50's Prime Time Cafe

It's a must-do for us as well. This year, instead of dinner, we did lunch. It was really good!!!

Our server wasn't hardcore, but he was good. We've had some really, really good servers in the past!!!

Can you get a milkshake and it count as your dessert if you are on the dining plan?

The Prime Time Cafe used to be a must for me for every trip. While the food is a bit too exotic for me I liked the atmosphere and the interaction with the waiters.

However, on our last two trips there was basically no show at all, not only at our table but all the tables around us, it was just as in any restaurant, just with a bit of funny decoration. I was really disappointed. I had told our guests how much fun that restaurant was and how they would spoon feed you if you don't finish etc. and nothing of this happened.

So I will take a break for a while and try other restaurants instead.

Shakes can be counted as either a dessert or a beverage, but I do NOT suggest getting one as your beverage because you will still get dessert. In the past, what my girlfriend and I have done while on the DDP is that for dessert we split a strawberry shake and s'mores... one of the best ways to end a meal.... awesome.

Not sure if that's true in all restaurants, but at Whispering Canyon Cafe I could order a milkshake as a beverage and after that they asked which soda I wanted for refill, as there are no refills on milkshakes.

Place is great not only is the food really good but the CM are so interactive with everybody. It really makes eating enjoyable. My 7 yr old is always on the lookout for our server to make sure he has his elbows off the table.

Ok..so I just booked a ressie there. I know its connected to Hollywood & Vine and have only got to "peak" in the door.

How is it? Really?

LOVE IT!! Food the kids'll eat, LOVE the waiter inter-action, and of course the PEANUT BUTTER and JELLY milkshake:worship: You have to try this - to delish. Last year was our first year going to 50's and it was added to our must-do regulars now!:rotfl: Be there in under 20 days:yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo:

is of my wife at 50's with her nose against the wall trying to keep a spoon from falling....she made the mistake of getting caught shooting spitballs at me.....bad girl....bad bad girl....

Super fun and I thought the fried chicken and desserts were yum!
Great time, would go again! :)

I really like 50s Primetime. It is one of our favorites at DHS, I like the atmosphere, and it is nice to have "comfort food" like fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf - stuff I don't make at home, so a real treat!

My son and my niece really enjoy the banter with the waiters.

As far as the food, we've had some good meals here and not so good.

I can recommend the pot roast, stacked sandwich, and the milkshakes.

We loved it, one of our favorite meals. It had so much fun and character that we have booked it again for our next trip. Wouldn't miss it.

Yep.... I too had to stand with my nose to the wall for "tattling." Lets just say that I thought I would get my friend in trouble but it backfired bigtime!!! Mom made me apologize to the whole section. Bad bad girl!!!!

I had a decent meal there, and the service was fine. But maybe you have to do something extra special to get all this interaction people talk about. I did end up being a member of the "clean plate club" with a sticker to prove it. I might have liked being sent to a corner for being sassy or something. Just didn't happen.

We were two adult men who arrived with a couple and their younger children, but weren't seated together. Maybe it would have helped were seated together. We requested that, but they couldn't honor it for some reason.

I always make a reservation for 50's Prime Time Cafe and end up canceling it, because I worry that the "show" might be to much for my Dad. My Dad would not stand for anyone trying to spoon feed him, put him in a corner, make him balance a spoon on his nose, etc., and though he wouldn't say anything while in the restaurant, I'd hear about it afterwards for taking him there if those kinds of things happened. He just wouldn't be comfortable with that much interaction, we are going to WDW again next year and I really want to try for reservations again and just hope that things go smoothly. Maybe I will have to mention to every staff member who comes in contact with us to back off on the antics and we will be okay.

If you've asked for less interaction from the staff, what do you say to them? I'd feel bad since that's their job and their normal routine, but I also don't want anyone in our party to feel uncomfortable either. I worry that if I spoke to the waitress and said "so-and-so isn't really in the mood for a lot of antics today, maybe you could go easy on that..." that they might actually go the opposite way and tease more.

I'm worried about the exact same things. We have ADRs there in 2 weeks and my kids (3,7) are pretty shy. I'm worried that it will be over the top and they'll be embarassed and uncomfortable. Going to try it - hope it's okay!

We love it too, the pot roast and fried chicken are our favorites. Also the fried boursin cheese is a great appitizer.
You hit my favorites! I've found that the interaction from the wait staff varies from day to day! I'ts one meal, even if you have shy ones and don't enjoy the experience, I doubt it will mark them for life, just make sure to eat those green beans or take them home in your pockets! :rotfl:

DH and I are also big fans of 50's Prime Time! We go almost every trip. I get the pot roast almost every time and a huge chocolate milkshake. A true milkshake made the old fashioned way and you get the metal contain to pour the rest into your glass later. Yum! Enjoy!

ETA: We've had waiter/waitresses who really were into character, and a couple that were just good servers. With seating the way it is, you can enjoy the antics at the other tables if you've got a "dud" server. So, the experience if fun no matter what!

We eat there every trip at least two times. Some waiters really get into the act others don't it's no big deal to us, we just absolutely love the atmosphere. Several trips ago before my son became a little more open to things (autism) the waiter tried to engage him and I subtly hinted it was'nt a great idea and he took my cue and was still so charming and polite to my son. I never forget the courtesy he showed him.

I've heard that it's a really fun restaurant and that it depends on your server whether or not you get all the fun stuff. I want to get a reservation there, but I am just not sure how it will go with my Dad if he is there. I'm not sure if he'd enjoy doing anything in case we get a fun server. My brother is EXTREMELY social, so he wouldn't have a problem with it. My dad loves to mess around with us at home, and I don't see why he would mind it at Disney World. Is it worth a go, especially with my dad?
