5th park announced today on ME bus.

I would think that if that were the case you would see construction going on somewhere on the grounds. I think he was just being funny.

New chain of command in Disney Operations Announced:

1.President - Walt Disney World Resort
2.Mears bus driver.
3.Vice President - Walt Disney World Resort.
4.President - Walt Disney Imagineering

And so on and so forth.

:rotfl2:

Logically speaking...anyone remember exactly how long it took to complete EE, from dirt to opening?? More than 2 yrs if I remember correctly. No way are they going to open a new park in two years. Perhaps they are going to break ground for a new park in '09...a more 'extreme' park would be a terrific idea for the teens/thrill seekers.
Monorail through to Disney Studios?? Way too expensive to do that..don't think you'll see that happen anytime soon, if ever.

I hope so but who knows what it will be like? Knowing Disney it'll be more family oriented, we'll see. :)

Disney could not even begin to staff a 5th gate. Why do you think half of Pop Century is sitting in dirt? They can't staff it. That's the same reason they are starting to outsource some of the higher-tier resorts (a la Four Seasons incoming) and why the Western Beltway is getting developed. They simply are not able to staff things right now nor in the forseeable future.

Of course WE all know about Disney bus drivers spreading false rumors and misinformation and can laugh about it.
There are so many people that accept it as gospel fact though.

With all the confusion that already exists in the general public about Walt Disney World (Which one is in Calfiornia/Florida, looking for the Shrek ride at MGM, even not knowing when the 3 o'clock parade starts...) it just is irritating to me that there are people out there spreading mistruths about Disney on purpose for their own amusement.

I guess we'll always have things to talk about here on the boards.....

2009 is when the Harry Potter park section opens at Universal. On way can they open a park in 18 months.

Too bad there isn't a bullet train straight from the airport to all 4 parks. Resort check in is handled directly on the train and luggage valets deliver your luggage to your room. Can you imagine walking into MK 30 minutes after touching down. That's a lot of pixie dust.:lmao:

It could have happened that way almost when WDW was being built, they planned an airport on property with direct monorail access to the City of EPCOT and MK

So the person heard a rumor from a bus driver. No reason to slam him or her.

That is soooo hysterical!! I almost fell off my chair laughing!!!!!! :lmao:

There is a landing strip on WDW property and that was for Walt's plane. I don't think there were plans to use it as a commercial landing strip/airport.

BTW, I didn't know EPCOT was a city. :confused3

Wasn't there a 5th park in the works before 9/11? I had heard it was pretty far in the planning stages, and put on hold because of 9/11. Maybe they are thinking of working on that again? Wish I could remember where I heard that, so I could look it up... :confused3

Yeah, I heard that from a bag-checker at the airport who looked like he was in-the-know.

Since Disney is unable to fully staff their parks/resorts in Florida, why will Four Seasons be able to do any better? Don't both companies have to employ people from the same labor pool?

agnes!

On a related subject, ever notice that block of rooms at Dolphin with all dark windows? On our Illuminations Cruise in March 1999 the cruise captain told us, with a straight face, that the monorail was going to be extended from MCO to WDW and it would pass right through that area in Dolphin with a stop in the building. Any word on when that's gonna happen?

No, there were plans for a commercial airport for Disney itself, plus the ORIGINAL EPCOT plan was a city, nothing like the theme park we have now.

waltopia.com has the original florida film describing it all from Walt himself

Yep. That one made the "purple pants" rounds for years.

I wonder if the new pre-recorded "Magic in Motion" bus spiels will have these kinds of Disney "urban legends" in them... hummm?

I never said they would. But Disney makes it "not their problem" when they send it over to 4 Seasons but still reaps the benefits of the additional guests. It's win/win.

I heard this from a slightly more reliable source, or wouldn't have bothered to repeat it. But, of course, your smart @ss attitude is such a pleasure! ;) Possibly the OP is refering to the Western Beltway property? That has been started, at least in the clearing process. When is it scheduled to open?

As for the section of the Dolphin, that is an architechural design element that was used in several of the designers hotels at that time, in several places around the country. It was never intended to be part of the monorail. And my source was either Travel or History channel special on Disney.

I don't care if the bus drivers spread rumors, I love to hear them.

Listening to the bus drivers was one of the highlights of our early trips. Our last 2 trips, all of the bus drivers never said a word other than hello. It made the bus trip mundane.

The bus drivers are a big part of our WDW experience. I really missed the interaction, even the corny jokes. I hope the bus drivers are allowed to interact with guests. We learned some fun tips from them in the past.
