Hi Mke:yay:

Juilie did you go to Times Square last night?

My students (kindergarten) decided to write a letter to Obama this morning. I'm trying to find out where to send it.:confused3 If you have any ideas, please PM me.

No, because my girls had to go to school today and the littlest one definitely could not stay up, we were at home . . . Times Square looked like a lot of fun, though.

I would try this:

Senator Barack Obama
713 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510
(202) 224-2854

or this

Senator Barack Obama
John C. Kluczynski Federal Office Building
230 South Dearborn St.
Suite 3900 (39th floor)
Chicago, Illinois 60604

for your kids to write -- he has a staff both places that sort through the mail and you have a better chance of being noticed there than at his campaign headquarters.

Can't they do both ?? Over here in the UK the Prime Minister and deputy PM and all the front benchers all hold parlimentary seats and they have to represent their constituents as well.

Izzi, I thought of a more important reason why this is not possible -- we have three branches of government -- Executive, Legislative, and Judicial -- and they are set up to provide checks and balances to prevent one branch from having too much power, and you definitely couldn't have a person in two branches, Executive (VP) and Legislative (senator) at the same time . . . So this is a very different set up from yours with the PM, etc.

Fine, I'll come with you to Italy, do I have to know the language?

:scratchin Well, it would probably be a good idea for one of us to learn the language, I can understand it but don't always get the accent right - although I think I remember that Julie knows some Italian. :rolleyes1

Tis all over , but the shouting! No more nasty political ads! :cool1: Our precent has 1,917 reg voters and 860 voted. I was 186 at 9 AM. Our PTO made $450 on the bake sale.

Of course I was patrotic and stimulated the economy today! And my Disney VISA card!

Yeah for the nasty ads being over!

Looks like we have a new president..............

I just listened to his speech.

I figure we've either just elected the biggest con-artist in history....

or we have been fortunate enough, as we have in the past in times of great crisis, to find another Lincoln, FDR, JFK caliber leader just in the nick of time.

I choose to believe the latter.

Well, as the saying goes - you vote for the lesser of two evils. As for me - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, tis over and done with and all we can do is hope and pray that our Country can be united together. I'm not sure how I feel, there is a part of me that is jubilant and a part that is a bit sad. I agree with the comment of someone who said that McCain's speech was eloquent. As I've been telling the girls, cream always rises to the top no matter the situation - and that goes for BOTH SIDES! :goodvibes (No one cheered louder than I when the attacks against Govenor Palin's DD came up for being pregnant - I thought Obama showed true class when he said the attacks on family must stop - ::yes:: - I :sad1: )

I truly hope that the promises made on the campaign trail come to fruitation, I, for one, would love to see some of our service members return home where they are desparately missed and wanted. Also, for our own children to have insurance. That being said, the sad part of me now has to realize that this may and probably will affect my life as a business owner. I"ve always been a sort of Robin Hood but that was by choice, now, my choice has been taken away from me.

However, congrats to everyone for voting - I love it when the system works the way it is supposed too - lets hope that it continues its upward spiral. Some precints had as high as 85% Our precint was up in voter registration from a dismal 35% a few years ago to 83%.

Now, hows that for being PC? I tried my hardest and I hope I did a fair job if I do say so myself. Now, lets get behind this administration and do our best to better this world! :upsidedow

Oh Yeah! On a funny note, I've mentioned that I live down the street (literally) from the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder? Well, we were returning from a celebratory dinner last night when we were detoured due to the police shutting down the streets. I was joking and said that the votes were coming in and lo and behold - they were. It was actually a bit thrilling to realize what was happening and to be so close to it.

I know a bit stupid and cheesy but HEY! Whatever floats your boat huh? :confused3

Oh yeah, as a remiinder, my brother just called - a lot of stores (he works for CVS) have put their Halloween candy on sale. Now would be a good time if anyone sponsors a service member or donates to charities like the Ronald McDonald House to buy candy bags and donate them. I place an order of $20 as CVS has discounted their candy bags 75%. He usually gets a ton of them but now I mail them off. LOL - my family usually does not know what I do at my house and when he asked me why I needed so much candy as my kids don't usually eat candy - they know me  I'm the mom that throws the candy away after 3 weeks - ANYWAY, when I told him what I was doing, he got all quiet on me and I thought he hung up on me. But hey - he volunteered! What does he want the candy for?

And for anyone that is interested, the P.O. has military boxes usually behind the counter especially addressed for service members for a cheaper mailing price - the boxes are free you just have to ask.

DOne - got to go and walk my dogs - they are driving me nuts. I gave one of my dogs a day walk yesterday and today she jumped on the bed and woke me up licking me - she never does that - this is the diva devil dog - guess she was trying to butter me. LOL - I'm going to walk her later but she likes the morning. :dog2:

:confused3 What the heck - did I scare everybody off - I promise - I took a shower. Or is it my novels? :rotfl:

Oh Yeah! Mike - you getting ready? Be prepared soon - page 230!!!!! :rotfl2:

I thought John McCains concession speech was very graceful, it is tougher to be noble in defeat then victory!

It was very graceful. I can't help but wonder if he wasn't secretly relieved that he doesn't have to be president now (I mean, I sure wouldn't want the job).

Can't they do both ?? Over here in the UK the Prime Minister and deputy PM and all the front benchers all hold parlimentary seats and they have to represent their constituents as well.

One of the few actual jobs required of the vice president is to break a tied vote in the senate if it occurs -- if he remained senator, he would in theory have two votes in such a case, which would not be fair. In reality, the vice pres is required to do so many things (mainly standing in for the pres when needed at events) that I don't think a VP could fairly serve his or her constituents in the senate even if it was allowed.

I'm pretty sure it's not allowed for a person to belong to two branches at once, but in a quick look at the constitution I didn't find a prohibition.

No, because my girls had to go to school today and the littlest one definitely could not stay up, we were at home . . . Times Square looked like a lot of fun, though.

OK I was shutting down and came across this: :scared1: Not sure whether to laugh or cry - I hope this was meant as a joke among friends only. But thanks for the heads up on the lingo - now if I hear anyone call me that - I'll know to be upset! ;)

Social network jokes result in 13 Virgin Atlantic employees being fired by Scott Carmichael Nov 1st 2008 @ 1:00PM

13 Virgin Atlantic cabin crew members have found themselves in hot water (and without a job) after they posted inappropriate jokes about their employer on social networking site Facebook.

The jokes involved the crew members calling passengers "chavs" (the British equivalent of the US Redneck) and making jokes about faulty engines that had to be replaced 4 times a year. Other jokes claimed that Virgin Atlantic planes were full of cockroaches.

The Facebook group was setup by crew members based out of Gatwick airport. When Virgin Atlantic discovered the Facebook group, all 13 members were fired and the Facebook group was removed.

While the punishment may seem a little harsh, Virgin Atlantic is in a very competitive market, where jokes like this could cost a significant amount of money.

Virgin Atlantic has a more friendly (and official) Facebook page, with close to 7000 friends as well as links to their hottest deals and some video footage from a Virgin Atlantic cameo in the newest Bond movie.

:wave2: Andrew - no work this week? Wait! :headache: Forgot time difference what is it again from the West Coast?
Its about 9pm, I have been to work since Tuesday.

:scratchin Wouldn't that be "ex-employees"? ;) Good because I for one would have been :furious: if I'd been on there.

OK this time I really got to go - the stomachs gowling - hold the fort gentlemen, TTYL! :wave2:

We're getting real close to the max on our thread, I think, so I copied the pirate: list, Izzi's links, and the list of who's going into a word doc. Although, I'm sure others have done the same. Better safe than sorry!

Hello everyone!:hippie:

I admit I did take a nap today:rotfl2:

I was online last night and noticed my son in Germany was online. It was 4 in the morning there! I asked him about it and he had gotten up to watch the election online. I was so proud!:goodvibes

Older DS went to an election watch party on campus and the rumor was that whomever lost the followers were going to fight the followers of the one that won, so there were lots of police there. Nothing at all happened, but with college students you never know!:sad2:

It is good to know about the facebook stuff. I just started one for my business, and I will be even more careful now.:upsidedow

How exciting for you! Its almost like having them in the house with you huh? OK well maybe not exactly but at least your talking with them. When my son moved out (we weren't talking at the time) I knew his new online name and I put it in my watch list - it was a bit comforting to know when he was onlin even though he didn't talk with me so this way - I was able to "keep an eye on him" even though I really wasn't.

I, too, have to admit I didn't even know what facebook was and I have to admit that I may be one of the only Americans who does not have a myspace account. Anyone else? Maybe that can be our question of the day - how about it folks? Anyone else in the stone age like me? No myspace or facebook?

:wave2: Andrew - no work this week? Wait! :headache: Forgot time difference what is it again from the West Coast?

UK is 8 hours ahead of you. They are 5 hours ahead of the east coast.
If you think that is fun wait until there are the 3 hours of time differences on the cruise. This past summer DD was texting a friend in AZ and we had to keep remembering the time difference, especially in StP when there was an 11 hour difference. :confused3 :yo-yo:

I just started facebook and it is quite addicting  I do not have a myspace account but have seen them.

Great news.......I can do the accent even if I can't speak the language!!:thumbsup2 Two of my grandparents came from Italy so I grew up hearing them speak!!

Nice synopsis of the election, I am happy, but I am also hoping the promises come to fruition.

No more ads!!!:woohoo:
