I wish I had the time and patience to make this more coherent than it probably will be........

Costa Maya was much better than expected. Stunningly beautiful beaches, nice people, not overly commercialized (yet!). I was really bothered by the number of very small local children we saw on the beaches who were not attended by any adult. It appeared that the 5-year-old was supposed to watch the 2- and 3-year olds :confused3 The water was almost TOO hot, though. This would seem to be a great place to visit when the weather is cooler and CC might be a bit too cold to swim. We did the jeep excursion which was lots of fun but we returned late and literally had to run to the ship. I realize that they would not have left us, since it was a Disney excursion, but I really didn't like pushing it so close.

If you are buying from the local vendors in Mexico, PLEASE negotiate prices! I don't like haggling, but you will pinch yourself if you pay the price asked, then find the exact item later and realize you could have gotten it for half what you paid. The street vendors always start high and expect the negotiating, so forget our typical American ways and haggle to a reasonable price.

We had a wonderful serving team and a room attendant who did the bare minimum. It really struck us how much a difference it makes when you have great service people compared to the mediocre few. I hate it for anyone who happens to get poor servers and a room attendant who could care less, because that has to be very unusual and those people will always think the rest of us are crazy!

Sometimes I really wish that Disney would be more firm and less nice. By the end of the cruise I was really tired of rude kids who blocked stairwells, and were loud and crude overall. Twice there were cast members who clearly spoke English and were white-collar types who encountered these thug wantabees and just let them be. This trip we did seem to run into more misbehaving kids, and often this was right in front of their parents. Just amazing. Of course, there were some adults who had problems, too, such as the couple who came very late to the drill and were loudly complaining about having to do this and used some rather colorful language to mouth off about how stupid they thought it was. Not the best start to our cruise, but you just have to shrug off some things.

The spa! Why we haven't "done" the spa before, I will never know. I don't think that we can cruise in the future unless we somehow can limit our spending, because I could spend a fortune as it is addictive.

There were several changes to the menus since we cruised last year. I don't have copies, but we all remarked about the differences. None of us were crazy about Lumiere's menu, which was our first night, but it improved significantly after that! And I can't complain about any place that allows self-service ice cream until 11:00 pm!! :yay:

I don't think that embarkation could possibly be any easier than it was yesterday! I just wish we could have stayed on another week instead of coming back to the real world............

Sounds like a fantastic cruise! Thanks for sharing! :)

All the kids and parents were great that I met on the May 20 cruise. Maybe their were to many kids.

Thanks for your post! It's a great reminder to the parents on the boards! I know that I'll be sure to talk to my dd before we leave!!

Thanks for sharing!
I wonder if you just had bad luck in the areas you were at -at the wrong time or something- because we barely saw any kids unless we were near the pools or on deck 9- and our stateroom was on deck 5 just around the corner from the club and lab! LOL
The only time we saw kids other than the pools and dining area and atrium (when lined up for pictures) were on CC and a few times in the hallways waiting for an elevator. They were well behaved but the mama-bear in me couldn't believe the young ages that were without parents. LOL

The "problem" kids were not part of the organized activities. They were the ones hanging out by themselves, and the ones who the parents seemed to have decided were "on vacation" and didn't have to show any consideration or manners. More than once a child crashed into me, just out of control. Having a child who was bouncy wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but did the parents apologize or tell the child to calm down? Not one time. I have kids, and have been around many children, as well as have cruised several times on Disney. This cruise had a huge percentage of children, so not sure how you could have missed them! And the aft stairs, after dinner, seemed to be the primary gathering area for those who had no supervision. Having to ask (reached the point of just ordering) kids to move who had the entire width of the stairs blocked got old, fast.

Sorry to hear you had these troubles but I'm glad to hear you share it. I have noticed the same thing on our Disney cruises lately. This was our 4th and the children really were out of control a lot of the time. As someone else noted it seems the aft stairways and elevators are the hangout of choice. It really bugs me that so many parents treat their family vacation as a vacation from parenting. Disney also, should police this a little better. I know that no parent wants someone else correcting their child but it is Disney's ship, afterall.

I have seen this more in the parks kids justs loose there mind they get really excited and the as you said I think the parents take a vacation from parenting. We only had one time that I can remember that we there was a child (not even old enough to be a kid) that was really out of control on our cruise last year, and I have a really strong parent face. My DW calles it "the look". I don't like to correctr other peoples children any more than I would want some one correcting mine, But THE LOOK uaslly stops MOST (not all) from blocking isles and bumping in to us. I probubly got the face from my Farther god knows he used enough on me. :rotfl2:
i am gald you had a good time we are really looking foward to being able to write a trip report ourselves. We are also planining on trying out the Spa as well.
Did you drive on your jeep excursion? We were thinking about doing that on or the Dune Buggy adventure.
