6/16-6/23 TR: It's Hot, Hot, Hot: Update 7/27 Top 10 Lists

I have to say that storm was one of the biggest, worst storms we have ever been in. We were staying off-property near the 535 and it was storming there for hours too. Our hotel and the WL are not close to each other so that tells you how big that storm was!

Congrats on the driver's license for your DD! I work w/ teenagers and they all come and buy parking permits from me (at the high school) once they get their licenses, and I am always thinking in my mind, "Remember not to park next to them in the lot for a couple months." Suprisingly, we have very few accidents on campus, considering how many teen drivers there are.

We were at the parks everyday at rope drop and usually back to resort for swim/rest by 2pm. We have never been the type to go back to the resort midday so this was a first for us.

Us too, it was definitely a must on this trip.

Our oldest daughter is in middle school so there is no pulling her out for vacations anymore.

My girls are in high school on block schedule. SO missing 5 days of school is like missing 10 days!:scared1:

I didn't find the crowds as bad as I had anticipated...avoided any EMH park and used FP so felt like we were able to do everything multiple times.

I agree!

We also did Universal for 3 days after our time at Disney. Stayed at Hard Rock. Was really glad to be home...atleast for a few days, now I am ready to head back. Why does everything seems so much easier to handle when you are in Disney???

I would like to try this some day, but the family just doesn't seem to be into it. :confused3

Sounds like you had a nice, relaxing evening. It's probably good you were able to do that on your first night. Now you can be well rested and ready for the next day!

We've never eaten at WCC but it's on my list of places I'd like to try.

Cool that you could see the water pageant from your room. :thumbsup2

Here's hoping the rain goes away! :wizard:

You need to try WCC. It is very different. And looking at the WL is worth the trip.

The rain does go away, but when it comes back, it comes back in a big way.

Great update!! Damn! I missed WL. I wish there was thunder storm when I was there. It must be awesome inside WL while thunder and lighting outside. I would've hang around the 4th floor balcony looking at the lagoon.

We ate at the WCC porch dining room once. I thought it was very nice. Much more quiet and private than the main dining room. I hope you get to eat at Artist Point too. That's a must for us.

I stood on our balcony for awhile during the storm, and it was so neat and a little scary.
No Artist Point for us. The food is too fancy for the 2 picky eaters in our family. (I happen to be one of them)

You could see the Electric Water Pageant from your room? That is awesome!

How sweet of your DD to want to save the main dining room for the little ones.:) I've seen pictures of the skillet and it looks delicious.

Tell your DD congratulations:cool1:on the driving test.

Yea that you got a picture of you and hubby that you like.:goodvibes

I found it funny that you and I both took similar pics of our rooms. Your room looks bigger.

DD took her first alone drive yesterday but only over the the school which is less than 2 miles. All went well.

That was one big storm!! Thanks for the info on the teenage drivers. She is a very responsible young lady. I'm sure she will be fine.

More to come everyone.

I am going to go a little off the trip report to show you what DH made for me. Yesterday while we were eating lunch the Fed Ex guy came to the door with a surprise for me. My husband has a Mac and created a book about our vacation. I don't know exactly how he did or how much it cost. (He won't tell me... That can't be good...:lmao:)

Here are a few pics of my lovely momento...

There were a lot more pages but I can't show you all my pics before I get to the posts.
This was a great surprise and I love it. I can't wait to show all of my friends at school.

That photobook is awesome. I like the drop shadow, the border, the postcard with comments. Great personal touch. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks, I thought you might like it. You and my DH should get together and talk photography. I don't know what a drop shadow is, but I like it too. :lmao:

On with the show!!!

Happy 4th of July!!!

I am on my way to my MIL's house today, so I thougt I would squeeze in a quick post.

Wed. June 17. This was our first full day at WDW and we headed to MK. From the WL you have 2 options. You can take a bus or a boat. We decided on the boat. We headed down at 8:00 to catch it. However, when we got there, the sign read that the boat to WL doesn't start running until 8:30. (30 minutes before the park opens) As luck would have it, the Contemporary boat was sitting at the dock. We decided to take the boat and grab the monorail. We have not ridden the monorail a lot in our previous trips. So, this was a treat for us. Here is a pic of WL from the water.

WL9.jpg

Here is a pic of the family on the boat.

Boatride.jpg

Arrived at the MK gates with no issues. Let me throw something in here. I have a friend that I teach with who was visiting WDW with his family during the same week as us. I helped his wife plan their trip. We saw him and his son this morning waiting for rope drop. Everyone now... It's a Small World After All!!!!

This opening of the park is by far and away my favorite! Here are 2 pics of the opening.

Dancer.jpg

Ok you are thinking, "Why did she post this pic?" Well, because I think she is so pretty, and this is one of the jobs I would have wanted to do when I was a young person.

Mickey2.jpg

And, Of course, the Big Cheese Himself!!!!

Finally we were allowed into the Greatest Place on Earth. We headed down Main Street. Now there was no need to run, because Space Mountain was closed. I figured that everyone else would spread out evenly, and I was right. We headed to POC. My daughters loved the movies, so I thought we would start there. NO Line!! Then onto BTMRR. NO LINE :cool1:
Here is a pic of DD 13 on the coaster. She is such a ham.

BTMR1.jpg

Haunted Mansion... No Line Are you seeing a pattern?? We really meandered through the lands. We were on the first raft to TSI and checked out the island. This is the first time the girls have been there. Sadly, we did not find any paint brushes. :sad2: I did find a rocking chair and sat in the shade for awhile. The girls really liked exploring. They said that they felt like they had the whole island to themselves. Yes, we did the barrel bridge. I love that thing. This is my favorite Hidden Mickey.

HiddenMickey.jpg

You can see it best on the raft back to FronteirLand.

We went and got a FP for Splash Mountain, rode the railroad to Toontown. Walked over and rode Stitch. I just don't get the attraction to this attraction?:confused3 But I went on because.... No Line!:cool1:
From here we headed to Tony's for Lunch. Now, I know this place gets some lousy reviews, but we really liked it. First of all, we were really hot at this point and this place is very cool. And when I say cool, I mean COLD!!! It felt great. The service was outstanding. The girls had spaghetti with Meatballs. I had the spaghetti and sausage. I really liked the sauce. It was a little spicy. DH had salmon on a salad. He really liked it. His favorite thing of all was the Tiramisu (sp?) He made us all taste it. He said it was the best one he had ever tasted.

From Tony's we headed to Splash Mountain to use our FP. Ok here the line was about 90 minutes for standby. Did I mention that it was hot. We rode and got wet. We decided to head back to WL for a break. When we got back this was waiting for us.
Stitch.jpg

We had a towel animal everyday!!!

We went to the pool. HINT COMING UP!! Bring water shoes. The concrete around the pool gets very hot. I just had on crocs and burned my feet on the way to the pool. I was really worried at the severity. It turned out not to be as bad as I had thought. This time I stayed and watched the pool party. There was dancing and a hula hoop contest. I liked the fact that the hula hoop contest was done by ages. There might have been more but I can't remember. The kids that joined in had a great time.

After our break, we headed back to MK for the evening. We went to Monster's Inc... No line :cool1: Got a little rain here but not enough to stop anyone. Had dinner at Peco's Bills. Good food. Longest line of the day. Got a FP for Jungle Cruise. Went in the Tiki Room, rode POC again...still No Line... Rode Jungle Cruise. Very funny. The young lady we had as our tour guide was very funny. :lmao: Went on the Swiss Family Treehouse. Here is a pic of the girls from the top.

Girlscastle2.jpg

Now my girls and DH did not like this attraction. They thought it was just a line for a ride with no ride at the end. I liked it. Maybe they needed to have seen the movie first so appreciate it. :confused3 But as everyone knows the real attraction is what is at the end..... Can you figure it out.....

DOLE WHIP!!!! No pics because we had to eat them so fast before they melted!!!

We headed over to the Carousel of Progress singing its song, but was turned away because of technical difficulty. :sad2:
We found a great place to watch Spectro and Wishes. If the castle is 12:00, then we stood at the rail at 4:00. It was perfect. We got there at about 8:00 for the 9:00 parade. There was a very nice family from Chicago standing next to us. We chatted for an hour. Everyone was so nice about making sure all the kids could see. We are tall, so we were towards the back, but had no trouble seeing. I'm glad most of the action is up on floats. Here is a pic of the castle changing colors.
Castle1.jpg

The parade was great. We were all set. There was one big family that tried to weasle their way in once the parade started. No one budged. They seemed mad that their kids couldn't see. They weren't speaking English, so I have no idea what they said. The father kept taking pics and showing the kids. There was absolutely no room to squeeze them in. My family chose to ignore them and just enjoy and we did. Here is Cindrella.
Spectro9.jpg

Then we had to wait the little while for WISHES. I have never seen this before, so I was very excited. YES, YES, there were tears. I love this pic of the clock on the castle.
Clock.jpg

After the parade a lot of people left the area. The pushy family did not, but now there was plenty of room so it didn't matter.

OK I feel foolish but I did not know that Tinkerbell was a real person.:scared1: I assumed that it was going to be some kind of special effect. I was absolutely amazed. My family was speechless. All they kept saying was did you know about Tinkerbell???

