First of all, we were supposed to call yesterday and we FORGOT!! Can you believe it? We realized at 9:35 last night that we were supposed to call. We had been talking and planning for weeks about when to call...

We will be going to Disney for 2 days after a 4 day cruise. My parents are traveling with us. We want a 2 bedroom. Our choices were: BLT, THV, BCV, WLV, AKV, SSR, OKW. At BLT they did have a lake view for Friday night, but nothing for Thursday. Nothing at THV or BCV. We did get a 2 bedroom at VWL.

We currently own at HHI. We bought a small resale there with cash to get our feet in the DVC door. I'm thinking that we are going to need to find our favorite resort on Disney property and buy there as well.

Well, you got your 4th choice out of 7! Did you waitlist for any of the first 3 choices? The weekend of your trip is Marathon weekend. We have a dedicated 2 bedroom and a studio at VWL, yesterday was the first day we could call regarding the studio and I also inquired about dedicated 2 bedrooms at BLT, either standard or bay view, and they weren't available for our 5 night stay, all nights. Weekend and Sunday nights were available, but I didn't want my family to move. So, I waitlisted for a dedicated 2 bedroom, both views for all 5 nights.

Don't know if it will come through. VWL would have been our first choice for this trip except the 1/2 marathon goes right past the Contemporary resort so for this trip that's what we hope for, but the VWL reservation makes us very happy.

I see you didn't try for BWV but it could be available because it's larger. If you wanted BCV for SAB, you may find that January's weather doesn't lend itself for swimming too much.

You also now have a concrete reason for adding on at a WDW resort, that's not bad either.

And people keep posting that it doesn't matter where you buy. :sad2:

Well, the OP kinds of proves that is true. They didn't get their first choice but they did get something, and it wasn't even SSR or OKW, the two that most assume you will get. :)

If you are going to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on pre-paid resort accommodations, doesn't it make sense to do what ever you can to improve your chance of getting what you want?

My motto, "Buy where you love to stay" doesn't hurt a members chances of getting what they want.

Telling a member that it doesn't matter where they buy could have an impact on their ability to get their favorite resort now and even more so in the future.

I don't think that's true at all. What I've seen and what I've said is that I believe the other factors (price and RTU expiration) have become more important for many, but not all, owners or potential owners. I've also stated that I believe the 7 month window is getting more and more difficult and will cont to do so at least for the next 2-3 years due to the SSR points and their use patterns. Certainly if one must have a given resort essentially every trip and can reserve at 11 months out, they should buy there.

We are used to staying in an off-site timeshare, so any Disney property is great with us. We have been to HHI twice and love the Disney resort there. I was hoping for BLT or BCV because of their access to more transportation to Disney. We always have our own vehicle, but with my parents there, we thought the monorail or walk to Epcot would be easier than the buses if we wanted to travel to the parks at different times.

My daughter is in year round school and we typically travel in September. We'll see what it is like getting a resort in September. If we ever fall in love with a Disney timeshare in Orlando, we'll certainly buy there, as long as we can pay cash.

We didn't waitlist. We just wanted to have our plans confirmed. We booked the cruise 21 months out and are just ready to have all of our plans in place and wait for January to get here. Of course, we still have to book our excursions and meals at the 90 day mark!

A friend is staying at BCV, which is another reason we wanted there. We may try for SAB for a September trip. We overlooked BWV.

I do agree that if your resort choice will make or break your trip, you certainly may want to buy where you want to stay. I don't know if it will ever come to the point that you are not able to get in any resort at the 7 month mark. At this point, we are just happy to be in Disney's system.
