7/18/10 Mickey's Baltic Ballyhoo Part 6

We were planning to DIY, and we felt Stockholm was the most difficult of the cities to do it. Seems that the nice areas to walk around are far enough away that you can't just walk - need to take a shuttle or public bus. We'll still try, maybe try to get off as early as we can and then be back on before they leave.

Ken

We are going to try and do the same thing.

We were booked on the Skansen Museum and Swedish Fairytales through DCL but I got a call last week from them letting us know the time for this excursion had been reduced. The tour is now expected to be back to the ship in time for lunch so lunch was dropped from the tour. The price was reduced a little. I cancelled our excursion through DCL and we will now do it on our own in order to have a little more time.

We didn't get anything (letter, e-mail, call) letting us know that the ship will leave Stockholm early. It is disappointing to find out we won't have as much time in Stockholm as we originally thought. I am sure we will enjoy the port either way. :)

I guess it's safe to assume (never assume???) that we would have been contacted if our DCL tour was changed. I checked the DCL site and our Historic Stockholm with lunch in Sigtuna appears not to have changed, but the Skansen museum with fairytale has been modified to show it without lunch.

It might have something to do with the long lines to get back on the ship in Stockholm. The 3rd cruise was notified that their boarding time will be later as the ship will be returning to Dover later. They are probably working the kinks out as they go.

We are booked for the same excursion. (Skansen Museum and Swedish Fairytales) We got a call saying they were shortening the excursion and therefore reducing the cost. I don't remember them saying how long the excursion is now. Do you? :confused3:confused3

We also got a letter yesterday saying we are leaving the port early.

I now am having the same debate over sticking with the DCL excursion or do it DIY. I know we can get to the Open Air Museum fairly easy but, don't know about the children's museum.

We did the same - kroner-krona??????? Hopefully we'll remember to take the right currency in the correct port. I'll feel like I'm in an old movie, "If it's Tuesday it must be Belgium????"

Yes, it took me a while to separate all the notes as a lot are kroner, and you have to read the note to work out what country,so I made it idiot proof and put each one in an envelope.

Just checked our DCL excursion does not return untill 3:15 Hmmmmmm!:lmao:

Well we didn't want to tell you, but we are all back at 3pm, ensure you have your camera with you, I understand the Magic looks very nice when it leaves Stockholm, you can get a good shot from the dock.

I am on that tour as well, one cruise did have the lunch chopped out of it and a small refund, my online says 3pm now, but description hasn't changed.

It looks like the length of the tour is the same so maybe they are leaving earlier?

I was torn about this one even before they contacted me because according to the Skansen Museum web site, it doesn't open until 10 am. I don't want to just "see" it, I want to "experience" it.

From what I can tell on the different web sites, the Vasa Museum, Junibacken (where Pippi Longstocking's house is) and the Skansen Museum are all very close together. The Vasa opens at 8:30, Junibacken at 9 and Skansen at 10. We are going to try to visit all three in that order, just not all at the exact opening times.

I think tours always have a *buffer* zone, I always seem to be back early on DCL tours, but they will have cut the slack, so no leeway on people being late.

They did this for Acapulco in 2008 with an early departure and one bus went AWOL 45 mins.

So update me Ladies and Gents,

When are you all coming across the pond?

And who is staying in London and where???

Do you know that last week I went to Gatwick, then Heathrow, and was looking at luggage labels and didn't see any for DCL or clues they were on a cruise, some have old labels on them, most wouldn't have attached the cruise ones as yet.

But....................

At London Bridge tube saw a family and the teenage girl had a Castaway Club lanyard on her!!!! And today at Thomas Cook, when I got my $1 bills I was asked what for, replied Disney cruise, ohh one of are staff have just come back from a Baltic Disney cruise and it was fantastic.

So if you see a strang bloke looking at your luggage ask are you ADUK????

We would love to get into the postcard exchange. We are a bit late on the FE but will try and come to the meet at 3pm on the first sailing day at Diversions (if available....). We will bring some Switzerland postcards with us for the swap. We are in Cabin 7503.

Dan, Eileen, and Abby (almost 11).

I will put you down on the list on page 1.

We are arriving 7:10am on the 18th..............:scared1::sad2::confused:
Talk about jet lag!

Yes, recall that now, that is leaving it close, some have posted about Jet Lag issues, its worse this direction ie to the East, better going West with the Sun.

Try to swap your watches to UK, time in the USA, at the airport and then eat, sleep etc to UK time, ie maybe not eat on plane but try to sleep.

I am always tired on planes, I am sure I could sleep. But what do we do with 3 very excited girls :dance3: and 1 bil who jumps at any creak or bump?:scared1:
