Reading isn't my problem. I can see fine up close (so far.) I wore contacts for years but thought I'd go back to glasses. Mike had to after his eye surgery for his glaucoma and it's so nice to see him get in bed and take off his glasses and be done.....while I'm in the bathroom scrubbing and disenfecting my contacts. Yuck. So I thought I'd give glasses a whirl again. We'll see. These are about 25% of the size of my old old old glasses.

I don't like that I can't see the steps as I'm coming down them. Twice now I've thought there was another step and I kept "stepping." I must look like I've got some sort of drinking problem when I try to get around.

I know....I'll move to a ranch home! :)

I'd never go back to glasses....I have to wear them for dive trips and that is quite enough, thank you. I am so blind, I cannot wear the disposable ones Kiki posted....I do not mind the cleaning - I'll find the cleaner and post it for you - it is expensive and is really easy to use.

On the virus thing, Norton and McAfee are the two worst choices for virus protection. Simply because they are the ones 'everybody' uses. The virus writers know this, and purposely write their garbage to work past those two programs in particular. It's even worse now that most of the pc manufactuerers bundle one or the other with new pc's. My personal recommendations are AVG or Trend Micro for virus protection and Spybot to deal with the spyware things.

As far as glasses, I'm wearing the first set I wear everyday. For about two weeks I had that 'woah' feeling getting adjusted to them. Now I more get that feeling without them. And for me it's not a distance thing; I'm astigmatic, which means due to the shape of my eye it doesn't focus quite right. Things arn't blurry; more like double exposed. I can actually see without them, if I concentrate a teeny bit to compensate.

I have boots now that were form fitted to my feet (liners heated, put on, then cooled to the shape of my feet) Skiis are well taken care. And it makes a WORLD of difference. When I want to turn, I move my foot, which moves my boot, which moves my ski. Rental skiis, turn your foot, the boot is too big so all that happens is your foot moves inside your boot, your boot doesn't move, therefore your ski doesn't move. Frustrating.

What I would have given for a pair of those when I was a ski bunny! My feet ALWAYS hurt. I remember, they would go numb and I would have to undue the clips occasionally to get the blood circulating again. They always fitted me too small, I guess. I was a really good skiier, even taught Kevin how, but I do remember carrying the equipment up from the parking lot at Taos. I was in really good shape then, and it still killed me. High altitude.

So that's why I feel so weird when I can't find my current glasses (smaller frames) and wear my old pair (bigger frames). It's very discombobulating! I had RK surgery about 13 years ago. My left eye digressed a little bit, so I need a correction in that eye. But I did improve from something like -600 to about -60 in the eye, the other one is still pretty close to 20. If you've had RK, you can't wear contacts. I don't think they even do RK anymore, it's all lasers now.

Hi Everyone,

We were supposed to do a lot of skiing this winter, but DH tore his meniscus in his right knee and that put a kabash on that one. Even leased skis for the season for all three of them. I can't ski due to an old broken leg injury. What a waste of money. But who knew. The kids were really looking forward to it, too. Oh well..next year we hope to go to UT or CO. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Good Morning and congratulations to Mary! I reallly appreciate how you reach out and make others feel welcome.

On the topic of contacts/glasses: I wear the extended wear version but take them out at night and use my glasses. My vision is not to bad but strangely has been changing the past few years so that if I am on the computer or reading I dont need or want the glasses. My eye dr. called that the "birthday present" does everyone get that when they turn "21" :)

On the topic of skiing: I lived in the foothills outside of Denver for awhile and took full advantage of the skiing. Although I never bought always rented which is really a shame because you are right about the fit. I was young and had other financial priorities. One thing cool, I took a survival class where we learned how to locate folks after an avalanche and also how to make an ice cave. Doesnt come in to handy here in Texas...

