were for!!!! I wonder if it has changed???? We were certainly laughing about that as she went across the street to Publix to cash a check.

some people are mentioning not having a FE:

I have an extra that I bought off EBay before I saw the ones made by gradysmom. I apologize that I don't have the know how to do a pic...but will describe it:

it is one of the wider preprinted ones that were on Ebay earlier. It is 14" across and 21" top to bottom. It is light blue with fishes and a beach theme. Top panel is Mickey and Minnie building a sand castle. Middle panel has three pockets with the middle one printed with the words "Mickey and Minnie" . Bottom panel has two pockets printed with pics of Mickey and Minnie swimming. It is a canvas or coated cotton material with backing that makes it pretty durable. It has a PVC dowel and a yellow cord.

You could spruce it up with sparkly fabric paint (as I kinda planned). I think kids would love it - DD is kinda sad to see it go!!!

First person to PM me - I would be happy to mail it out or give it to you once on-board!!!!!

ETA: FE has been claimed!:)

You will need to create an ID on the Pirate Zone, or you could have her post under your ID. It will ask for an email when you sign her up, but I think you could just put your own email.

Thank you for replying. It is very helpful

I can't sleep.
Tomorrow is going to be a long day.
The investigators will finally be done (we think) with my friend's house and we're going to go in salvage what we can. From what we've heard, it's an ugly scene...but we want to remove any "icky" trace of the victim before her family goes in.
I am so not looking forward to this at all. Duh...another idiot remark. Who would be?
DD Jordan wants to go because she's thought of a career in forensics. This might be just what she needs to see to decide. I'm told the family pets are still in the house.

Wow...that is tough! All the best to you guys.

Sorry, haven't been around for awhile. I am trying to ketchup...impossible...

Anyway, it is me! My DD will be turning 11 on Aug. 19th! I hope we make it into Cabo... :)

Yay...I should have remembered you with your "pooh" name! Thanks for the reminder!

BIP ....

I used to be nominally active with The Make A Wish charitable group ..... for those unfamiliar with MAW... we serve youngsters (under 18) who are certified as terminally ill ... and we seek these unfortunate kids out to enquire as to if they have any "Wishes" they were dreaming about doing someday. And since their days appear numbered - our group comes in to ENABLE that very Dream! And in the majority of cases these kids are just asking for a visit to Disneyland or WDW. Something many of us have been blessed with enjoying.

[/CENTER]

My DS15 received a wish thru MAW just a few years ago. They are a wonderful and special organization...thank you for working with them!!

Excellent job! Thanks for sharing. I would love to make one, but have NO idea how to even start. I'm a bit computer creativity challenged...LOL

Someone has posted something like these ages ago (Crash maybe?)

OK, I'm a dork! My first thought when I looked at this was "wow, another amazing cake picture...and that one looks just like a real shoe!!" DOH!

Calling all northern CA folks. We've decided on a mini-meet for July 19.

Johanna (renegade7) has graciously offered to allow us to invade her abode.

We're just thinking of a low key event. Grab some lunch at a cafe right across the street from her. Then we can hang out and chat at her place.

If anyone has another suggestion, let us know, but we don't have a lot of time to plan.

The gathering will start at 11:30am at the Flower Market Cafe.

Sign up on the Pirate Zone to let us know if you'll be able to make it. I'll PM everyone with further details.

It has now been confirmed that I am a total idiot. Yeah, okay, some of you knew that.

I tried for the first time ever to go into chat. First off, it isn't Friday night....:sad2:
Second.....I couldn't figure out how to write anything. No, I take that back...I typed into the little box....but there wasn't anywhere to hit "reply" or "post" or anything.

SO if anyone was in there and saw me....I swear I wasn't being rude....I am just too challenged. Yeah, that's a good word. Better than stupid. Challenged.
:sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Stace we all knew you were having computer problems again. No worries! :goodvibes

I can't sleep.

That's really awful! I'm so sorry!

So - here I am at the Embassy Suites SLO (San Luis Obispo)... we just attended the Farmers' Market in downtown SLO (a thursday ritual up here) - then the usual drill up til now (book store, dinner and a swim) - with the kids slipping away into slumber while I finally get around to web wandering here.

We're gonna host an Ice Cream Social and Swim Party this Saturday - I'll PM ya incase you have time on Saturday between 12 and 3ish. We wrap at 4PM. I kno you're working on some weekends - and ya might have plans to visit yer parents too - especially with these adverse developements... but just in case yer available ... the welcome mat is out for all DIS neighbors on our cruise who consider Westlake Village to be within driving range this saturday. Just PM me fer directions and my tel number so I can buzz you in past security.

