5/31/11 -- Chilling on the Wonder

Love the picture of the new addition, so exciting.

For those of us who can book 90 days out it is March 2. I was wondering also what time zone we could book. I am on the west coast and was wondering if I could actually start booking March 1 about 10 or 11.

I believe us West-Coasters can book at 9 pm PST on March 1, which will be 12:00 am EST.

Linda

I think my husband is trying to get ready for Alaska. He decided to go swimming in our pool this morning. It didn't last long.:rotfl:

Working on shore excursions this weekend (and for the last month or so, trying to getting everyone's wishes) - snooped at the DCL Alaska cruises before ours and no one's talking about them. Had hoped to find out some ideas what times would be listed for various activities, but this doesn't seem to be a big topic of conversation.

Finally went to Cruise Critic to get reviews. Got a few ideas for Misty Fjords floatplanes in Ketchikan, combined private van + White Pass Railroad for Skagway, and a whale watching trip out of Juneau. Need to get two activities in for Skagway and Juneau to add ziplining and glacier helicopter ride. I saw that it's hard to schedule 2 activities in one port with DCL, or else you need to allow more than 2 hours between activities.

Anyone got plans already?

Tuesday is check-in and excursions booking for Gold Castaway.

I've read that online check-in has changed (at least for the Dream), in that you select your arrival time at port for processing. We want the opportunity to ask for a port upgrade to balcony, so we need to get there early.

Still working on a design/logo that isn't necessarily Star Trek. Considering whales, lumberjack plaid, Alaska flag...

Just booked over the weekend!!
DH Michael, Myself Anna, DD Ale (11 almost 12 at sailing), DD Julia 8.
Late seating, and just learned today about FE and would love to join and try.
We are all so excited!

Welcome aboard... Our DD is Aubrey, and she is 8 too!

Sign me up for the FE!

It's just me sailing so here's my info:

Thanks for compiling the list.

Welcome to the cruise!

gduvall - Greg and Tammy, DD21, and DD19. main dining

Welcome!

Hi everyone.

I'm on this cruise also; I've actually been booked for a year now......

Looking at the list of fellow cruisers; I see a fair amount of you have 10 yr olds.... my dd is 10 and she will be in the kids club- I was just curious if most of you plan to keep your 10 yr olds in the kids club and not ask to put them in the new Edge?.... I've noticed a lot of folks in the cruise forum are planning to ask to move their 10 yr olds up to Edge and I'm hoping my dd will have other 10 yr olds to play with in the kids club......

Happy planning!

My DD is 8, but is a mature 8 y.o., so hopefully they can play together some too.

Speakupjc = Dance and George Brunswick plus DD8. We are on the second seating and in stateroom 5516.

Catherine will be in the kids club and enjoys playing with children of all ages. SMB6, Catherine is mature for her age and would love to play with your 10 yr old dd. I believe that your dd would enjoy playing with her as well as most kids love her.

Is anyone interested in a group brunch at Palo? We did this with fellow dissers in the Med and it was fun. There can only be 20 people in the private dining room so the first 18 people who respond will be included if I can get the ressie.

We are still looking for another family to share a table with at dinner. Is anyone interested?

Welcome aboard! I was worried about there being kids on an Alaskan cruise, but am excited to see so many will be there. I don't know why I was worried, cause it is DCL, but I was... Aubrey will glad to meet so many kids on this trip!

Ok, here's update number 1!:)

Docbrown

Thanks for updating!!! Please add my 2nd room to the FE. These are my parents, and they would like to participate too!

Anyone interested in the group brunch? We have 4 but need at least 15 to try and get the private dining room at Palos?

Possibly interested... What day are you looking to do this? My parents, DH and I would like to do this depending on when. I may have missed the date in the original post.

We just booked today. Family of 4 me, DH, DD Abby 17, DD Sydney 16. This will be our 4th cruise on Disney and our first to Alaska. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Welcome!

Please add us to the list of cruisers!
bld disney- Beth and Jim. Late dining.
Can't wait!

Welcome!

Finally decided on all of our excursions and have two booked. The final one we will do through DCL. So nice to have it all done because it seemed like several options were getting full. Talked to a really nice lady in Juneau who sounded really excited that the Wonder was coming to Alaska. On to the next part of planning.:surfweb:

I guess it's time to get busy on my planning!

The youngest (maybe) 5/31 cruiser has arrived! DD was born Wednesday afternoon!

Beautiful! Welcome aboard!

Has anyone here created a logo for this cruise? If so, can I borrow for door magnets and stuff.

Thank you!

Linda

Would love to see a logo if someone has created one... Is "Chilling on the Wonder" the official name of this group?

11:00 CST Feb 14 - able to book in the Gold 120-day-out window (Feb 15)

Palo - Tables for 1-4 available for brunch, tea, and dinner

Able to book all our excursions except one, which may be too early in the season to operate (a combined White Pass Railroad & Kayaking trip) - or it may have sold out.

What I did get were
Skagway: White Pass Scenic Railway and then Glacier Discovery by Helicopter (the system did let me book 2 excursions for the same people; there is a 2.75 hr gap between the two).

