Dear Guest,

Thank you for your e-mail.

I am happy to answer your question regarding the 7-Night Western
Caribbean Cruise.

We are currently monitoring the reports of Swine Flu in Mexico. In
response to this situation, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) have recommended that travelers avoid non-essential
travel to Mexico.

Following this recommendation, Disney Cruise Line has modified the May
2nd Western Caribbean voyage of the Disney Magic to include a stop in
Nassau, The Bahamas, instead of Cozumel, Mexico.

At this time, no itinerary changes have been made to future Western
Caribbean voyages. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the
situation in Mexico and make future modifications as needed.

Please be assured, sanitation is always a priority at Disney Cruise Line
and we take measures to maintain the cleanliness of our ships every day
of the year. We follow the guidelines and procedures set forth by the
CDC.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!

Hi, y'all. Up for a minute (I work tonight and tomorrow) as the kids had early release from school and then I'm headed back to bed. Glad to see DCL made a decision. If we go to Nassau that will be pretty funny. We were booked on 3 day (kids sail free) and then switched to this when the Cat 12 deals came out. So we will end up getting to go where we were going plus 2 other stops. I have to admit, we weren't excited about Nassau (doesn't get the best reviews) and Atlantis is VERY expensive. We were going to stay on the ship that day, so I have a feeling we still may or just go to Pirate museum they have. I guess we'll just cancel the Cozumel Dolphin when we are 5 days out since so much could change between now and then (unless DCL makes a permanent Western change thru June). I'm still hoping they pick another option for future Western cruises (and just did Nassau next week since they were short on time for options).

This is so sad to here

FYI- Now stated that US. still does not offically have an American that has died from the flu.
The toddler that died was from Mexico and was with their family visiting a family in Brownsville, TX. Still very sad to here. Brownsville is a drive to Huston??

And unoffical report says they are hearing that Mexicans are trying to come into the U.S. for fear of getting sick and want the U.S. health care instead of the Mexican health care.

Jayde & I did the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau then walked around downtown. It was definitely an experience to remember but would have preferred to do the swim. Quite expensive as I recall. If we hit Nassau, I think we will just end up staying on the ship.

Stephanie ~ WE all will be disappointed if you & your family are not able to go but you need to do what it best for them!! Keeping you in our thoughts that you hear FANTABULOUS at the doctors.

Stephanie,

I still hold on to what I said in our PMs last night. Especially if they will go to Nassau now. The toddler wasn't American if that makes any difference either. Still praying for you!

Denise

I was thinking that too, that maybe it was so last minute- that's what they HAD to pick.

Stephanie, I agree with other posters. Good luck with making the best decision that is right for your family. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 We are thinking of you!!

Brownsville is about 300 miles from Houston. The toddler who died got sick while visiting relatives in Brownsville (a border town) around April 14th and was transferred to a hospital in Houston for higher level care. Not sure which hospital but I would bet it was Texas Childrens or another specialty pediatric center in the medical center. Dr. David Persse, Houston's EMS director and public health authority discussed it this morning on CNN. Houston gets lots of regular border crossings (legally and illegally) from Mexico. There are frequent buses (several a day) going to the border from Houston, as well as cars, so there is no way to contain it. I do feel very confident that Houston has one of the most aggressive EMS and public health systems and would activate what measures necessary if we reach a pandemic stage. I received my masters in ER/trauma nursing as well as my paramedic training here in Houston and got to work first hand with the EMS directors setting up and practicing major disaster drills of all varieties (mass trauma, biologic and chemical catastrophies). I practiced similar drills in the military too. Its all about being prepared. Lets hope that this virus peters out.

Do you think that there could be several sick people coming over here in hopes for better health care?? Do you think that is what happened here?

Yes, there is definitely that possiblity. I don't know what type of survellance they are doing at the border to keep out sick people. There are so many people who cross the border on a regular basis, including US citizens and citizens of Mexico who are here legally, but have family in Mexico. I have several friends that make the trip monthly to visit relatives. And many Americans go to Mexico from here for the cheaper prescriptions. So unless they completely close the borders, how will they keep out the sick, or even those who are not showing any symptoms yet but already have the virus.:confused3

Well I might be safer in Cozmuel, 9 cases now in Chicago area...:scared1:

When is your Dr. recommending that you get this? Does it matter if we had a Flu shot in the fall? Do we need another?
