6/13/2009 Western on Magic- Our Cruise Chat Continues!

I don't think we are meant to go on this cruise. 1st DH was furloughed from his job for a few weeks, then possible chicken pox exposure scare and now, we got news last night that DH's dad only has an estimated 2-4weeks to live. I know the doctors are not God and it could happen this week or 3 months from now but now we are in a terrible predicament. Of course, we didn't purchase the travel insurance until this week so it doesn't cover pre existing conditions. He has cancer and up until this week(yesterday) things were going smoothly and this wasn't expected to happen anytime soon. Apparently, it has spread to his brain and he has a massive tumor putting pressure on his heart. The first words out of his mouth when he saw DH was that we had better not even consider canceling our cruise. He says he will be very pissed at us if we do. DH and I don't think we would be able to live with ourselves if something happens while we're gone. How could we have fun knowing what is going on at home? DH can not change his vacation time, it's take it or leave it and even if by some miracle DCL would apply what we've paid to another cruise, we would have to come up with thousands extra since we booked the really excellent category 12 deal. This isn't possible and this deal was the only way we will ever be able to justify a Disney cruise. Sorry if I've dampened anyone's mood, this really sucks. Cancer sucks.

I am so sorry this is happening....Last year we were so excited about our cruise and our mom passed away before it and it was a big decision to make whether or not to go. Calling to tell Disney and the Airline was so hard for me...We left it up to our Father about all (17)of us going and He said Momma would have killed us for sure if we had not went so we did go and there were some hard moments but we did do a little private memorial for her at Castaway Cay. Being able to smile on that cruise was a healing process that we needed since we lost Mom so unexpectedly. Just do what feels right in your heart and your husband as well. Your family is in my prayers!

I am so sorry. His work won't let him change even under the circumstances? Not very understanding. Can you push the date pretty far out and then replan-or is it too late to do anything like that? It would be hard to go and have something happen and with it so hard to call home, not even easy to keep in touch. What a terrible circumstance.

Will you wait to see how things go? My thought and prayers are with you because it is not an easy situation.

Good Morning Everyone! I need to get a checklist together for packing. Does anyone by chance have one? This is the last week of school. DD has finals Mon-Thurs. She just finished a week of marching band clinic after school and her legs are killing her! Guess you use different muscles with all that flex/point for marching! :lmao: DS is going to Six Flags for the day with the school band trip. DH is up in Alaska bear hunting. He went to fill in for another pediatric dentist in Fairbanks this past week and he always ties in a hunting trip with it. I just didn't know it was for bear this time!:scared1:
DS did though. How come the wife is always the last to know?:confused3:rotfl:
I've been working out now for 4 weeks on the Wii fit and riding my stationary bike, and watching what I eat. Have lost 10 lb so far. :yay: Now if the swelling in my face and neck would go away, it might show! :rotfl2:

To pixidustaholic: I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. Cancer does suck. I hope everything works out for you.

OMG I am so excited to read your post hehehe.... It is funny when you read about someone doing things the same or going to be doing them...hehe... So Layne as I said before I think is also getting ready for his first year of Marching Band and WOW do they have a busy schedule. He is also getting ready for the 8th grade social TONIGHT and I took him to get his hair cut yesterday and he also got a new dress shirt and pants(can be used for cruise:laughing: lol)
My DH Rob just went Boar hunting for the first time this year:confused3Never do I understand the excitement in these things!

Ohhh. I totally missed the messages about the DIS family swap. Sounds like fun. What kind of price point are we talking about and ideas???

You be the judge of that....It is all in fun:banana: I would think around 20 dollars but if you are into spending have at it:lmao:.....
But really whatever you are comfortable with and please feel like you are one of us being late to join is no biggie (I checked out your post on main thread) Everything done as a group is for fun fun fun and it always feels awesome strolling along the deck and running into DIS Peeps....:woohoo:

GUESS WHAT HAPPY SATURDAY MORNING NOW GET TO PACKING PEEPS!!!!!!!!!

I wish DD had some type of formal for 8th grade graduation. They did have their end of year celebration at a ranch that included swimming and canoeing this past Thursday. They were even allowed to wear 2 piece bathing suits. :scared1: DD is very fair skinned and even wearing a 70, she still managed to get sunburned cheeks. A few weeks ago on her band trip, she got really sunburned on her face and legs. (she brought sunblock with her - somehow it never made it on her body!) Now she's not allowed out ot the house without slathering on the sunblock first!
I took DS to our local seamstress to get his suit tailored. He's going to wear his band formal (tuxedo pants, shirt, cumberbund and black bow tie for formal night. DH bought him a jacket to go with it from JC Penny. So he puts it on and says it doesn't fit like the one that James Bond wears. :rotfl2: He and DH are big 007 fans! Can't wait to see it after its tailored! :cool1:

Good morning Ladies :surfweb: (and any gents who happen to pass by and say "are you on that thing again?)

I worked from home yesterday and saw all of the kids coming out of school (when I went to pick up DD & BFF) after their 8th grade "formal." Funny to see kids leaving school in fancy dresses and suitpants at 3 in the afternoon, but our school won't allow evening dances because of possible kanoodling (which the 8th graders do in the hallways if you ask DD).

On the Bear/Boar hunting..eek.. but I am 1/2way through Twilight (which DD got me for Mother's Day) and am reminded of the character who bear hunts... :rolleyes1 Might have to rent the movie after I finish the book to really try to "get" what the kids see in this.