Juneau: Exclusive Whale Encounter with Mendenhall Glacier

Ketchikan: Tatoosh Islands Sea Kayak Adventure [We have a Misty Fjords & Glacier Floatplane trip arranged through Island Air? for some of us]

The funny thing is I am Gold, sharing a room with 2 Silver nieces; my sister is Silver, sharing a room with her Gold daughter - I can book things for my Silver nieces, but not for my Silver sister. And I book things for my Gold niece in the other room. I also could book things for my Silver niece - alone, just not with her Silver mother. I hope their joint activities are still available in 15 days.

If anyone wants to know what time they are offering specific excursions, let me know.

Thanks for offering Lynne! We're sailing later in the summer so can't see the times available yet.

We have several family members traveling who all want to do some similar excursions, but not exactly the same. For example, in Skagway there are several excursion packages that include the White Pass Railway. What I'm trying to figure out is if the train parts would be at the same time and then we could go different ways then meet up on-board.

Specifically...

Heli-Hike and Railroad

Yukon Susupension Bridge, City, and Railway

Glacier Lake Kayak and Railway

I believe the last two both have the train ride first so might be same ride while thwe Heli-Hike has the train last. Can anyone confirm if the 2nd and 3rd excursions above start at the same time so are probably on the same train?

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help you may provide!

Thanks for the update Lynne. Good to hear that Palo ressies were still available. Can't wait to see what there is March 2! :woohoo:

I'm still very undecided on excursions. I've got a list of those that interest us. Just need to narrow everything down and decide if we are going to book through DCL or on our own.

WOW - we are already at 120 days out - its going to be here before you know it.

I was wondering if you could tell me the tour times for two excursions in Juneau (we booked the other ones outside of Disney):

- The Best of Juneau (Brother, DH and DS want to do this one)
- Disney Exclusive Glacier Dog Musher for the Day (My DD and I want to do this one).

Thanks in advance.

As far as the group brunch at Palo is concerned since there was not enough interest we will not be doing this. We only had 6 people who were interested and needed 20.

We are still interested in sharing a dinner table with a family with kids. If anyone is interested please let us know.

I do have bad news for those of you who were interested in the Disney Exclusive Dog Musher for a day. At 12:00 PM EST last night it was competely sold out. I was unable to book for our family of 3 as a result! We had to book the dog sled adventure by helicopter. The good news is that although this adventure doesn't include some of the same elements (meeting the puppies, seeing the camp) it does include a helicopter ride over glacier and the opportunity to mush the dogs. Furthermore it looks like it is run by the same company as the Disney Exclusive Dog Musher for a day as the pictures for both are same. Let me know what ya'll think?

That's a bummer - keep checking though as I have heard they open up slots during each of the booking windows, etc. If all else fails I will just get to the port extra early and try and book it (we've done this in the past when many of the items have been sold out online).

...

Heli-Hike and Railroad

7:00 am - 12:30 pm

Yukon Susupension Bridge, City, and Railway

7:15 am - 12:15 pm or
12:00 pm - 5:0 pm

Glacier Lake Kayak and Railway...

Glacier Lake Kayak and Railway is not even listed for our date; I think the higher elevation lakes might still have ice when we visit.

...

- The Best of Juneau (Brother, DH and DS want to do this one)

9:45 am - 4:15 pm

- Disney Exclusive Glacier Dog Musher for the Day (My DD and I want to do this one).
Only activity sold out as of 11:25pm CST 2/15/11

Thanks in advance.

I considered both of the Dog Sled activities and thought either one would be a fun experience. And the description says you will have a 25 minute sled ride and spend 60 minutes at the camp (may include the ride) - so there might be some time spent with the puppies.

Anjelica thanks for giving me hope that the Dog Musher for a Day might open up. Since at 12 AM EST on 1/15/2011 it was sold out I am hopeful that they might open up some more slots. It appears that all of the concierge and plantium members liked this excursion as they are the ones that booked it. With this kind of a response from them I hope the operator of the tour opens enough slots for all of us.

Agreed. Juneau is the only port where we decided to go through Disney for our excursions so I will be disappointed if we don't get to do the Dog Musher for a day one.

There is hope, though, for those wanting to see/meet the Husky puppies - I have read that Skagway has a large camp or two where they breed and train the Huskies - I believe there are several tours/excursions that will make a stop to view these guys. If you search for excursions in Skagway you will find a few that offer a stop off at the Musher's camp.

I know that the Yukon Expedition has a huskey dog and puppy visit. We were able to book that one who it was some comfort as my daughter really had her hopes set on meeting the puppies.

We are going to be sailing with all of you. Let me introduce myself. My name is Carol, I go by Alex's Mom on the Boards. Myself, my husband Craig, my son, Alex and my stepson, Mitchell, will be on the Alaskan cruise. We booked two years ago. I am just now getting on the boards for this cruise. We are from Huntsville, Alabama.

I have really enjoyed reading all your posts. It has been very informative. I look forward to getting to know all of you. We are in 8032.

Is anybody doing the Adventures by Disney pre cruise? We are looking into it.
