7 months out and no availability except OKW, SSR and Kidani?

Think about it from the point of view of the person you are renting from. They are a private individual, not a business. You want them to wake up early and make a reservation that has no guarantee of success, not pay for it until the reservation is made, which may leave them holding the bag on points with no compensation if you say "nah, I decided not to" because you don't want to put anything down until the reservation is made - for the same amount of money they could get rid of the points for without the hassle of your reservation pretty much any time

There are some really sweet people out there who might do this, but you are asking a lot from a stranger so you can save money.

I would not ask someone to do that, but most renters on the boards don't require a deposit until reservation is made or only require a small deposit prior to reservation. But I take your point.

You pretty much summed up the business case for using an agency right there!

[The tl:dr version is on many threads in the Rent forum. Owner: "Points available for stays after 8/1/2016!" Other user, in reply: "Looking for a week at spring break in a VGF studio in mid-March!!!!"]

Your case is different than most. If I rent my points privately through the boards, I'm most likely to make the reservation the same day or the day after initial contact. I'll have payment within 24 or 48 hours of initial contact should things move quickly. If a someone wants an owner to make use of an opening at the eleven month or seven month window - they need to find that owner several weeks in advance. I'd have to commit my points to you without payment until the reservation can be made. In the meantime, I've probably got a dozen other responses from people interested in my points where I can make the reservation and get my money now and not have to bother with what from my end is the risk you are putting into the deal.

Or as aurora says - this is why so many members go through brokers. Brokers take the hassle out for the owner.

There are some really sweet people that rent their points - you may find someone to do what you are looking for. (Note that I'm not one of the sweet people, I rent my points through a broker and only consider contracts that have a very high probability that the reservation can be made at all. If I rent my points, I just want it a done deal) But you'll probably have to kiss a lot of toads.

Thanks, All! I'm planning for a trip in 2018 (I know, crazy). We would be renting points and a lot of times renters charge less for points from SS or OKW. Sometimes as much as $3 per/pt (which adds up). In 2018, Easter is April 1st and our Spring Break would be April 16. It seems like there would be a chance we could get a 2 bedroom at BCV or BLT, but it would be a risk. And I would need to line up a friendly renter, who would be willing to go online early to secure the reservation.
Different people do things differently. SSR/OKW commands less because what you can get with them is of a lower value in many cases. It's really that certain things command more like VGF. As someone who rents out occasionally my first commitment is to myself and my personal safety and stress reduction. I don't normally charge a deposit but then again I'm consistently renting using current UY points early in my UY and/or to those I've rented for over the years (actually almost all of my rentals now). If someone wanted me to wait list or book something that had to be reserved right at 11 months out day one, I would require a deposit in almost all cases everyone should. That deposit would be between 10% & 25% depending on specifics and would be non refundable if the reservation were secured as agreed. If 10% it'd also require additional payment in a timely manner also non refundable to get to my usual terms of 25% due up front and the remainder at 120 days out all non refundable.
