Have been working a p/t job for a lawyer since March, and will be closing my scrapbook store before we leave for our trip. It has been a rough ride, and with the economy so bad, hobbies get put to the back shelf. I understand that, we are all having a hard enough time just putting food on our table and gas in our car! I did 2 shows this year which I also did last year, and I didn't do half as well at them, so it was time to make a decision and pack it in. I am ok with the decision, and trying to get it all done before our trip so I can go away with a clear head and enjoy.

I am sorry that you are needing to close your business. DH is in the craft industry. I'm sure you have a lot of mixed emotions about the decision.

Too freaky! What a great HM! Too bad it wasn't a Madonna -- could have sold your stovetop on ebay to cover the cost of your cruise!
that cracks me up!!:rotfl2: :lmao:

When we aren't allowed to take pics I take them without a flash.....

The dance school we use the girls (and boys -- but, it's usually girl costumes that are raunchy!) are always covered. One year my oldest dd's costume (she was 15 or 16) showed part of her stomach (when the costumes were ordered they were told the top touched the bottoms) so the dance teacher added the scarf (that came with the costume & they weren't using) to hers so you couldn't see her belly. :thumbsup2 From the audience it looked just like all the other girls costumes. My dd is long waisted, all the other girls tops touched the top of the bottoms.

Most of the costumes are one piece though.

I see many perfomances from other studios (my kids have done alot of group performances over the years) and I am always amazed (saddened) the way the girls dance -- provocative music and dance. And the parents are usually busy clapping and cheering for them! My 17dd was very upset this past October after watching a group of 8 & 9 yr olds dancing and shaking their rears.... She turned and asked me *How can those moms & dads be happy that their girls are dancing that way?*

BTW -- our school is not a *religious* school...in fact I think the Artistic Director and founder is probably an atheist or some type of Pagan! She just believes in good, solid dance instruction (all of the teachers have Dance degrees from 4 yr Universities, most of them from TCU) and modesty in dress and dance.

we took our pics without the flash during the recital too. unfortunately, not many of them turned out!
on the costumes....our studio is really good about tasteful outfits and routines too. dd went to a competition a few months ago, and a bunch of us stared in disbelief when this one 7-8 yr old group got out there and did what they did! they looked like little pole dancers...even dd knew it didn't look right! my dd's costume did show her belly however, but the teacher was leery about it. she was going to make her wear a nude colored leotard under her costume, and the dance wasn't seductive like a lot of the kids dances nowadays are.

hmmmm. I tried to quote Andrew's "injection" comment and it seem's that it isn't allowed! :confused3 ;)

That sounds like a classier place. I think we'll be looking for a new dance school. If nothing else, I think we'll switch her over to jazz instead of hip-hop. The older groups' hip-hop dances were definitely something I don't want Hailey doing. And you're right, there was a lot of hooting and hollering going on. The other styles of dance weren't bad. In fact, there was a ballet done to the music from POTC (Black Pearl Remix) that was actually really well done.

The costume really didn't show a lot of skin at all. It was a neon pink body suit, with a black pleather mini-skirt and a black mesh, camoflage, cut-off tank top . Oh yeah, there were also black mesh camo wristbands and some funky hair. It just looked like she should be standing on a street corner somewhere.

On the plus side, the hair may make another appearance on Princess night. With the right dress and a tiara, it will probably look good.

There are a couple schools that we've heard good things about, though, so we'll be checking those out.

Hi everyone. I have been MIA for a little while.... just busy with my boys and my nephew. He'll be staying with us most of the summer. I am feeling way out numbered. 5 males in the house and me.

Penny

Can you imagine how my DMIL felt...I married the baby of 5 boys!!!

Or the manmiddle as the case may be.

EXACTLY.

Okay...you've made me feel a tiny tiny tiny bit better about trying this :)

I'm thinking about maybe booking the premium seating for the electrical parade (as my moms b-day present --however, the electrical parade is my favorite parade every...so I have an alteriour motive shhhhh! :) ) Is anyone else doing that or for fantasmic?

