Thinking of booking a trip to GCV October 2017...is that a tough time to get in there at the 7 month mark? I'm thinking beginning of October (when we have Canadian Thanksgiving!)
Grand Cal is always pretty tough because it is so small. Also remember that early October in the US includes the Columbus Day holiday, which can make booking a challenge around those dates.
First half of Oct all room categories at VGC are usually missing 3 to 5 days a week at 7 months out. Second half somewhat better as 1BRs and 2BRs are often open except that they usually disappear very quickly at exactly 8 a.m. 7 months out.

We did October 2015 for 3 days at VGC just before Halloween. We wanted a studio but the only option at 7 months at 8AM was a 1 bedroom so we grabbed it. Glad we did because we enjoyed the additoinal room. We ended up making dinner in the room and had guests over. The washer/dryer came in handy too. Its just so expensive point wise so it ate up a lot of them.
We got in for last October on a 7 month reservation in a studio. Had to book the very second that I could, any hesitation at that time and I would have missed out as they were gone super fast!!
We did a California Coastal cruise in October in 2013 and we decided to stay at VGC before or after the cruise. Because we plan and book our cruises well in advance we noticed that our October dates which were before and after Columbus day were booked solid for the year before our cruise. So we ended up renting points from a VGC owner via David's Rentals. When the 7 month mark came around our dates were already gone the day before.
It turns out that many members were staying at VGC because there was a walk for a charity going on that weekend in addition to the Halloween party at DLRA.