So... aside from all that - here are a few pix from this evening at Farmers' market - and dinner :

I took out a few, but just wanted to say...great pictures as usual Crash!

Nowadays I get pretty extreme with meat preparation - the real problem if stuff is cooked propertly is contamination after the fact.

So basically as soon as the meat is put on the grill, every utensil and plate that I use before the food is cooked gets thrown into the dishwasher, packaging is tossed and the surface area cleaned, and I wash my hands, etc. If I use a spatula to turn the burgers, I'll clean them (or if BBQ hold it over the hottest part of the heat) after the first turning to make sure it's cleaned from the previous contact with raw meat.

I'm even more careful with chicken (salmonella can be just as unpleasant as E.Coli).

It does make for extra dishes and trash, but I think it makes a difference.

My DH always throws the burger plate in the dishwasher & he washes the spatula before using it again. It freaks him out when we are over other people's house & they don't! :scared:

I find it really odd too that when I watch other people's children or my DS has friends over that they NEVER wash their hands after using the bathroom. The other day I had a little girl here (9) & she had a belly ache. When she finished in the bathroom I said, "Did you wash your hands?" And she replied, "Oh I always forget to do that!"

Sorry to be so .... serious. I am just in a pensive mood I guess. Alicia's girlfriend with the Cancer is sort of having a tough battle. They gamma knifed another growth in her head a week or so ago and already they're talking about needing to schedule more because they've found more growths developing. That $8000 per month medication is not helping as much as we all had hoped. Even so - the odds for it to have worked a miricale was ... slim. I feel so - bummed when I think about it - they have one young son and a world of unimaginable complication. KWIM? Add to that - there are others close to us battling for a decent survival against thier chronic illnesses. It's all enough to get one down a bit sometimes.

Crash I'm so sorry. I know it's not easy to see a loved one so ill!

Anyways.... I am "UP" in that we are about to switch our booking from that bargain MSC "kids sail free" cruise next february to a January NCL Star cruise. We've got 5 cabins worth of family and friends in my group -and looking for 3 more to achieve a "group". I have a number of MY family going so it is a sort of nice thing. Plus, we got an email from a "FAVORITE COUSIN" of Alicia's tonite indicating she wants to FINALLY sail Disney with us in 2009 or 2010. So now - we have to start comparing calandars to plan it! Oh boy!!!! This particular cousin is the MOST BUBBLY and HAPPY "family" member I know of. She's LOUD - Soooo FUNNY - and so totally "Down to Earth".... we are very comfortable with "hangin'" with her! It pleases me to NO END to think that we'll share another vacation with her family! Here she is at the far right on an Alaskan cruise we took some 4-5 years ago. That's a 2.5 year old Julianna in my arms there. 2-3 weeks after this cruise we took our 1st Disney cruise on a last minute semi-discounted deal!

I would love to hear how MSC was, but if you end up doing NCL...we love freestyle! You are lucky to have so many family members willing to travel with you. To get my family together takes years of planning!

Good Morning pirate: s. Wish me luck today.

Good luck!!! :wizard:

We purchased some DVC points and one of our perks was to stay at what is called the Mickey Penthouse at the DLH...they do not rent it out..it is given away during the year of a million dreams etc...so we have our night there this Sat. Had some issues confirming it and now are all set!

Wow that is so cool! :cool1:

:yay: :yay: I accomplished stuff tonight...went to Walmart and bought all the clothes we still needed for the trip as well as new water shoes that fit for DD.

I started separating the lanyards - got about 1/2 done and then quit as I had a meeting...came home and DH had separated all the rest of the lanyards into their seperate envelopes and labeled each with the name, cabin number (or gty) and the number of lanyards inside! :woohoo:

I feel accomplished! :cheer2:

You are very organized! Thanks for doing all that hard work!

Reposting some items I posted last night

I know we have a kids thread here on DIS, but since some of us have been unsuccessful at getting our kids IDs or others didn't want their kids posting on such a public forum, we now have an area on the Pirate Zone for the kids. (((THANKS TOM)))

I have started a thread for the under 10 and another for the 11 and over crowds. That doesn't mean that someone in one group can't post on the other thread. I just thought it might be easier for the younger set to keep up with others closer to their age. I started the thread asking a few questions and figure the kids can take it from there.

Kids 11 and over Tell us about yourself
http://www.thepiratezone.us/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=264

We are up to 61 kids signed up for the Kid's Meet.

