The latest track looks further south than Houston, need to get out the map. I have a brother in Corpus Christi, not sure where he will go.

yep, we'll be on the wet side and it's projected to turn north after landfall, so we'll get hit hard any way we look at it... Our house is only 21 feet above sea level about a mile from the bay - depending on the storm surge and tides we could be water logged... Not exactly how I wanted to get the carpets replaced...

At least this is motivating the kids to clean their rooms so if needed we can starting moving stuff upstairs...Don't think I've ever had them so willing to clean...Although, I'd rather do without this kind of motivation.

Might be a good time for a mini-meet!!!
We are only there for a couple nights (Oct. 7-9) but maybe we can squeeze dinner in or something! Sounds like fun!!

My bark is lot more dangerous than my bite, so don't worry. I was just complaining about going back to work. All work and no play makes big dog boring. larry

Ok, heres the menu for tonite. Tacos, beef tamales, Pace picante sauce, and tostitos. Watch out tomorrow! :rolleyes1

Schools are cancelled on our edge of Houston on the bay and 20 miles from Galveston) for the rest of the week. I cancelled the classes which I have control over and still waiting to hear from a supervisor on the others - I have a feeling since she lives on the other side of town, further inland, it'll be a wait and see attitude. Even though the track looks like it'll hit Corpus Christi, putting the center 4 hours away - my only indecision is deciding how far to run...given there is only 1 major road north and 1 west - I'd rather start early than decide at the last minute.

John will have to stay here for work, they'll decide this afternoon if procedures will be in place - they will be evacuated to the other side of the city...Do I stay here with him or do I run far away... If only WDW was closer...5 days off of school - and I want to try to keep things as stress free as possible for the kids...

Our prayers are with you......Keep us posted as long as you can. We hope that Rita will do something, turn away, dissapate, disappear, disintegrate.....and all the other dis things1!!!!!

And on a somewhat serious and slightly amusing note -

There's a hurricane heading toward you...You need to evacuate...You can only take what will fit into a Beetle convertible ...So, including yourself and 2 kids...what else do you take??

Kinda sounds like a "stranded on a desert island with one item" question...:rotfl2:

Medical records, financial records, a few changes of clothes...Guess you learn quickly what is important in your life and what you can't absolutely live without...

So, so, so sorry that you have to go through this...

PS - take the cruise reservations.

Oh, yes, and the wedding pictures....

and pets...

not making light, very worried about you all....

Rightly so!!
I think EVERYONE is taking these storms a lot more seriously now than pre-Katrina.

I have two older sons in the Houston area. Need to call and see what they are planning. DD and I are going down there in a couple of weeks to visit. God bless to all and take care!!! :lovestruc

Kevin - time to invite sons to come home! Best of luck....

Based on last year - clean now,,,,clean, clean, clean...You will well appreciate it when (if) the electricity goes out for 2 weeks and you have to live in a house that has all the "stuff" jammed into a few rooms....

We are there also for Anniversary....keep us posted....perhaps drinks....dinners are booked including Party of the senses...perhpas lunch on Sunday???? Perhaps meeting in front of a wine bar????

Long day - does it show...started this am with electricity going off and squalls.

gaRry - Still laughing about Liz and all that chocolate. Her hubby did get his Twizzlers and I think she 'hid' the candy in the basement freezer.

Kevin - You want good crabcakes? We will find the best for local and for tourist, maybe we can do a taste test.
