I called Sat to change my reservation and was told there was a $50.00 charge. We were going on 7-7 through 7-14, I was checking on the internet and it was going to cost me $753. for 7-7 WL standard room with dining. So, i just dropped the 7th and saved the $$. I realized value season started on the 8th thats why I checked the price for that one day. The CM told me there was a $50.00 fee. I paid the fee and still saved $703. I think our next trip will be to Universal, or just all the attractions in Orlando, Disney is getting very expensive and very few deals anymore.:sad1: Is this standard practice to charge $50.00 to change a reservation?????

It sounds like you were charged the fee because you made changes within the 45 day deadline. ALL WDW packages (which you have with room and dining) must be paid in full within 45 days of arrival. Any changes made to those packages that result in you spending less money are subject to the change fee. If you made changes where you would be spending more, you would not have to pay the fee. This is pretty common, and fairly well advertised.

This is only the second time we have had a package so I did not realize there was a 45 day window, I was thinking 30 day. This will give us a chance to try other resorts in the Orlando area so it worked out pretty good!! DH has a conference in Orlando in Jan 08, so we can test other resorts for that trip.

Yeah, it's all that small, light-gray print on the back of your reservation invoice. NOT trying to sound like I know it all, I just (I swear!) happened to be reading it this morning - I was looking for something about the Dining Plan :teeth:

This is a major reason I started booking room only reservations. Much easier to make changes without fees.

I was actually told this or read it somewhere so I was familiar with this change in policy but it does still suck. At least you still saved a ton of money.:thumbsup2

About this change fee, if I had to change the dates of our reservation/trip (after 45 window passed) to 3 months later, would I be charged the same change fee. I saw one poster mention, if you where spending less there is a fee, but what if I just have to change the dates of your vacation? Anyone know? Thanks, not meaning to hijack or anything.

No where in the official terms and conditions does it say the fee is only charged if the price goes down

Here is from the terms and conditions on Disney's Website

For a change made 44 days or less prior to arrival or that results in a rate change, there is an additional change fee of $50 per package plus any change fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers.

For changes, the change fees must be paid in addition to any increase in rate resulting from the change.

SO it would be fine to change the dates as long as we are willing to pay the $50?? I figure they would just transfer the payment I had made to the new reservation??? Does that sound right? :confused3

You could also add back your night 7/7 but just do it as a seperate reservation. The day your check in sets the rate for your entire stay. In your case the rate goes down, so it does not work to your favor, so you need 2 ressies one for the 1st night and one for the remaining. You might have to move, but usually not. If the rate was working the other way...cheaper to more expensive it would be better to just have the one reservation.

I was thinking about doing the 2 ressies because our check-in date puts us at a higher rate, checking-in a day later we would have saved $300, but the airfare would have cost us about $1200 more.

I have a couple questions about making 2 ressies:
How does this work with the DDP? Do you get the plan for all the days of both ressies or just one of them?

Can you make the ressie online or do you need to talk to a CM?

TIA.

As I understand it, the DDP must be purchased with a package for a stay of at least 3 days. So you would not be eligible for it for the first night (separate reservation) of your stay.

Even if you could get it for that first night, it likely wouldn't be worth it, since you'd have to purchase at least a one day base ticket (~$70 per adult) for each member of your party for that first night, then again for the second part of your stay. Since tickets are deeply discounted after the first few days, you're better off just booking a room only reservation for that first night, then switching to a package reservation for the remainder of your stay. Of course, this assumes that you can skip going to the parks on your check-in day. If not, you're kind of stuck--either paying the extra $70 per adult for another day's tickets, or paying the higher rates because of your check-in day, or paying the higher air fare.

FWIW, we had a similar problem. We booked our package and made all our ADR's based on a Saturday arrival and then SW released their schedule and eliminated the "good" flight on the weekends. We were already at the package maximum, so had to add a room only reservation at the beginning of our stay so we could fly on Friday instead of Saturday. We could have booked it at the same resort, and probably would not have had to change rooms, but dd really wanted a night at POP, so that's where we'll be. We're coming from the West Coast, so we arrive late and don't do the parks that first night anyway, so it works out okay for us. An extra day at Disney is an extra day at Disney any way you look at it!

Tunderbird, thanks for the info. It seems that if we do get the DDP that we should just book the room for the entire stay because we are getting in before noon and do plan on going to the parks that day. If we don't get the DDP them we could probably et away with do 2 seperate ressies.
