7 month window availability

Hi - I've been looking for a while now and I think I like OKW for a number of reasons - size of rooms (I have 3 young boys . . . enough said), relative quiet of the resort (my wife can feel like we're on vacation), point cost, lower per night point rentals. But before we take the plunge I just want to reassure myself that we would at least have some chances of trying out other resorts some years. So my specific question is this: does anyone have a sense as to the chances of booking a 2 bedroom at the other resorts for sometime in either late June or anytime in August at the 7 month window?

If we are in OKW some or even most years, that would be fine. But I'd like to know we could try the others some years. Thanks for any help & tips.

I think your chances of booking during the summer at the 7 month mark are very good at most resorts. I think HH would probably be the most difficult, but the WDW DVC resorts should be okay for most years.

Except for the busiest times of the year (for DVC) you should be fine. You might have to wait list a day or two, but I still don't see it being a problem the time of year mentioned.

The beach resorts might be the exception to that, but not 100% sure. Never tried to stay there...yet.

I don't see a problem. As long as you book at the 7 month window and use waitlists where necessary, you should be fine.

I tend to be more pessimistic than most in this area and as long as you're flexible at to which resort and willing to use the wait list, I doubt you'll ever have much of a problem. The issues would be 3 BR and BWV standard view for those times and even those might be doable from time to time.

As an example, we are 2 months away from a desired stay at end of August. I have been calling MS to see what's available (although we are looking at a 1BR). They have OKW, SSR, BWV (preferred only), and VWL. No BCV, no BWV standard or no BWV boardwalk view. I think that's probably fairly typical.

I also think you will be fine. I got VWL at the 7-month for May with no problem.

OKW IS GREAT but have you considered SSR for the extra 12 yrs since you have 3 young boys.

SSR is also great and DTD is right next door

I think your chances of being able to try SSR are excellent.

But seriously, as for the smaller DVC resorts, I think you'll do OK. As long as you don't need to be there any particular year and will be patient, I'm sure it will work out sometimes.

Thanks for all the input - it was very helpful. Yesterday my offer on an OKW contract was accepted so now, as Homer Simpson says, "we play the waiting game."

Re the suggestion about SSR - I thought long and hard about it, but the size of the rooms was a big factor (we're likely to have 4 adults and 3 kids on monst trips), and I could get significantly more points for my $$. Plus the right contract came along - lots of banked points. But who knows if this is my last contract . . . Thanks again.
