7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise July 25 - August 1, 2009

moet7 (+DH, are your offspring 23, 20, 15, and 11 traveling with you?)

Yes! we will all be cruising to celebrate our 25th. Forgot to add: DS23,
DS20, DS15, DD11.

Thanks for putting together the list! :)

and welcome aboard. We did well last night and got what we were hoping for, but man am I tired! :surfweb:

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the welcome and glad you were able to get what you wanted. It can be very stressful for first time cruisers. Last time we went I changed my Palo two times once I boarded. DCL holds back space for this I think! :)

We used to live in Houston about 6 years ago. Actually, it was Katy, Tx.

Thanks for putting together the list of cruisers! My boys are happy to know there will be some kids their ages (11 & 8). I'm glad everyone got the reservations they wanted....hope there will be something left when I finally get around to arranging things. Is anyone going on the Pirate Cruise in Grand Cayman? My boys really want to do that!

In my humble opinion, it's very likely that Mexico (including Coz) will be "open" when we sail in late June. However, if the travel advisory hasn't been lifted by then, the following is an example of the likely itinerary/schedule change:

Confirmed via automated message. 5/16 western itinerary switched from Cozumel to Nassau. They will switch from Day 5 Cozumel, Day 6 At Sea, to Day 5 At Sean, Day 6 Nassau. All other ports unchanged.

...At this time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are still recommending that travelers avoid non-essential travel to Mexico. As a result of this recommendation, Disney Cruise Line has modified the May 16, 2009 Western Caribbean voyage of the Disney Magic to include a stop in Nassau, The Bahamas, instead of Cozumel, Mexico...

...At this time, no itinerary changes have been made to future Western Caribbean voyages. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation and make future modifications as needed...

ADDED May 12,2009:
Hi, I was just on the 5/2 Western. Our special dining nights were as follows: Monday-Formal, Tuesday-Pirate, and Wednesday-Semi Formal. Have a great cruise! You will enjoy Nassau:)

Notice that sea day switches from Day 6 to Day 5. If it does happen, and your Palo arrangements, etc. are made "sub-optimal" by the change, don't freak out, change them, or, if you can't, go with the flow and have fun anyways.

On our first cruise, we had no idea when to book Palo, and we ended up having to rush through our Palo dinner in only 35 minutes (!!!) The staff was awesome, we had fun, the food was great, and we have fond memories of that rushed dinner. It's all goon, mon! :hippie:

I made a change already!! Remember I wanted the Dolphin Encounter but all that was showing up was the EXTREME Dolphin excursion. Well I checked a few times today and lo and behold, the one I wanted showed up! When I clicked on it, just said "new" so they must have just added it. YAY!! Saved $60 on that one!

That's great, congrats!! Glad to see you got what you wanted!!
p.s.- I was worried about the character breakfast too...:scared:

I know!! I hate not knowing everything ahead of time!!

I just bit the bullet and booked Palo dinner too. What the heck! Might as well go for it!

We couldn't decide which restaurant we wanted to miss out on to go to Palo for dinner. We also wanted our DD to enjoy the different restaurants with us, so we did not book it. We are just going to stick with the brunch... I think!

Is anyone interested in doing the fish extenders on our adventure?
I have never done them before, but it might be fun to do.

We are new also. :cool1:

Someone will have to take charge and let us newbies know what to do with the fish extenders, but our family is in for a spin... :confused3

Hey, I was just poking around the DCL website and I saw that they had assigned us a stateroom. #6556

We reserved a GTY cat. 6. Is this our final room or will that change and does anyone know anything about the room or it's location??? :confused3

Thanks for any help.... :thumbsup2

I would love to get involved in a Fish Extender Exchange... When we traveled on the Med in 07, we loved the "little gifts " exchange we did with our fellow dissers.. my son loved seeing our magnets on other doors. Haven't done a Fish exchange but... I'm in!

I still have the MYSTERY bottle from our Thread Starter from Belgium!!!

Thanks
Susan :cool1:

If we are up for doing FEs, these threads will explain all:

Fish Extenders. Thread

Making a "no sew" Fish Extender.

They are basically hanging "pockets" that attach to the decorative fish outside of a cabin's door:

SSMC05door.jpg

I didn't know about them on our last cruise, but their purpose seems to be to have a place for fellow cruisers/DISers to leave mementos/small gifts to other cruisers.

The fish extenders look like fun! I am sure that the boys will have a blast!
On another note, we booked the Pirate Cruise at Grand Cayman in the afternoon. The boys are so excited.

Hi
I checked the stateroom reports out for your, link is below and sorry to say that people are saying it's a bad room :( Last report was from January of 2009. But..........just because someone gave it a bad review doesn't mean YOU will also find it to be bad also. It's a GREAT location! I think right now if you have four in the room, there is no other cat. 6 available as they are selling them as guar. You can always call your TA and see what you can do...........or wait to see if you have problems with the room also. Print out the report and take it with you.......if you experience the same problems go to guest services and request to be moved and show them that you know others have had issues with the room also!

Wishing you pixie dust that the room will be perfect for you!:wizard:

If TxPrinceCharmingDad has any concerns, it couldn't hurt to call DCL and find out what their policy is on room noise, and how he can go about changing rooms (either before the trip or on the trip) if the situation requires. I would definitely quote the date and comments of the cruisers in the stateroom reports that moet7 referenced.

That being said, the situation may only occur when certain conditions line up on the ship, and may never show up during our sailing, so here is some extra good luck:

Thanks for the list: it's great to see from where our fellow cruisers are coming! And it was a real pleasure starting up this thread!

Dirk.

Yep, that sounds like a good idea. We can also "arrange" a DIS meet on board, on the first day. When we did the Med cruise, there was a DIS meet were we changed small presents from where you live...
