...No they don't have them, but I was wondering:

If Disney offered to DVC Members ONLY the option of purchasing a non-transferable pass to go along with your DVC- one that was good for all existing parks at the time of your purchase, but no auxiliaries; would you be interested in purchasing it? At what price?

And let's say that you are allowed to purchase for you and your dependants only, and yes you can add a pro-rated pass should you have another child.

Just a thought that ran through my head......:D

I guess the price paid would depend on if it could be willed to survivors. I would hate to buy a pass and - whoop-sie - leave the planet next year. Not like real estate that you can pass on. So that whole non-transferable clause on the tickets would need to be very clear.

:p

Drat! I tried to think of everything....yes, let's say it can be willed to a family member upon the untimely demise of the DVC member. (I consider going before my DVC points expire "untimely" imho) ;)

Annie

I think your idea is excellent. Any chance during your
honeymoon

next week in WDW you can meet with the head of DVC and present this idea to him. ::yes::

I wonder what they would charge for something like this! I wish they would offer an extended AP. If you could purchase perhaps a 5-yr, 10-yr, etc. AP that would be a great idea. I would consider it. Annmarie

Annie,

First off, Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! You probably can't wait:p

I would love to have some type of passes offered. However, personally, I think Disney knows that they don't have to offer anything as long as DVC pts are selling well.

Sorry, Nick---that would require leaving the room! ;) :D

The original DVC'ers used to get passes for free, but this ended around the end of the '90's.

I would definately pay for a 50-year pass. I think it would have to be reasonable. Let's look at it this way. DVC people are the folks who patronize WDW year-after-year. Not just once every 5 or 10 years. Everytime we go we spend a lot of $$$$. So, by providing the passes they sell even more timeshare points and make the money back many times over. :cool2:

no offense but i think disney is too smart too do somehting like that...dvc is such a small part of the big mega corporation Disney....they know we are coming with or without long term passes..that is why they sell the vacation club so they dont have to worry about selling passes long term...damn farve just threw an interception in ot..........

DVC did offer a custom 4 year park hopper plus but it wasn't very popular. You got a 5 day park hopper plus for 4 of the next 5 years for $749 (adult or child). You had to use the 5 days by the end of each year term (I assume based on the date you bought it) or you lost them, no carry over. 2 plus options per year. It was called a Magical Years Pass. They proudly announced this "wonderful" new pass at the 2000 annual meeting when the topic of pass discounts came up. I heard it was later dropped due to poor sales.....

I'm going to take a stab at valuing this thing (to show that it will be cost prohibitive, I expect). Don't jump on me, since this will just be one of lots of ways to do the math and I am trying to do it in the extreme. Since a studio at OKW is 8 points on weekdays in the lowest season and since four people can fit into a studio and since $40 per day is a great price for a park hopper pass these days, one could argue that it should be priced at $20 per point per year (4 X $40 is $160 divided by the 8 points per night). So, for 150 points that would be a price calculated at $3000 per year or $150,000 or $37,500 per pass. Alternatively, since the breakeven point for annual passes has typically been about 8 days, one could just base it on $320 per person (or whatever the current annual pass rate is) per year. This would work out to $16,000 per pass for 50 years. Hmmm.....I think I will buy my park hoppers and take my chances at those prices (though that might be dumb in the long run!)

Hmm... or, someone could lock in the current AP rate for the next 50 years by purchasing 50 AP vouchers... Or, 25 AP vouchers--from which you could get 50 years worth of visits, if you could work the timing out.... (25 regular AP vouchers would be $334.41 X 25 = $8360.25 would be enough to cover 1 person)
year 1 activate voucher #1
year 2 50 weeks after year 1's visit--use the same pass from voucher #1
year 3 activate voucher #2
year 4 50 weeks after year 3's visit use same pass from voucher #2

and so on...
The cool thing about the vouchers are they are completely portable, too.

(This scheme wouldn't work if you go to WDW 4 times a year every year, though :) ).

..and of course, there is the problem if they add additional parks.
