75 direct point add on, would you do it? Where? Any advice?

NO, I've never understood buying smaller contracts but I guess now, even small direct from Disney contracts amount to a huge chunk of change. The best bang for my points are for the DVC resorts. I paid cash for the cruise, and as for the loss of perks, well most I get back wiht a Florida Resident AP & the TIW card, RCI etc. I don't care about.

At this point, I’m still quite dismissive of 2042 concerns. That’s still 24 years and the time value of money screams at me that 2 plus decades of being where I want to be is worth more than financial decisions 25 years from now.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll still WANT to be a member then. But if you do, they’ll be plenty of options then (or to the extent there isn’t because ...25 years... then a longer option now isn’t of any more use, either.)

My take is that having full benefits does have emotional value. We DO take advantage of AP benefits. We have taken advantage of moonlight magic events and think they’re awesome. I’m not that big a fan of the Epcot member lounge because it always closes 10 minutes before we get there, but hey, it’s there I guess.

If I didn’t have “perks”, I would want them.

In your case though, the biggest pop in more points would be the ability to add to your current points to book larger accommodations at 11 months.

If I were you, I’d consider qualifying points. And I’d consider doing so in same UY at BRV in order to stay in one membership and take full advantage of 11 month booking window down the road for larger stays.

I dismiss the emotional concern of the RTU ending date but I do feel it has some play in the valuation. The fact is though that the years at the end are worth less today than the ones closer. One can always buy more later if that changes or as the time draws closer.

I would agree on the emotional front and I did on the financial front to have options at 25 points but not at 75 points unless what one was buying wouldn't be a lot cheaper resale and it made sense on the other qualifying points (pay cash, use for that location, etc). But I don't think one should buy because of emotions, one needs to get past that as much as possible to make good and rational decisions.

If one is going to buy retail and resale, I'd almost always buy the resale first, much easier and simpler to do so. Any price increases will be small compared to the aggravation and cost trying to find the perfect resale to match what one owns already.

I almost let the 2042 dilemma talk me out of buying BCV for $84/point in 2014. In retrospect, pulling the trigger on a 2042 resort was a great decision.

When I added on, I did so at Poly. One of the reasons - but certainly not the main reason - for adding there was to leverage the 2042 dilemma. IF I still want to go in 2043, I’ll have Poly points at my disposal until I’m 98.

Sigh... we were considering DVC as early as 2015, and didn't buy until 2017. Had we bought in 2015 ALL our points would have been grandfathered. But then again, I am also relieved that we bought at 25-pts grandfathered.

I also don't really care about the 2042 end date as it was worth it to ME to have BWV as home resort. However, I bought at BWV direct (small contract) because it was our desire to stay there in the next few years. We will very likely buy another home resort (BLT?) at some point. I wish I'd been able to do it the opposite of how I did....BLT direct first and BWV later via resale. However, it would have altered our immediate vacation plans. Obviously, at the time, I had no idea the 25 point add on option would go away in a flash.

So, sometimes decisions aren't easy and hindsight is 20/20. I am happy to have direct benefits until 2042 but would have liked to know I'd have them for longer. I do value the direct benefits as they stand now and I got a good chunk of the price difference (resale vs direct) back as soon as I bought our APs and already took advantage of a moonlight event.

I know I will be tempted to buy direct again, but wish I didn't have to ever even think about it.

Did you say the first part backwards? BLT expires in 2060, so that's how long you'd have direct benefits...

That's was how I WISH I could have done it. I have BWV direct.

I did it. Picked OKW. Love the resort. If going by cost OKW or SS are the cheapest 2
Congrats OKW is a nice resort. We were just there for 5 nights. Had a nice dinner at Olivia’s. Those studios rooms are nice and big. Unfortunately we stayed in a old room, would have liked to see a refurbished one.

Congrats Mother of 5!!! Welcome Home. We travel home in one week and next Friday night I will be dining at Jiko....makes going to work today while DH is retired and still in bed...worthwhile. Luxury has its cost and working in to your 50s has to have some perks....DVC is an awesome perk and luxury...just paid it off a couple of months ago. Had a direct purchase...and I still learn when I read everyone's posts here. As I work full time for who knows how long to afford our ins. premiums, a reward may be purchasing another 50-100 points resale. Life is hard and you can't help but love a first world problem thread. Enjoy life DVCers!!

I've gone as a guest to OKW but I just purchased in Feb. Can't wait to go again and this time when they say Welcome Home (it truly will be my home) Makes me smile thinking of it. Glad I will be able to enjoy it with my children for a long time!

We purchased BVC 250 points resale a few years back for $105 a point...did not have the benefits because of resale so we bought 25 points VGF last year at $185 a point when 25 points was all you needed to qualify for benefits. We then added 100 points VGF at $139 in resale after we had the benefits locked it.

This past April was the first year we got to use the benefits for discounts as well as for the annual pass purchase. We definitely feel the 25 point add on was worth it for the restaurant discounts, merchandise discounts along with the annual pass discount. Also, our kids fell in love with the members lounge at Epcot. Every time we were at Epcot they wanted to spend time at the lounge to use the iPads and get free drinks and snacks. Not a big benefit I know, but we all loved it! Now I would definitely have to think about it if I had to buy 75 points for the benefits add on, especially given how much direct from Disney went up earlier this year.

I feel like we just snuck in with the 25 point minimum, but if we had purchased our DVC a year earlier, we wouldn't have had to buy anything from Disney to get the benefits. It's all about timing but the decision worked well for us.