I'm going to set a final date of 7/14. After that sign ups will be closed. I don't want to leave any kids out, but we've got to cut it off at some point so we can plan how many postcards we need to get.

Please go to the Sign Up thread on the Pirate Zone if you want your kids to participate. I will be formalizing the guidelines for the event later tonight. Will post when they are complete.

I've posted the details on the Kids Postcard Exchange on the Pirate Zone. Its in the Kids Even thread, not the Sign Up thread.

Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

Also make copies of your passport and leave some home so if you lose it they can fax it to you.

DH's secretary has copies of all of our passports just that reason! ;)

Is reality hitting anyone else about now? :scared:

I keep having nightmares every night so I'd say yes I'm getting a bit nervous. Last night I had a dream that I kept missing going to the adult bars & instead we kept going to some interactive mystery show....which I hate & wouldn't do anyway!

As for clothes...I grab a bunch of shorts & shirts each & I think, "Hmmm that's about 7 outfits, that should hold everyone till I do laundry!" No wonder I'm stressed!

Great idea with the outfit photos!

Reminds me of making the kids build a "hockey boy" on the floor before we leave for a tournament. They have to lay all their gear out just like they put it on to make sure they have everything. :rotfl2: Come to think of it, I've seen DH build an "officer boy" on the bed when he is taking his uniform somewhere instead of wearing it.

Mike does that when he's switching uniforms. Got to have all his pins, badges, gun, etc. in the right place. ;)

Door signs. I wasn't planning on doing many. Not sure I'll get to any of them since I am spending computer time working on the kids cruise journals and the pirate navigator.

I might do a couple of the ones from the Pirate site because I am just NOT that creative!

Truthfully, most of the preparation is fun for me. Like this thread, and my obsessive planning, it extends the vacation. But I am seriously stressed about having the kids ready for school before we leave on vacation. Our plane lands 7 hours before the first day of school!

It's more like 12 hours for my kids, but I do have to have everything ready for school too! :headache:

Here is a picture of the banner Caro & I DISigned for the day of the PC crossing:
EBPCCrossingBannersm.jpg

Very cool! :cool1:

I have a spreadsheep too, but it is just the things we need to take. I need to get down to the nitty gritty...how many of what for which day and what still fits and what goes with what. And I have to finish my FE gifts too. And...

I only have a spreadsheep for what we have planned each day with reservation numbers, dining times, etc. prescruise, during & after. But maybe I should have more! :scared:

That reminds me. We also have our family reunion between now and the TOAL and we are host family. I have done pathetically little. We have the reunions every summer-just a different location. I think people are going to be pleased it will be another 3 years before we have it in Dallas again. :rotfl2:

Wow that's a lot of added stress! :headache:

:scratchin Note to self:
Last night onboard find anyone of the following people:
Mike for his scale
M's DH for his lifting skills
Kristina to bench press my bag.

Y'all are just so damg helpful! :)

:lmao:

So went and got remeasure for my wedding dress...now the order is official placed (though the dress is already paid for!)

Woohoo that's exciting!

My "consultant" who I have seen (including today) 2 times of the 6 I have been there..informed me tomorrow was her last day...at least the Manager of the salon will be taking me as a client...

I have had a headache for the past week..don't know if its the heat, sinuses or my wisdom teeth...I really dislikes headaches....

Sorry to hear that. I've had a plugged ear for over a week that now plugs & unplugs. I can feel that I'm congested up in my head, but taking a decongestant hasn't helped with the ear. I haven't been to the doctor because it seems to be getting better since it's unplugged most of the day now and there's no pain, but very annoying.

I want to thank everyone for all the work you are doing- organizing, planning, running, or just being friendly...whether we are involved in your activity or not thank you....Cyber meeting all of you (and some in person) I feel is going to make this trip so much better, It will be like having a 15 day party with extended family! So thankyou!

Chrissie

Same here!!! :grouphug:

I've created a thread over on the Pirate Zone in the Pirate Q&A section. If you will be bringing a travel scale and are willing to share with the other pirates, please post your cabin number over there. This list will be provided to the Pirate Printer.

After last week DH is convinced that Heathrow is the worst International Airport in the world.....

I Sooo Totally Agree

It was horrible last year when we had to come home from London
Next time I go to London I will make the treck to Gatwick instead, Heathrow is not worth the hassles

Sorry this will be my last multi-quote for today!!!

YUP!

Hmmm, now that I think about it, I don't think I ever dated a guy who couldn't bench press me.

Hmmmmm & I read this post as pure innocense! Silly me!

