5K on Castaway Cay

My husband did this last week on our Eastern, you just meet at the dock when they start letting passangers off- 9:30 am they'll have water stations set up- no cost no need to sign up in advance- when you finish you give them your name and stateroom # and you'll get a certificate- DH gave them the wrong cabin # so he didn't get his - it is very very hot - about a dozen people partispated he said.

Did he happen to say how long it took him and whether all the group were proper runners or if there were joggers amongst them. I really want to do this but I am not a wonderful athlete, I am a competant jogger so I could do it, just not at great speed!

It is not a race by any means and all types can run it, jog it, walk it, they're were two" runners" in his group that finished fast,he is a middle of the pack runner- don't know his time but he avgs 25 min for a 5k I think. Grandpa and Grandson that just ran 1/2 the course.

We had both walkers and runners in our group in March - about a dozen all together. We also were given a 3-mile loop and 4.5-mile loop to choose from. It is a great way to start the day!

When I did it in October, there were only three of us. I am not a terrific runner at all. I usually run about 13 minutes a mile. But that day I stepped it up so that I could keep up with them. It was an awesome experience! We were just finishing up and heading back to the ship as everyone was coming ashore. They took my picture with Jay and then I got the certificate later. As a sort-of-runner, I can say it was one of my most exciting running experiences ever! Just something cool about knowing I ran a 5K on Castaway Cay when no one else was there.

Thanks for the info. A few of us on our Cruise Meets thread are planning on doing this. What we wondered as well was whether the course was flat or hilly?!

I believe that it was completely flat. It was across some sidewalks, down some bike paths, and out the island "runway". I don't remember the least bit of hills at all. But also not much shade!
