Just to confirm been to the hospital and its NOT DVT, but a ligament strain around the Calf muscle. So thats good news no injections to worry about,

I saw this quoted at the top of the page...

Andrew, that's outstanding news. DVT can be a pain in the butt.

I am sorry that you are needing to close your business. DH is in the craft industry. I'm sure you have a lot of mixed emotions about the decision.

It has been a hard decision Stephanie. I was going to try to take it through the end of the year, but with the two shows being as bad as they were, I just couldn't carry it through the summer, which is my slow time. I even got ripped off with a credit card at one of the shows, which was like adding insult to injury. But good news on that, I got a call from the police in NJ and they caught the woman and she is supposed to make good with certified funds by the 1st of the month. She ripped 4 vendors off at the show for over $800 with a bad cc.

I am ok with it, I gave it my best shot for 3 years. The scrapbook industry is always coming out with new products and if you can't keep up with it, you can't stay in business.

So I keep on thinking of this trip, getting closer and closer each day, and that's what keeps me going!

Thanks for your thoughts!

Lisa,
WOW! Our last Disney cruise was the Mexican Riviera in 2005 and I did a 40 page book from that. I actually bought one of the books on the ship, and it wound up falling apart, unfortunately they do not sell extra page protectors or extender posts. So now I need to find another book for it. I can't even imagine how many pictures we will take on this TOAL, it will probably have to go in 2 books (at least) :rotfl2: There is a lot of good pirate stuff out now. I think I have some pirate paper in the store, which I will pull and share with all of the scrappers.
Debi

Sorry that you are having to close down your business. I know that it can add up since I have been working on our 12/06 cruise scrapping the past couple months. I have 116 pages so far and probably have another 25 - 30 to go just for the cruise portion. We stayed in WDW with friends a few days prior and had a big DIS meet Friday night. I have three scrapbooks for it already but will probably have to get a fourth. Each day is in a 12x12 file folder since I don't always work in order and don't like to rip the page protectors taking the pages in and out while I go through and do each stage. I still need to add some embellishments to most of the pages along with titles and I haven't started the journaling for it yet but all the pictures are matted and in place so far. My goal is to have it completely finished before the TOAL. :) I have been buying paper and embellishments for the TOAL books and putting it away too.

Just wanted to send you a  . I am making some changes now too. Sometimes you just know when it has to be done...

One had to question what was going on at the family who seemed to not care enough to attend - or to get thier child to practices regularly.

Gee both parents could be hmmm working perhaps... some parents do have to work 2nd shift or rotating shifts and have weekend work.. or have to handle two jobs to make ends meet...

Trust me... I would have loved a 1st shift job when i lived in PA those last two years but the part-time retail carp jobs didn't cut it...

I was stuck working 2nd shift so DH had to take DD to dance and to Girl Scouts and to Soccer. Did i look like an errant parent? Probably, but so what? People who might have thunk that weren't paying our bills.

And when my DH had to travel for work..which was often that year...Our babysitter took DD to practice or she didn't go at all.. (of course she didn't miss many since i send her if i'm paying for it)

There were also years (like the first year we moved here to MD) where DD couldn't be in any after-school activities because neither DH or I got home before 7pm. She did do GS's though since they started at 7. Here in the DC area it's pretty typical for parents not to get home till late because of traffic and or commuter delays.

Pirating pirate: for a happy birthday to everyone the last few days... :yay:

i'm not much at measuring and/or sewing; but i do it "close enough" to make it work.

Hey it looks good to me :thumbsup2

Our studio spreads the recitals out over several nights. ANd some years I've had to be there everynight but, it was never more then an hour & a half at a time!

i wish..... Back in the days when i took dance myself as a child, our teacher had been a broadway dancer and everything was very tasteful and very musical...(Heck we even had a live orchestra to play for the two shows they held.) One was a Friday night and the other was Saturday afternoon (So more parents could come.) It was a long show but wasn't too bad. (We never had all the solos back then...All group #'s)

DD had those long drawn out 4-5 hour shows... The worst was if they had their #'s split with one at beginning and one after intermission and then she would need to come back for finale.

but it's a step up from the old days when all I did was buy a sheet cake from the store! hehe

Hey I resemble that..... This year...DD's b-day was during the week so she asked if she could get a cookie cake to take to school for lunch. I asked the school secretaries and they told me they have a no cake policy but "wink, wink" if i dropped her "lunch" off in a bag, they are not allowed to look inside.

The kids loved the cake and it was way easier on me to just order it....

The costume really didn't show a lot of skin at all. It was a neon pink body suit, with a black pleather mini-skirt and a black mesh, camoflage, cut-off tank top . Oh yeah, there were also black mesh camo wristbands and some funky hair. It just looked like she should be standing on a street corner somewhere.

That does seem pretty typical Hip-hop for dance...

Brendan and I are on the Pirate Boat in Aruba!!!!

Cool, I call actual Diver on my boat....

BTW, DH took his first swimming lesson tonight and had fun and said he thought it went well.... Aruba here he comes....:rolleyes1

Well i may have to log off... Bad Thunderstorm here in MD...

Can someone throw a rock at me if something important comes up?

Don't tempt me dear.... I will have an unfortunate trip up there pretty soon.

My DGM is nearing the end of her life. They gave her last rites on Saturday but the staff at the nursing home told my dsis it's just a matter or time. She is in her late 80's and unfortunately has had pretty bad alzheimers for the past 10 yrs. She doesn't know who she is and didn't know who my grandfather even was the last few years of his life either.... She was always so nice to my Dsis and i as kids so it has hurt me to not have her know who we are or who her Great grandkids are. :worried: She'll be a better place though at least.

Debi, is your store near the ferry or on the bus line?

hmmmm. I tried to quote Andrew's "injection" comment and it seem's that it isn't allowed! :confused3 ;)

Usually if a posts starts with "I hope I don't get in trouble for this one..." and you have to **** out words or letters, it is better not to post it. Rule of thumb ... would you say it in front of your kids. The DIS is meant to be a family forum so you never know when a registered youngster might happen along a post.

Goodness! I am really glad that the studio we are at doesn't dress the kids like that. The hip hop dance costume is below. It's not a great picture because they never stopped moving but you can see that it is not at all like what you guys have described. The song was Bet on It from HSM.

Hi Gang,

I'm back up in NoCal - it was a very long and hot drive and I'm still tired.

I LOVE the kids dance pictures posted - really beautiful!!

I've got to get caught up on lots of stuff here - plus get ready for the cruise next Sun. Still need to shop for both DGS Jack & myself!! So - I won't have much time to pop in here.

Hi and Bye for now!!

Thanks Stephanie. This year she was in 2 dances and of course the had one in the first half and the other in the second half :( Last year she was only in one and we picked her up at intermission. I can even remember when my oldest was dancing that she was only in the second act so DW and I went out to dinner during the first half and showed up just for the second half. Don't tell DD that we did not sit patiently through 40 some odd acts waiting to see her. :lmao:

LOL! OK. Now I know you're my kind of dad! LOL!

Have you seen the new double sided pirate papers? I really like the new skull and cross bone brads. Of course the matching stickers are great too! :) LOL! Don't get me started. I can't walk out of our local store with just one thing. They are always getting new stuff in and if I don't get it when I see it, it may not be there when I go back.

Sorry to hear this Kristina. We went through the same thing with my grandmother, who passed away at 92 last December. We'll keep your grandmother and your family in our prayers.

I hope she does make good on the funds!

You're right about the products! I remember a few years back the craft division thought they would get into the scrapbook business.....I told dh that I didn't think it was a good idea..... They had a bunch of product samples made up.... And now I have alot of them! :rotfl: :rotfl:

At any rate, we sort of felt this was a difficult position to find ourselves in. One had to question what was going on at the family who seemed to not care enough to attend - or to get thier child to practices regularly. It was sort of unfair to the team - and that seems to have SOME similarities to the dance situation...

I agree that if there is an illness or emergency or major conflict time wise then it is not the child's fault. In this case the mom talked to another mom in the class outside of the studio and told her that she was not going to let her child participate in dance because she was not maintaining good grades in school. I understand her decision with that as a parent but IMO if you do that then she doesn't participate any more from that point on. You don't pull her from the program and then have her show up to the recital unprepared if no dance was her punishment. What lesson was learned by the kid? Here she was "punished" but was able to participate in an event that was a big deal to the other members of the class who had worked very hard and attended class as expected to learn the dance and were prepared. If it wasn't a beginner class and had been more uptempo it is possible that someone besides this noshow who could have gotten injured during the performance because she was not where she needed to be. At this age especially, the reward of going to class every week and practicing is the recital. So in esence she got the reward without doing any of the work. Not the lesson I want my kids to learn, which is why I talked about it with both of them about how it affected the class and DD and why I tell them that they make a commitment to the team and will not disappoint the other members or the instructor/coach by not doing their part.