Well I'm still going to respond and say that I always dated men much bigger than me, which at 5' 2" & under 120 when I was in my late teens early twenties, wasn't too difficult, but now that I've put on a "few" pounds....well you've seen DH, he's a really big guy! ;)

I remember when I was a kid eating raw hamburg all the time......and my parents let me :scared1: :scared1:

:scared:

Awww, Chrissie - I think your a pretty cool cucumber too :goodvibes .

I got my dress at a bargain outlet for $100 (for anyone around here that remember Arthur's). The bride's maid were from a bridal store and I had so many headaches with them, the store, not the BM's.

Hope you feel better.

I had a friend make my gown & I regret it now. I mean it came out okay with a lot of pearls sewn into the bodice, but the ruffles never fell right & I decided to go simple & not have a train & now I wish I did. I keep trying to convince DH to marry me again, but no luck so far!

When I can't think of my kids names (that's just sad) I call them Fred and George.......

Of course they know they are in trouble when I call them by the dog's name!

OMG I always call the dog my DS's name! And she's a girl named Rosie so I don't know why I do that?

Think any show could be called "and wife" in today's PC climate?

Ah NO! ;)

My mom still does this! :scared1: But when I see it out I put it in the fridge!

Chrissie

My MIL always left her butter out to keep it soft. It was NEVER put in the fridge. Don't know how safe that was!

Funny, my GM still does this...my cousins are Jason, Jared, Jennie and Justin and my brother Jeff and my uncle Jerry.....picnics were fun to watch...she would be stammering thru ...Jas, ah, Jared, umm...Jen, Jeff, Justin....ah...JERRY! popcorn::

With 9 of us, my DM could NEVER get our names right!

Talking about packing....
I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get the girls all unpacked from camp on Friday afternoon, wash stuff and repack them to leave bright and early Sunday morning. :scared1: I'm hoping they can use different suitcases for camp, so I can start packing some stuff ahead of time.

Oy more stress! I can't imagine having to pack up this family twice in one month! :headache:

My family too! I wake up at 2-3 am and take the food out for the next days dinner. I figure its cooler in the night time than the day time. But I do clean counters vigerously.. And yes I still eat cake batter with eggs in them. I know, I know....

I will look on Ebay for papers. thanks for the info...

That is one thing I still do too! DH always yells at me for eating the cake batter, but I just love it! So far so good! :rolleyes1

Thanks but I need it on the first leg of the trip.We may have to take it to UPS to get it weighed

I remember Arthur's ... I was convinced that I could find my wedding dress for $99 (also pondered "renting" it because I couldn't rationalize spending crazy amounts of money for a dress that I'd only wear for a couple of hours and then hang in my closet ... course that was before I actually got engaged ;) ) I wasn't actually able to find anything there. BUT, I ended up getting my gown from a place in Natick for only $299 :cheer2:

Bathroom scales work pretty well too for getting a general idea of what the luggage weighs. We always weigh our bags before we go anywhere. My DH2B ALWAYS goes over the weight limit, but when he's traveling for work and they are picking up the tab, it's not a big deal. For this trip, we'll be distributing the weight! GL packing light.

Ok, I'm back and have a shiny new iPhone 3G :cool1:

I arrived at the local AT&T store around 6:45am (they opened @ 8am today) and was the 21st person in line. The 75 min wait was cold as the fog was down to the ground.

At 8am they started taking customers in 5 at a time. You were only allowed to buy one phone per person.

After the 10th person went in, the manager came out and said they only had 21 phones left. By the time they got to me, they were down to 1 black 16G, 2 white 16Gs and seven 8G's. I lucked out and took the remaining black 16G.

I went in, paid me $$ and was out of the store by 9:30.

Andy

PS Where's Todd? pirate:

I can't remember what I paid for my dress, but I remember my goal was to spend less than $1,000 on everything I was wearing - gown, veil, shoes, magical underwear, make-up, etc. I'm the only girl & married young - that was the only part of the wedding that we paid for. I'm spoiled, I'll admit it. princess:

Funny thing - we were living in Kodiak, Alaska at the time (no internet, no bridal shops) so I flew home to Ohio to shop for a dress. I found one (in 2 hours or less!) and left it at my parents house since we were getting married in Ohio. By the time the wedding rolled around, I couldn't remember what my dress looked like!!! I remember 10 days before our wedding, standing in front of the closet in my old bedroom with my hand on the doorknob, praying that when I opened the closet I would still like the dress!!

Just wanted to check in and say HOWDY to YA"LL . .looking forward to chatting tonight. Time if flying!! Can't wait to get there!
