50 Enhancements across WDW for the 50th

I'm sorry if I was too harsh...that isn't the intent...

But you cannot detach disneys desire to turn WDW into a pure profit machine In any addition discussion...it's impossible.

Believe it or not (firsthand)...it is different now. Not with espn closing up quickly...it is about money first and foremost...

...and the way to beat that is for the consumer to become less willing/trusting.
No no you made some great points. I just think there is reason to be hopeful! However I will admit that my Disney obsession is more recent and I'm just excited for any sort of celebration and excuse to visit.

Deep down...we all do...even "haters" like me (which isn't anywhere close to the truth)...

But you made another point...that is the WDW customer. It's about making the pilgrimage and trying to escape far more than the driving Disneyland clientele that can take it or leave it/lodge protests more. It works against us.

I'm more inclined to believe you than new countries in the showcase...a 30 year hoax at this point.

Especially Spain...which is still in financial straights and Disney has Never been about going it alone.

Greece next?

Is that even relevant anymore? I truly can't believe that even the most white-out addled bean-counter at Burbank still thinks that the sponsorship model is a viable revenue stream. That ship has sailed. If they build a land at the showcase they're doing it because a) they can tie it into IP and b) they can move food/merch. Spain makes no sense to me personally, but not because Madrid is not going to be footing the bill.

I agree with you...the sponsorship model IS dead...
...but since it is Disney would be taking on Heafty overhead alone and they aren't inclined to at all...therefore there will never be a country again...

How could they even build a fantasyland and justify the operational cost? It will still be wedge among 11 "boring" countries - sorry, 10 and snowflake land - that modern day brats (talking gen y parents) can't be bothered with?

As I posted on another thread, Gigantic is to be set in Spain so maybe not all that unexpected??

Well as a cusp generation baby from '93 I would just like to point out that most of the people in my age group love Epcot. It may have skipped a generation but there is definitely still love for it! And man I hope they do Greece so even though that was sarcasm...

That's good to hear...

Because we have seen some notable sniveling/whin-o about Epcot from the 20-something set around here recently...which only leaves the conclusion that they don't get the theme/concept at all...

Drinking helps with that - in my experience.

I would love that for Soarin as well
That was the biggest missed opportunity for around the world. Heard somewhere it wasn't possible with the IMAX projectors or the programming of the simulators, but still there was so much left out

Drinking around the world is a BIG draw but the only complaints I get from my friends is there isn't enough to do. The future world rides weren't up to their standards (very fair) and they enjoyed the park much better during food and wine festival

Just off the top of my head;

Space Mountain needs a lot of love; like out of commission for 14 months lots of love
BTMRR; update the ride to match the other parks
Haunted Mansion; Hat-box ghost
Stitch; replace
Tomorrowland Speedway; replace or update
New Fantasyland dark-ride
New ride in Adventureland/Frontierland
Please do something with the Imagination Pavilion
Wonders of Life remodel and reopen
Communicore to the rescue with updated attractions/exhibits/experiences
Updates to Nemo and Friends
Update to Spaceship Earth
New convention centre/show building in Epcot to allow for a previous wish
Do something with Universe of Energy
Rat ride in France
Pinocchio dark ride in Italy
One more ride/attraction in WS
Update the films in China, France and Canada
Make the Yeti great again
Australia section added to Animal Kingdom
Wreck-it-Ralph ride in DHS
3rd new land in DHS (the rumored phase 3)
Update R'n'R
Update Great Movie Ride
A new value, moderate and deluxe resort; I know they want to change the resort system but still new places to stay that are at everyone's budget

Now if I thought Disney was willing to spend DCA level money

A new land in MK celebrating the villains. I'm in the fill the current 4 parks, don't spread out to build a 5th.

I think all of this is the LEAST they can do after the mega-event they put on for DL's 50th. Did anyone here attend the big day for that? Although some of it was throughout the year, there were speakers, special guests, the governor-to whom they presented a gold motorcycle (the reason escapes me). DS was there as one of the musicians that day and he told me about it-it was quite an event and no doubt, not inexpensive for Disney to put on.

They will but it will be DVC exclusive......

I know it won't happen but it just feels like there is more time spent loading, going up the hill, and unloading then riding on the ride.

For my family the favorite thing is to go on kali when it is cooler out and play "wheel of wet" to see who ends up on the low side when you go down the hill.

It was always me, which is why I never ride it anymore. Had to wring my clothes out in the bathroom too many times for it to be fun anymore.

Respectfully, you're falling for the carrot...

That's 4 years away, it takes them FOREVER to do anything these days...and all those "insiders" throw out a lot of wishful thinking then later back it off and say "budget cuts"

Budget cuts are web code for "we heard it, got all excited when we shouldn't have...and said it to look so bright later"

That's why I plead with everyone to wait for ground breaking. The next thing at WDW should be the Caribbean thing...and a serious ramp up at studios or that ain't making "the 50th"

As long as everyone keeps going...there's no reason to for them to push anything.
I get you are pessimistic, and I also get why. OF all the things listed, will they all happen. I agree no.
Where you and I disagree is the fact that SOME changes will happen.

Like it or not, believe it or not, there seems to be some significant movement that the US parks need love, and that they are now not focused as much outside the US. Lets be honest, I can't count how many threads are here and other sites dogging Disney for not up-keeping the US parks, and adding to them.

Guess what, I think we have finally hit that mark.

Of the changes we now know, they show me that they are back to willing to invest in the US....
DHS total basic restage - adding SWE and TSL(although, there is some discussion going on now, that says in 5-10 years this will go away for more SWL expansion...), Mickey ride in GMR
Epcot - UoE new ride(GotG), France add - Rat is almost a sure thing, BatB still outside shot, one new WS pavillion, plussing to: SSE, Seas, Land, Innovations, TestTrack and spine from FW to WS
AK - Pandora, RoL
MK - Restaging TL - subtract of Stitch, new last scene to CoP, Painting and revamping over all, Speedway???? , also significant rumor of add to Frontierland at some point(not guaranteed for 50th).
Gondola transportation
New Star Wars resort
New adds to resorts

Now, do I think all of this will get done. Probably not. Of all that listed above, that isn't all that is rumored to happen. So I think we can expect some significant movement for the next 4-5 years, I for one am superexcited.

But.....
There will always be those things that were to be built that aren't. Martin talks of making a list once this is all over with to compare what was to be, vs. what was.

New rumors have popped up so it's time we start a thread discussing the possibilities for the WDW 50th anniversary.

Just said Spirit/WDW1974 said the plan is to plus/enhance 50 attractions/rides/shows/etc. across WDW property.

A few possibilities....

BTMRR getting the ending enhancements that DL and now DLP got.

I really want a BTMRR ride photo :(

I agree with this part. I believe, and it's my opinion, that our current presidential administration has made some international travelers nervous and we may see a decline in tourism to the US, so focusing on domestic money makes sense.
