I had (here in MS) but that might be because my parents are not from here originally. Though, I want to say that I actually saw some being sold at Academy Sports. (they might be a knock-off brand.)

Yup, lots of knock offs out there.

And, I know it sounds like I'm tootin' my own dad's horn, but his are better.

He makes his out of a high quality cast aluminum with quality fasteners. LOTS of ppl buy the knock offs and then the fasteners (or the whole thing) melts in the fire*. But they got a good deal b/c it was $5 cheaper than the original MPM. Actually, sadly, he's toying with giving up the business b/c the price of his castings from the foundry just went up a couple of dollers per pie mold. He's making such a small profit as it is, he doesn't think it's worth it to lose even more profit. As it is, his pie molds are more $ than the knocks offs and if he raises the price he'll sell even LESS b/c ppl will buy MORE knock offs.

It's really a sad thing b/c pie molds have been in my life since birth. We get emails a good bit about ppl who have been using the same pie mold for 20 yrs. I know the ones that we have here around here have been used consistantly for the last 10 or so.

If he's going to give it up (he's still thinking about it,) I want him to make a couple of dozen for us....and for the kids. :)

*my dad's pie molds WILL melt in the fire. Campfires can get to over 1000 degrees if the embers are really hot. USUALLY the cause of melting will be someone forgot about the mold in the fire, and then found it much later, melted. Used properly, they will not melt. If there are any problems, my dad replaces the whole thing, free of charge. Sometimes the things he does make me wonder if he has stock in lube ( :lmao ) Just last week some guy emailed that his cracked (never has happened before) and my dad shipped him out a new one (and told him to cut off the handles of his old one)

BTW, I also must add.....

My dad DOES wear pants when he's making his pie molds!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

running a drill press while naked is NOT a good idea!! :)

Hi JenS - :welcome: glad you decided to "jump" in with us. I'm a first time Disney cruiser also, but I think you could change if you wanted to once we get on the ship. You have to find out where you have to go, but I've heard on these boards that it is possible to do. I would ask at check-in. Good luck and I feel the same way, we have early seating too, but it wouldn't be good for me to eat at 8:30 at night. My tummy wouldn't like it. So, I'll try it this one time and see how it goes.

Do you have any kids? I'm Maria, DH - Augie, DS-AJ 10, and DS - Anthony 6. We're from NY and btw - I LOVE the Steelers!!! Have been lovin' them since the 70's. I was a happy girl this Superbowl. We'll talk more on the cruise.

Hi Maria

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm not sure how much I'll like eating at 8:30 either. I cruised for my honeymoon (forever ago) and we had late seating and we didn't like it. It was just too late. But I'm just not sure I can pull us all together by early! Oh the decisions to be made.

I forgot all about telling you who I'm going with! My DH-Matt, DS-Jake 8, DS-Christopher 3 and DSIL, DBIL, DNeice-11, DNeice-9, DNephew-4, DMIL, DFIL, and DBIL's DM!

And my husband is one of the bigger Steeler fans as well! It was such a happy household around here in February. He's insisting that a Steeler sign be included with any door signs I make! We were lucky enough to be at the Super Bowl and what a nerve wracking game it was!

Thanks for the info and I can't wait to meet you on the Magic in 17 days!

JenS

Caribbean topaz, or Rainbow topaz are all heat-treated. The only natural topaz are brown, yellow, and golden. Blue topaz is also heat-treated. There's a difference between "created" and treated. A created stone is basically a "fake" from the get-go. A treated stone is a natural stone, but enhanced for color by a process, usually heat. If you think about it, all natural diamonds are "treated".

I guess that didn't come out right. The Caribbean and rainbow topaz are REAL, they were just heated to bring out the colors.
I think they're really pretty, and they are very affordable!

Thanks Stacey! I really like them. My birthstone is topaz but I'm not a fan of the brown or yellow/golden.

I understand your situation completely. We will pick up our kids from school and hit the road on Friday. (The 6th grade graduation is that morning and several of our friends' children will be leaving the school where they have been since 3 year olds' preschool. ) Then we will all (several families) caravan down to the Rad at the Port to spend the night. I have absolutely no idea when we will arrive. I don't even know how long of a drive it is.

 Hmmm. maybe I do need to invest in the dual screen DVD player. I hate the flip down screen when it comes to driving and seeing out the back window. I better watch out; whatever I spend before the cruise, I can't spend ON the cruise. :teeth:

Can you tell I have no students right now! :woohoo: For about 5 more minutes peace and quiet and DISing reigns!

Karen: If you go to AAA's site, you can "Trip Tik" your route. It gives the best route, mileage, and estimates driving time. There's also a way to find out what road construction you might encounter, detours, delays. You might find it helpful. :)

If you get stuck and want some help, just let me know. (With the creative stuff that is, not the cleaning!) I'm on a roll with door signs!

Hi - this is Sue. I have friends who love the stone. Changes colors, like a rainbow. Here in Md it is called the Mystic topaz.

Sue

Thanks, Sue...I knew there was another name for them, and I couldn't think of it. That's the kind of thing that would have driven me nuts...until I "googled" it! :thumbsup2

Let's see ... takes my parents about 12 hours to drive to my sister's house ... so take off 3 hours from the time it would take them to get from their house to LB then add another hour from my sister's to the port ... so what is that ... probably 10 hours.

:thanks: for the info, but in order to use Trip Tik, I would have to join AAA, so I'll just guess by using other means! :)

Now that Ang has given me that info, I guess I have my answer! ACKKK!
