I usually take the open houses in stride - Mike's teacher wasn't even at the beginning of school open house - she was very terse at the 3rd grade parents orientation night. I ended up being room mom and while she wasn't warm and fuzzy, she was/is a wonderful, witty person. Mike really excelled in her class and considers her a favorite. They've been in workshops, etc all week, I know they are exhausted.

Most kids also enjoy saying "hi" to their former teachers. I think that's a good sign, the kids cared enough about her to come back...

Between other parents and kids trying to get the teachers' attentions, we usually just make sure the kids know where their rooms are and then escape -er - head out - it's usually a madhouse...

Get involved, volunteer, if you can, it's the best way to get to know the teacher's personalilty and classroom style. Try not to judge based on the open house...

I had already decided that I would try not to judge on open house. You're right about it being a good thing that former students want to visit. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that has felt overwhelmed. I think Mon. morning is going to be hard!

But sports are soooooooo much better in HD!!!!

I'm sure I'll love it too! :teeth: Now, if I could only get to see the New Orleans Saints. Maybe one of these years they'll be good enough to see. The Falcons have been decent enough lately to get the conference showing for the weekend. My best friend & I had a pact that if the Saints ever made it to the Super Bowl, we would do whatever it took to go. That was all before we really knew how much it would cost to even get a ticket!!! I miss my season tixs.

Here's one for Karen, Mike, KT and Nick

Buckeye Battle Cry
In old Ohio there's a team
That's known thru-out the land;
Eleven warriors, brave and bold,
Whose fame will ever stand.
And when the ball goes over,
Our cheers will reach the sky,
Ohio field will hear again
The Buckeye Battle Cry-

Drive! Drive on down the field,
Men of the scarlet and gray;
Don't let them thru that line,
We have to win this game today,
Come on, Ohio!
Smash through to victory.
We cheer you as you go:
Our honor defend
So we'll fight to the end for O-hi-o.

Treat yourself to lunch with friends...massage - something special...When Maggie went to kindergarten, I think it was harder on me...She had been following her big brother for two years so, we got to the front doors, turned around and said, "o.k. - you can go home now" and walked right in - no kiss, backwards glance or anything... Didn't cry when Mike started school, but I did shed a few tears on the way home after Maggie walked in - it didn't go according to my plan...I wanted to walk her to her room and/or at least get a hug...

Fixing this up a bit for mickeymo....

It's Friday!!! Kareoke Time!!!

Here's a bit of Beachboys keeping with today's morning conversations!!!

When some loud braggart tries to put me down
And says his school is great
I tell him right away
Now what’s the matter buddy
Ain’t you heard of my school
It’s number one in the state

So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school

I got a letterman’s sweater
With a letter in front
I got for footbal and track
I’m proud to where it now
When I cruise around
The other parts of the town
I got a decal in back

So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school

On friday we’ll be jacked up on the football game
And I’ll be ready to fight
We’re gonna smash ’em now
My girl will be working on her pom-poms now
And she’ll be yelling tonight

So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school

Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school

THERE, THAT'S BETTER!!! ;) (stick poking smilie here)

Hee hee.
Once on a boat to the MK all of a sudden the kids started singing that song and they kept getting louder and louder. Turns out someone with a Michigan jacket was sitting on the boat a few rows in front of us. The guy turns around and I just smiled and said "Go Bucks." He laughed!! :)

ACK...passholder question

I am renewing our passes and toying with upgrading to premium annual passes...
and I see that admission is required to the Wide World of Sports complex...

does that include the All Star Cafe?

Mary gave me some great tips on Castaway Cay snorkleing -- JustmeCat - that seems to be yoru forte...

Has anyone booked the snorkle boat trip. This is the big weekend when we make our ressies for the November cruise. (my Nov. thread is mostly first timers and only one diver among the posters).

Anyway, should we try the boat, wait til may 2006 and do it with you guys ---- and relax per Mary's suggestions????

Input is appreciated.

Happy Friday...

Karen, I'm pretty sure you don't have to pay to get into All Star Cafe. Alicia went with Matt and Lisa, and she didn't charge anything to her key!

My baby went to high school today. She was nervous. She will be one of the few new kids in her class, most have been together since 6th grade. We toured the school yesterday so she would know where her classes are, most of the teachers were heading out to lunch. So she only met her Lit teacher, who told her they were going to study the "100 greatest books" in the first semester. We're hoping not ALL of them! We got her schedule changed so she can take dance, but now she has Chemistry as a Freshman. Hoping she remembers enough Algebra from past enriched classes to get through it, since she's taking Algebra I concurrently! Can't wait to pick her up today, and hear how it went.

Diana...and all the other moms...I certainly feel your pain! The whole first week is a tough one.
When my kids started Kindergarten, they ran off without so much as a backward glance. I was the one who cried!

OSU, LSU...... what about NEBRASKA? :cheer2: :cheer2: Go Huskers!!

Even though you are being mean to my husband's Alma Mater (Michigan), I will answer this question.

All Star Cafe is NOT in the Wide World of Sports Complex per se - it is in front of it. There is no cover charge to enter the restaurant. Any question about this facility should be direct to Matt. He is the expert. He even convinced Lisa and Alicia to go there for dinner the night Kevin, Diana, Jim and I went to Victoria's & Alberts for dinner.

Mmmmmmmmmm!! That brings back memories!!

We should do that again! I'm sure Jim would be up for it. :bitelip:

I am keeping my eye on TS Irene. We leave Sunday from Baltimore and I sure don't want to run into her. Frances chased us last year and the wind was terrible.