We loved Wishes. I can't say that enough. I am so glad I forced them to see it. They are glad too. :cloud9:

We made our way down Main Street. DH led us through the shops, so we got out fairly quickly. Headed to the boat dock where we go to watch the EWP while waiting for the boat. We headed back to WL after a wonderful, hot, surprising, relaxing day... I love this place.

Up next DHS and the heat gets worse.:sad2:

I will leave you with this pic...

Happy 4th of July. I am really enjoying your post - popcorn::

We have never been in the Treehouse - from the pictures of your girls, it looks like it has a wonderful view. Thanks for sharing!!

Drop shadow is the grey shadow behind each picture's white border. It gives a three dimension look instead of a flat look. It's a little extra detail that make the picture "pop". Not too many vendor would add that. It's just detail work.

Nice update. I never have Dole whip. I guess that's something to look forward to on our next trip.

So glad you got to see "Wish". I would see the "Wish" again just to take pictures. I don't mind the crowd. But some of those rude people can get my DW all round up. I will end up protecting those rude people from my DW since she's the one with the brown belt. :rotfl2:

I never knew boat ride from WL to MK do not start until 8:30am. Then again, we always took the boat ride to CR first then monorail because we always like to have breakfast before 8:00am.

Happy 4th of July BTW. I am exhausted from a 3 miles walk for ACS fund raising this morning. I can use some rest now. This part of PA is sunny but not too hot. Very nice!!

Jumping in! Loving your TR. Our trips overlapped a few days-end of yours, beginning of mine as I was there 19-27 at the Poly. We stayed at WL a few years ago and loved it  Can't wait to read more!

Wow, what a neat surprise. Yea DH!:yay:

Yep, he's a keeper!!

:welcome: and Thanks, It is a great view, and I'm not a fan of heights.

Dole Whips rock, but you have to like pineapple.

I want to make sure I post this correctly. The boat to MK starts 30 minutes before opening, so if MK opens at 8:00 then the boat starts at 7:30. My DD 13 tells everyone that we spent just as much time at the Contemporary as we did at WL because of all the times we went there to either catch a monorail or boat. As you will see later, we also ate at CM.

Jumping in! Loving your TR. Our trips overlapped a few days-end of yours, beginning of mine as I was there 19-27 at the Poly. We stayed at WL a few years ago and loved it  Can't wait to read more!

:thanks: and :welcome: I will jump over and read your TR as well. I would love to stay at the POLY sometime.

Wow, the picture of your girls on the treehouse is beautiful and the castle with the fireworks is breathtaking! Dole Whips=Yumm-O, but in the heat ours started melting before we even left the counter.:rotfl:

I'm a bit late to the party, but I made it:goodvibes I'm glad you enjoyed Mt. Vernon. It really is a beautiful place and the setting right on the river can't be beat:lovestruc I remember that Tuesday night storm too. We were in France hoping to finish up Kim Possible before the skys opened up. And we were at that same rope drop on Wedensday morning. It really was a relatively uncrowded morning at MK that day. Can't wait to hear more!

Hello all, We are now on Thursday, June 18. This morning we headed to DHS by taking a bus from WL. Again we had to make a stop at GF. We didn't leave the WL until after 8:00, so it didn't surprise us that there was already quite a few people at the gates. We only waited a few minutes before getting through to Hollywood Blvd. Here is the scene from that morning.

DHS2.jpg

This was taken as they were doing the opening show. The plan was for DH and the girls to ride ToT as I go and get FP for TSM. We hoofed it our separate ways. By the time I got to TSM the line for FP was pretty far back. I had to wait 15 minutes to get a FP. :scared1: I was glad that the line was organized and that there were lots of CM helping to control the crowd. I had time to admire all the new things in Pixar Place. I am impressed. I also saw my friend from school again, and this time we could talk for a few minutes. By the time I got up to the front of the FP line, my FPs were for 11:35-12:35. That wasn't too bad except we had a 12:15 ADR for 50's PTC.

I headed down Sunset Blvd to meet the family and ride RNRC. The wait was already 90 minutes, and we couldn't get a FP until after 11:00. What to do??:rolleyes1 We decided to ride the single rider line. Now, I am here to tell you, this is well worth it. We waited maybe 20 minutes all inside with air conditioning. If my kids were younger, I would not try this. However, with them being teens, I saw no problems. We were all seated with very nice people, and it's not like you really talk to anyone on this ride anyway. Our plan was DH goes first, then the girls, and then me. This way he is waiting at the exit to gather us all as we get off. The girls and I ended up in the same car anyway. :cool1: I really like this coaster. :cheer2:

We then headed to The Great Movie Ride. Because of all my Diser friends, I learned that there are actually 2 versions of this ride. DH and I decided that we had only seen the "Ganster" version. When we got to the front, DH asked the CM if we could see the "Bandits" version. She said no problem and sent us to the correct car. We were right; we had never seen this version. Pretty neat.

