We just got back from WDW on Saturday and I’m so missing it. I brought my refillable mug with me to work to drink out of, but it’s just not the same, sigh... I figured I’d get to work though on our dining report. It was just myself and my very newly 7 year old son (we arrived on his birthday). We mixed things up a little this trip by starting off with his birthday night at the Nick Hotel before moving over to All Star Sports for 7 nights. We also visited the Universal parks for the first time. We were on the regular DDP and it made things a little interesting in terms of using our CS credits since we had those two days at Universal where we normally would have had lunch at one of the Disney parks. The credits all worked out, but did involve using some of them for breakfast which I normally consider a waste, but what can you do. This was also our first time at the T-Rex Café, 1900 Park Fare, Tusker House and Coraf Reef. We always include a trip to Chef Mickey and SciFi. We also used to love LTT, but without the characters, not worth it, although we may have been in the minority in enjoying the food there.

I can also give a review of the Nick Hotel character breakfast if anyone is interested, although I totally forgot to take pictures of the food there (which was surprisingly edible) although I did get pictures of my son with the characters.

There's only a short review for this day since we arrived in the afternoon at All Star Sports after leaving the Nick Hotel. I had originally wanted to have dinner at SciFi, it’s usually our first ADR. And especially as my son’s birthday was the day before, I wanted to get that dinner since he loves it there, but when I called at the 90 day mark there was nothing available for dinner at all. I then booked LTT hoping the characters would be back, but no luck. We decided to try out the T-Rex Café instead. I had called the T-Rex directly a few days before to get a reservation but they said they had only a limited number and they were taken, but that because we were looking for an early reservation (5:00-5:30ish) that it shouldn’t be a problem for a walk-up.

We arrived about 5:15pm and there was already a line out the door. They took my name and told me it would be about a 20 minute wait. It’s not that big a deal, although it was about 98 degrees and melting in the pavement hot. I was so happy when we were finally able to move into the restaurant, even just to wait, although I think we only had maybe a 15 minute wait. We were seated in the Fern Forest, not far from the entrance to the Ice Cave. My son was happy checking out the dinos in the room and our server told us not to miss when they do the meteor shower by the T-Rex. My son ordered the Shrimpkens, which is his standard order when we got to Rainforest Café, only at RFC I only recall them offering one side, but at T-Rex he was able to pick two, and chose chips and jello to go with it. I ordered the fried shrimp with the waffle fries. The shrimp came with both tartar and cocktail sauce. I tried the shrimp and it had this spiciness to it that I thought was unusual for fried shrimp. Then I took another bite and there was no spiciness. I realized that it wasn’t the shrimp, it was actually the tartar sauce I’d been dipping it in that was spicy. I’ve never had spicy tartar sauce before, this was a new one. I wasn’t that keen on it, so I ate them with the cocktail sauce that was very tasty. And the waffle fries were excellent. We had been considering dessert but were too stuffed and skipped it.

I should add that the picture of the shrimp didn't come out that great, but really they were very good and the fries too.

Our server made a point of finding my son when one of the meteor showers was about to start and taking him to the Ice Cave to see it while I was paying the check, which was really nice. I definitely recommend it, it was alot of fun, not too loud like I've read in alot of reviews. Hands down better than the Rainforest Cafe in my opinion.

Having been too stuff for dessert in the T-Rex we of course headed over a little later to Ghirardelli’s for a sundae, lol. We shared a peanut butter hot fudge sundae. This was sooooo good!! We got it with chocolate ice cream, and it had yummy peanut butter swirled through it, whipped cream, hot fudge obviously, and a chocolate peanut butter candy square in it. Mmmmm. No pics though. There were no indoor seats, or outdoor ones for that matter. We had to grab a bench and eat it quickly before it melted. I’ll just let you picture in your minds the chocolate peanut butter yumminess (I am a huge chocolate freak, and pair it with peanut butter and it will be my goddess).

Yes, those are chicken nuggets. He got the Shrimpkens which is popcorn shrip and chicken nuggets. He ate them all so they must have tasted good.

In case your area doesnt sell them, Perdue makes nuggets shaped like dinosaurs. They are the same as the oval ones, but my kids say they taste much better. Of course you get less in a package for the same price.

can't wait to see more reviews. I want to try T-Rex next time we are at WDW. We thought about eating there a couple of times, but always found ourselves wandering back to Wolfgang Express.

My four-year-old son is going through a faze where he is terrified of loud noises, but he loves dinosaurs. He won’t be bothered by loud noises such as people talking and such. I didn’t know if the dinosaurs made noises or not.

The dinosaurs could be loud periodically, but not as loud as I'd expected. I think it also depends on where you're sitting.

I didn't actually try to get a reservation at T-Rex until much closer to our trip. I'm sure I wouldn't have had a problem getting one at 90 days, but we didn't settle on T-Rex until much closer.

This was our first parks day. We were up early to be at Hollywood Studios at rope drop. Actually, we're up early any day since my son still wakes up by 6:00-6:30 anyway. We just hit the food court in All Star Sports. I got the chocolate chip pancakes and my son got an adult Mickey waffle because he didn't want the little ones. It was good. Here's a couple of pics, but beware Mickey's already missing an ear.

For lunch we went to 50s PrimeTime Cafe. It was a great break because it was HOT that day. Can I say that again, HOT!!!! The last time we went my son was a little more adventurous and got the meatloaf, but this time just wanted the chicken nuggets or "nicken chuggets" as our server called them. I got my standard, the pot roast. I was going to see if I could get a shake for my drink and then for some reason decided to get a diet coke instead. I was kicking myself for that later, I love their shakes. I didn't enjoy the pot roast as much as a I usually do. It was a little fattier and not as tasty I remember. My son ate the nuggets or "chuggets" but didn't eat most of the fries, saying they were "too soft". For dessert, he got the make your own sundae and I chose the brownie sundae. I usually get the smores but it just wasn't smores weather. And they didn't bring around the viewmasters to select the desserts, they just gave me a dessert card to look at. The brownie sundae was outstanding. Unfortunately midway through the sundae, my son knocked over his almost full cup of root beer all over the table, including the sundae. Oh well. And when the server had been clearing our plates before she brought dessert he had told her that she could take the root beer. When they came over to clean up the mess, she told him that he was right she should have taken the root beer. My son also loved it when one of the other servers came around telling a couple of jokes. "Who's the father of all corn?" - "Popcorn". "What's Mickey's favorite car?" - "A Minnie van."

All in all, the food wasn't quite as good as I remembered, although the sundaes were fabulous, but it was a good meal and a really nice break in our day.

I'm really enjoying your reviews! I love 50's PTC - this is one of my favorites - I always get the Pot Roast too. That's kinda weird about not having a viewmaster for you - even though we know the desserts already, we still enjoy looking at them in the viewmaster.

Have to say our last visit to prime time was much the same - we'd had a great time there on our first visit but were somewhat underwhelmed last time.
