mickeymo said:I usually take the open houses in stride - Mike's teacher wasn't even at the beginning of school open house - she was very terse at the 3rd grade parents orientation night. I ended up being room mom and while she wasn't warm and fuzzy, she was/is a wonderful, witty person. Mike really excelled in her class and considers her a favorite. They've been in workshops, etc all week, I know they are exhausted.
Most kids also enjoy saying "hi" to their former teachers. I think that's a good sign, the kids cared enough about her to come back...
Between other parents and kids trying to get the teachers' attentions, we usually just make sure the kids know where their rooms are and then escape -er - head out - it's usually a madhouse...
Get involved, volunteer, if you can, it's the best way to get to know the teacher's personalilty and classroom style. Try not to judge based on the open house...
I had already decided that I would try not to judge on open house. You're right about it being a good thing that former students want to visit. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has felt overwhelmed. I think Mon. morning is going to be hard!