I have to say that I don't "get" the hunting thing and don't understand the primal nature of it... So this week, while I was idling away time at softball practice the other night (where I spend many hours a week idling) some of the Dad's were discussing how to deal with Water Moccassins while you fish. One guy squarely instructed on the proper use of a .22 to take down a poisonous snake so that your fishing day is not ruined. I SWEAR it was like a scene from Deliverance. And this is in Metro Orlando!!!! I can't imagine if we were really in the Florida boonies (and there are plenty of those!!) If it's not critters its men who like to hunt critters.

Ok, in no particular order:

Deb: yes, Vodka goes with everything and rum goes with everything fruity.

Denise: va-va-va voom and I wish I could find a fabulous dress like that for such a bargain. (red is not my color as a blonde, but it does make the boys CRAZY and I have had many a man -- back in the day -- buy me "red" things, mostly lacy, of course. Ok, not many, but a few? some?)

Taina: big big congrats on losing 10lbs!!! let's give that a :thumbsup2

Diane: all still looks good for a June 13th launch!

ruley 3: you don't need passports (yet) so no flames from here. Was trying to convince my sister that she could, indeed, book a closed loop cruise without one and she is chosing not to vacation instead.

Holley: :banana::banana:

and for the serious stuff

Pixiedustaholic: so sorry  Please make the right decision for your family. I completely understand your FIL's stance of wanting you to go on your trip - I am 100% like that (stubborn). Maybe you could call DCL/your TA NOW to see what the options are and how they might apply the credit (maybe they could reassign a CABIN not $$ credit to a future sailing).

Off to a softball tournament today. 2 weeks from today we'll be gearing up to go to the Port. DD said in the car last night, "holy #### (expletive deleted) I better start packing!" It was as if she just registered that we were going !!!

I don't get the hunting thing either, although lots of women here in Texas hunt. And many carry guns. When I was a nurse, the conversation came up and I was suprised how many other nurses had a concealed weapons. It seems to be more the norm than the exception. In MD (my home state), it wasn't the norm.
DH tried to get DD into hunting when she was around 8. He bought her all this camoflauge clothing. I remember her putting it on and primping in the mirror and I knew then and there she was more into fashion than hunting! :rotfl: So now the boys spend many weekends at a hunting ranch in South Texas and DD and I go on our shopping hunts for bargains! :rotfl2:

Good morning all!!! :wave2:

Just trying to stay in the loop here!!! I am getting crazy excited about our trip but so nervous about packing!!! Too much going on in the last week of school!!! I want school to be OVER!!! I am so done with 3rd and 8th grades!!!! :headache:

Megan has 8th grade graduation this week and just went to 6 Flags for her band trip too! So many of our kids are doing the same things!! Her Marching band for high school doesn't start until August, thank goodness!! We need a break from everything!!!

We are off to Evan's baseball game and then to a Cubs game!! :cool1: Go Cubbies!! But I should be home finishing up my FE gifts...oh well, there's always tomorrow!!! I am planning to send a box or 2 ahead to our hotel so everything needs to be done by a week from Monday...surely I can be done by then!!

You guys are killing me with all the talk about blender drinks....I want one NOW!!! (OK, so it's only 8:30 am!)

Hope all of you have a great weekend!!!! SEE YOU soon!!!!

:cool1::cool1::cool1::banana::banana::banana:: :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Pixiedustaholic - so sorry to hear about what is going on in your family... to all of you. Take care.

Packing ~ whats that?!?! I am starting to get into panic/paranoid mode that I will forget something or my FEs are not enough (I have to just say NO). This is that last weekend that we have free until the cruise. But still have many things to do: laundry (oh wait we always have laundry), Jayde is re-taking her road test, we will probably go to lunch, & then STANLEY CUPS FINALS TONIGHT!!!

Next weekend, we have Relay for Life on Sat & Sun. We are doing it at a high school by where her Jayde's father lives & I asked if I should let him know we are going to be there I see if he wanted to come see her (they haven't seen each other since Dec 2000 & have been in contact (very rarely) only in the last 2 years. She said No... he can wait until he receives my high school announcement.

**If you just recently joined & would like an FE gift for your kids ~ Please PM me so I can add them to my list. I am losing track of room #'s. Thanks*

Hi everyone!

Just checking in.

Life is still crazy so not much time for the boards.

Both the girls medical conditions have been getting worse. Due to that the Marine Corps has decided to keep us here in SoCal instead of moving us to VA. OH BOY does that change EVERYTHING!!!

We have no where to live, I have no idea what schools to register the girls for, things are a MESS!!! I am so thankful to be staying here for the girls doctors but I am at ground zero and no time to fix everything that needs fixing!!! Even though we would be staying in SoCal we are still renting out our house starting July 15th. We live about 1 1/2 hours from their docs now and where DH would be working. We have to move closer for everyone's sake plus my renters will kill me if they don't get to rent our house. They are so looking forward to it.

Picking up the pieces!!!!

I can't wait to meet all of you!!! We leave in 11 days!!!!

For this reason I am super excited to have a girl now after being over run by all the boys in my house!!!!! If I lived closer to DSIS then all would be good for shopping but We do shop together on the phone on the internet:lmao:
... You must try it!!!;)

Well no passports are going with us....Don't be shocked and I don't want to debate:laughing:

Oh - I didn't mean for a debate - I just wanted to remind everyone to bring their identification info so they will not be turned away. I forgot to add it to my list and didn't want anyone else to forget too. Sorry, it's the mother hen in me. Have a great Saturday!!! :goodvibes

I know it is a change but I am excited for you to keep your current medical team! I don't think I would be able to leave this area now that we have experienced such good medical facilities:3dglasses You will find a fabulous place to live and all will be ok!!!:thumbsup2
