my dad just sent me an email asking me what's going on......why have two people just died at WDW....one on mission space, the other on pirates.

Anyone know anything about a pirates death?

my dad, more than likely, read it but it was an archived story.

The POTC death was in Feb, is just being referred to as part of the story...

From the D-B News Journal.... "One other death was reported at Disney World this year. Gloria Land, 77, of St. Paul, Minn., who was in poor health from diabetes and several ministrokes, lost consciousness in February after going on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Magic Kingdom. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
"The death was not unexpected," the medical examiner's report said.

This article also is the first that I've read that contains part of the mother's statement...
"During the ride, the boy's mother noticed that Daudi's body was rigid and that his legs were stretched straight out. She told detectives that she thought the ride was frightening him so she took his hand to reassure him.

"When the ride ended, the victim was limp and unresponsive in his seat," according to a sheriff's office report.

No top celebrations on this one, out of respect for the families... prayers instead...

Thanks for the info. I hadn't read that article.

And you are one classy person for declining to celebrate a TOP. :grouphug:

Definitely sounds like a seizure - probably related to a cerebral mishap......

The kids just tear me up.............

Actually, I was only on that site 'cause I was doing actual WORK (I do that sometime), or it wouldn't have been my first choice of news sources... our local paper leaves more than a bit to be desired...

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't going to speculate ... but you're the one with MD in your username... my medical training came from Hawkeye and BJ.

I couldn't agree more. More reason to enjoy every happy Disney minute (and EVERY happy minute) with our kids... even when they drive us CRAZY

Definitely a terrible mishap! Can something like that happen from a ride? Or is it more a facilitator?

The more common thing that happens is you hear of a young person have a stroke (sub-arachnoid hemorrhage for the Googlers) on a roller coaster or spinning ride - due to the G-forces. It is normally is due to a small defect in the cerebral circulation that goes undetected until abnormal stress is applied.

One of the risks in life.......

Here's something that bugs me. Over on the theme parks board, and the community board, there are threads about this boy's death. About every third poster says something like "I can't believe they took a 4 year old on Mission Space". Boy, I sure hope the parents are not DIS'ers, can you imagine reading that later on? Their four year old son met the height requirement, and may have been very eager to go on the ride. The parents had no reason to worry that a ride at WDW would harm their child. If it's something like Virgil suspects, it could have happened when he was 16.

It's OK if I vent here, right?

We walked by several paramedic set-ups on this trip, and I don't remember that ever happening before. Well, beside the time we were at BCV and a worker fell off the roof. We just kept going, and I guess everyone was OK or we would have heard about it on the DIS.

Diana - I agree - I would've taken Lauren on it at when she was 4 (no way she would have met the height requirement) - but she's that kind of kid....adventurous.....

I am fairly certain age had absolutely nothing to do with this tragedy....

I've refrained from posting over "there" because you all know how well they treat "us" :guilty:

Yes, best to keep it to informational posts "over there". Though I do occasionally express an opinion on a TV show or something. Really sticking my neck out, there. The four year old on Mission Space thing is now a full blown debate on the CB. I'm going to stop reading it.

Honey, that is what I want!!!

And that is what you have received for the last 3 Christmases. It's getting harder for Fathers Day - we've done the personal DVD, the Chill & Grill, etc. Lisa & I will have to be creative I guess.

Come home and take me out to dinner. That will work tonight! Dinner on the beach!

Answering the Double load of presents - birthday and Father's Day question

And what's the problem with that?

The double load of presents would be SHOPPING IN APRIL for his Father's Day and Birthday Presents - using them when they arrived, not waiting until June 17 & 19 respectively to celebrate his special days...Then the kids want to purchase and wrap presents since "those didn't count" - he got them in April...So, he gets 4 instead of 2... That's the scam...

Case in point - he's already using his Ipod (birthday June 17) which he ordered in May to take advantage of a rebate- and he ordered his Father's Day present so long ago, I can't remember what it was...

All that aside, I'd rather he order exactly what he wants when it comes to big ticket items rather than suprise him and be wrong...Just wish I could beat John home on the day the UPS truck arrives so I could confiscate the box until the actual day...

o.k. now - back to catching up on reading - a 4 yr old died on M.S. - oh my...I missed that - although I'm not so far out of reality on vacation to miss the Michael Jackson verdict and the media circus with it...

And again, I ask (and Kevin, Virgil, and all the other guys will agree), What's the problem with that. The "scam" sounds fine to me! :)

Well, the email today explains that they've had LOTS of teen girls sign up to help and they can't be main cabin counsellors, so I've been bumped up to main cabin counsellor.

/QUOTE]
:grouphug: Whew - You are my hero! :wizard: pixie dust to get you through!!!

My most memorable cabin counselor slept with her eyes open - it was the freakiest thing to see - but, it sure kept the antics down - we never knew if she was awake or asleep