Beautiful day here in NY, too(depends on who you talk to). Snowing and it looks sooo pretty out there. Kids are being dimissed early, so I only have 1 hour left. Got the fireplace all fired up and ready to do some s'mores with the kids. One of the neighbor's kids are coming over, too.

Lazy afternoon I guess.

TTFN

Mary - congratulations on your milestone posting. You always are eager to help out with any questions on all the boards. Glad you are a moderator, too. It's not just us who get to pick your brains, everybody gets a chance but we're the lucky ones who get to cruise with you (and Mark). Thanks for all the help that you have given over the years. Can't wait to meet ya. Congratulations again and keep it going.

When we first moved back to the states, I thought I would get my DH to go skiing. I planned to first get him up on rollerblades and work up to skiing. The very first outting on the blades we end up taking him to ER and a wrecked knee. I think our vacations will be in warm climates for quite awhile now. :duck:

I wear contacts, too. LOVE THEM. I just switched to the CibaVision O-2. They are extended wear - 2 weeks. I put them in their little disinfectant at night and in the morning...voila..I could see. I have an emergency pair of glasses but hate to wear them. I remember the first time I put the contacts in my eyes....it was amazing that I didn't have to turn my head to see. Just my eyes. I feel in love immediately.

Good luck getting used to your glasses.

Guess I should get going, the bus should be here soon. Yuck!!

Oh, wonderful! I got roller blades for my birthday.....even though I ABSOLUTELY did NOT want them. They were forced on me by a family that thought it would be fun to all roller blade together. ER here I come. My biggest fear is I'll hit a small little pebble and go end over end onto the pavement. I have a high pain tolerance, but I do avoid potentially painful activites at all costs!

Next year I'm going to beg the family NOT to give me a week at WDW alone. I ABSOLUTELY do NOT want that....ever! :lmao:

I must say, I am getting slightly more used to the glasses. ALthough I almost fell down the basement stairs going down to get something out of the freezer.

I think, at this point, cooking would be DANGEROUS for me. I'd better not do it. Housework either. Laundry too.

cannot believe it. It's only lunchtime and Nick is only one math lesson and a handwriting page away from being DONE. This is unheard of!! Considering we didn't start until 9:30, that's pretty good!! KT is doing well too. Only one math and a vocabulary...but, she has also worked ahead on Literature and is doing some History to prepare for when Mike gets home.

Who are these kids and where are MY children??????

cool, unexpected TOP shared with my kids (or whoever's kids they are!)

mike said "mrs. scuba has little glasses and i'll bet she doesn't complain so much about them." :lmao:

funny guy!

HELP MRS. SCUBA!!!!

Tell Mike Mrs. Scuba had trouble adjusting too!!! You are just behind me on the "growing old". I wore contacts from 16 until a few years ago. I tried bi-focal contacts and could not see clear enough for all of the close work I have to do (Accounting can be so much fun HA HA). So, I went to glasses. And, you are correct they are small glasses. They are child's size. I guess I can at least say I have a small face . . . .

I got a bad prescription this last time and it was horrible. I kept saying the glasses weren't correct and finally they figured out they had put the wrong prescription in them. Once the prescription was corrected, I was fine. Good luck with your glasses.

I tried the bifocal contacts, too and just couldn't do it. They tell me that they now have something better, but I'm skeptical. Besides, my glasses are now TRI-focal....so I think I'm stuck with the glasses no matter what. Can't have the surgery, I would still have to wear glasses anyway...and I can't stand the thought of someone messing with my eyes. They're the only ones I have.

Mark....they put in Trend for me....and I just put it on the lap top too. I think I have the lap top all cleaned up, just need to do some updates and it should be fine.
I think they also added Spy Sweeper? Not sure, would have to look.

Good Afternoon - just stopping in to say hello. My office closed today at 11 b/c of the snow/hail/ice we are getting. YEAH! Haven't heard anything about early dismissal, but that could change at any moment. So here I am, no dd and able to DIS w/o hearing "Can I go on the computer now?" from dd. LOL!