It was already very hot, so we decided to head to the Magic of Animation Tour. We missed the next show, by just a minute. So, we waited for the next one. We really like this attraction, both the movie and the hands-on stuff afterwards. The characters from UP were there as well as Mickey Mouse. Their lines were very long, so we didn't wait. We did however go to the computers where they tell you which character you are most like. DD 13 was Lady (from Lady and the Tramp) DH was Jiminy Cricket, and I was Belle. The funny part was that DD 16 turned out to be...

Animation.jpg

Yes, that's right the Queen of Hearts. We laughed so hard. :rotfl2: Even she thought that was pretty funny.

As we were puttering around who should come out but DH's favorite characters. We were one of the first ones in line.

Incredibles.jpg

As my DH walked up for the pic, Mr Incredible walked over to the podium, ripped off the insignia, and had DH hold it in front of him. It was very funny.

From here we got a FP for Star Tours and headed to 50's PTC. This is the 2nd time we have eaten here. We really like both the atmosphere and the food. The amazing thing is we had the same CM as 2 years ago. Brother Bob. That was neat. The smoothies here are good as are the desserts. I loved the fact that you can get a smoothie or shake as your drink on the dining plan. :cloud9: And you still get a dessert. :cool1:

After lunch, we headed to TSM to use our FP. The guy at the entrance thought it would be funny to tell me that we couldn't ride because the ticket had expired. We were past the return time. I almost passed out. He saw that I was about to explode and said, "No, I'm kidding go right ahead." This was not a good beginning to this ride, and it only gets worse. We headed through the line and was amazed by the amount of people waiting. We did not get to see Mr. PotatoHead because only those people in the stand-by line get to see him. We finally made it to the front of the FP line. The girls wanted to ride together, so DH and I sat behind them. On this ride a family of 4 sits back to back. After the "practice session" our car no longer worked. :scared1: We couldn't shoot no matter how hard we pulled. We finally got the girls' attention, and they were having the same problem. DH is now royally mad. Now, I don't know about you all, but when DH gets mad, I don't because I know he will take care of it. I just sat back to watch the show. Well, when we got to the end of the ride, DH told the CM that it didn't work. She seemed totally annoyed at US!!!!! Like we broke it !!!!!!!! They had us wait on the side until they could "work us in" to another car. At one point DH stepped forward to look at something and one CM yelled at him to stand against the wall. I mean YELLED. All the people in line got really quiet. I thought DH was going to say something, but he chose not to. Good choice. After a few minutes, we were loaded into another car and sent on out way. This time all worked fine. It was OK. Not worth the hassle at all. Will I ever ride this again? probably, because I love Disney and will always give them many chances to change my opinion.

We left TSM surprised that it doesn't leave you at a gift shop. On we went to Star Tours where we had a great time. This ride never disappoints. DH did his Chewbacca impersonation for everyone.

When we left ST the sky looked threatening. I was done with DHS for awhile, so we decided to head back to WL. DD16 wanted to stop at the Villian store to buy a T-shirt. While we were there Storm #2 began. And boy was it bad. We stood inside for about 45 minutes hoping it would pass. The thunder and lightening stopped, so we donned our $1.00 ponchos and headed for the busses. We got back to WL a little wet, but nothing too bad. We had had a late night the night before, I did some laundry, we ate at Roaring Fork, and called it an early evening. Overall a good day except for TSM.

Up Next EPCOT and Kim Possible!!

Wow, the picture of your girls on the treehouse is beautiful and the castle with the fireworks is breathtaking! Dole Whips=Yumm-O, but in the heat ours started melting before we even left the counter.:rotfl:

DH just came home from the store with Pinapple/Orange Juice. He thinks maybe it will taste like the float that he got at Merchant of Venus. We actually liked this better than the Dole Whip! I don't think so.:confused3

I'm a bit late to the party, but I made it:goodvibes I'm glad you enjoyed Mt. Vernon. Hello again!! We loved Mt. Vernon!
That MK day was surprisingly uncrowded. We did not have the same luck the following day at DHS.

Gosh, I can't believe what happened to you at TSM. That's crazy. We had good experiences there on our trip.

That's a great picture with the Incredibles!

Wow! I can't belive a CM yelled so loud that everyone else around you got quiet. That must have been really bad! How very un-Disney. Hopefully that won't ruin it for you in the future. It is a fun ride and hopefully you will go on it again and enjoy it.

I checked my journal for that day and it was a free day for us and we were going to hit DHS that afternoon/evening. We ended up not going due to that storm. It was another bad one!