I haven't done the electrical parade preferred seating, but have done the fantasmic one . . . the dessert box is very nice and I believe is about the same for both. I love the electrical parade, too, but what has kept me from doing the dessert there is that it is always so easy to snag a spot to see it right along the route very close to time, especially near the beginning of the parade. With fantasmic it always gets so full so early that the preferred seating is a real plus. But if you are just thinking of the luxurious experience and the dessert box, then it would be worth it if you really love the electrical parade.

 Why do parents allow this??? I will never understand.

The sad thing is that most of the parents don't mind if their dd's look like this... :worried:

Oldest dd danced Jazz & Tap (hated Ballet, thinks it's too quiet and slow), Middle dd danced Ballet (hated tap, thought it was too loud) and youngest dd dances Ballet/Tap (but, only because at her age they didn't offer seperate classes...she hates ballet, thinks it's too quiet.)

Me again, and totally off-topic. But....I actually cooked dinner last night....and I just want to tell you all how spoiled we are going to be.
But anyway....potatoes boiled over, and left spots on the stove.
As I was getting ready to clean it....this is what I saw....no touch-ups...no kidding:

Sorry that you are having to close down your business. I know that it can add up since I have been working on our 12/06 cruise scrapping the past couple months. I have 116 pages so far and probably have another 25 - 30 to go just for the cruise portion. We stayed in WDW with friends a few days prior and had a big DIS meet Friday night. I have three scrapbooks for it already but will probably have to get a fourth. Each day is in a 12x12 file folder since I don't always work in order and don't like to rip the page protectors taking the pages in and out while I go through and do each stage. I still need to add some embellishments to most of the pages along with titles and I haven't started the journaling for it yet but all the pictures are matted and in place so far. My goal is to have it completely finished before the TOAL. :) I have been buying paper and embellishments for the TOAL books and putting it away too.

She's a cutie! ANd I so agree with you about how they all start looking alike! You are a much better dad then I am a mom because I wouldn't have stayed anywhere for 4 1/2 hrs! LOL!
And I've sat through 20 yrs of dance recitals. :) All 3 of my girls have taken years of dance. 17dd took ballet for 10yrs and was rather good but, had to stop almost 2 yrs ago because of her scoliosis. It was starting to become too painful and interferring with the quality of her life.
Our studio spreads the recitals out over several nights. And some years I've had to be there every night but, it was never more then an hour & a half at a time!

Thanks Stephanie. This year she was in 2 dances and of course the had one in the first half and the other in the second half :( Last year she was only in one and we picked her up at intermission. I can even remember when my oldest was dancing that she was only in the second act so DW and I went out to dinner during the first half and showed up just for the second half. Don't tell DD that we did not sit patiently through 40 some odd acts waiting to see her. :lmao:

Hi everyone!

Just checking in..spent the day in Seatle sightseeing...off tomorrow to a stop at Mt. St. Helens and then end up in Tillamook, Oregon for the cheese factory. Having a lot of fun but it's one of those busy everyday trips. Hope everyone had a great weekend..will check back in when I get home..tried a little ketchup...never enough time.

So...I thought parasailing was sold out on CC....however, I just looked and at least 1 spot was still open...So I booked it :cool1: ! And am hoping not to regret it because I'm afraid of heights ... ;)

I am not crazy about heights either, but I did it with my DD and we had an excellent time. You will love it. It is very smooth up and down.:cool1:

Ok...I did decide I had to make my FE myself......for good or for bad....I wanted something original I could use as something special. I'm posting a couple pics here so if anyone else is interested in how to make one let me know. I would never go so far as to say it's as nice as all the others, but in the end I made it special for this TOAL and if you are feelin' that same urge it took me less than a day to sew together after having the fabric and images and spending little time designing it. The sewing was not a big deal.

Nice job! Very original and I think it looks cool!

so, as we get closer to the TOAL, I have less time to DIS. Boo !! No more 0'dark-thirty ketchup for me.

We're leaving the house at 6:45 instead of 8:00 now that school is over. But, on the plus side, I can get to the gym after work & still be home relatively early.

Can someone throw a rock at me if something important comes up?
