5th park announced today on ME bus.

First I want to say I'm not big on the rumor mill myself, but I did meet a really nice young lady who is part of the College Program yesterday at a 4th of July party. I don't know if she was lying, but I highly doubt it. She said they have printed in the cast member newsletter that a 5th park is to be open. It goes back to the Villains theme (with large coasters and thrill rides) which I told her I had heard that one before. She swears that it's going to happen and be finished by 2009. I told her I didn't believe there was any way possible to build a park in that short of time frame if they haven't started already (in a very nice way), but she insisted it was going to happen. I can't stress enough this is a very nice girl who loves her job at Disney as one of the Princesses.

Now I'm writing this for two reasons. One is because I don't believe it's going to happen, at least not in that kind of time frame. And two, if it is true I'll be able to come back to this thread in my history and be able to say I was one of the early ones who was told.

I could only hope what she was describing would be true, but I just don't see it happening anytime in the near future.

Sorry I read every Cast newsletter religiously and nothing of the sort has ever been printed.

Like I said Vemnox, I really couldn't say one way or another. I have no idea for sure what she was referring to as a cast member newsletter. And, I could only hope what she described would come to fruition.

Since you read the newsletters religiously, is there anything in there that you can share with the board that might be coming up soon? It's always interesting getting the perspective of someone who may be more in the know.

Speaking of new things opening, what's the scoop on Pop Century's other resort "Golden Years" or something like that? We haven't been past POP in either of our last 2 trips, so we're curious if that's slated to open anytime soon?

Define "soon."

;)

No, not soon.

Yes, but have you been reading the Fictitious Cast Member Newlestter religiously? No, so there's your problem! ;)

I, too, LOVE the Disney urban legends... Don't spend too much time on the buses (takes too long - always get a car!), but occasionally we ride them at Fort Wilderness (to the back of the joint) or just chat with random 'worker bee' CM's out and about picking things up or 'guarding' ride entrances when they're down. It's fun to chat with the CP workers - I think I'm still young until I talk to them and they're 1/2 my age!!! They're always good to share the old stories with, like when you used to need tickets to go on rides and when there was actually a Sky Ride through the park! Ahh, the good ole days... :rotfl2:

Anyway, don't beat up on folks for listening to the bus drivers... They look like Disney and sound more like Disney than most actual Disney CM's do nowadays (as the ride operator at Space Mountain scowls at me, but the bus driver smiles and chats it up!). You'd be surprised how knowledgable some of these guys are about the area!

Actually, there is a Harry Potter Park that will be opening in 2009 in Florida but it is with Universal, not WDW. That's the only thing close that I can think of. And that is confirmed information BTW....

:lmao:
Any idea when "Golden Years" or "Golden Ages" or whatever it's supposed to be called will open? :confused3

"Golden YEARS" (think "Wonder Years, just don't SAY it.)

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Some say not for a very long time, as the problems with STAFFING more resort accommodations are getting tough.

But its Disney.

They could be announcing its eminent premiere right this minute, for all I know.

popcorn:: I don't care if it was a rumor or not, I have so enjoyed reading this thread. What a lot of fun and pixie dust. Just the speculation alone of a 5th park is worth dreaming about. And just the ideas and thinking that sparks from what I consider to be a harmless, fun rumor. It has got me thinking of what I would like to see at park number 5....

You know, that's really a shame that they've put the buildings up, invested all the time, money and energy only to have them sit there! Wouldn't you agree that what was put into them would've been better spent elsewhere?

Anyway, why bother starting in at AK w/the new DVC if they can't make a go at Golden Years? Won't they have the same problem w/staffing that? Why not make a "less expensive" DVC using the Golden Years? Get that finished and open before starting a new project? OK -- don't blast me over that b/c I don't know much about DVC's so I don't know if that would even work -- but hey ... it's a thought!

The problem with the other section at Pop is that construction was halted in 2001 due to 9/11. While the buildings were sitting there, they suffered quite a bit of hurricane damage. At this point, it would be easier to tear them down and start over than fix what has been damaged. However, Disney seems to be putting priority on building more DVC resorts, rather than value rooms. It makes sense financially for them to do that, of course- think of how many rooms you have to sell at a value resort to equal one $16,000 dvc membership!

Bus drivers are right up there as far as accuracy with Jim Hill and predictions made by talking monkeys ;)

No way. Disney is not going to build another park when they can keep updating there current parks with new and updated rides. :)

1) Why do all of you mistrust the word of a MEARS driver?
2) He was right about the 5th Gate.
3) I heard they plan a new entrance/exit road.
4) A "5th Gate".

For a park to open in 2009, it would have to be well into construction by now.

But it's an all underground park you see. Didn't the bus driver mention that? That's why they can keep it such a secret!;)  ;)

I have to say, I've really enjoyed this thread. All of these rumors are news to me. I'm looking forward to seeing more "news" here.:lmao:
