No surprise - I agree with Stacey 100%. Think of how many silly things we've started that other groups now do. We are the originals. I'm proud to be a member of both the 10 day and the Blabbermouth group!

Yep....and I  Mark and Mary SO MUCH that I was actually looking at flights to Hawaii JUST TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM......

And I also have this bridge for sale..........

Bear with me for a little mini-vent please.

Background: Jared was sick this weekend....sore throat, fever....but on Sunday he felt better, never did let me look at his throat. Back to school yesterday, appetite back, felt better.
Also....he's been on meds for his acne, working well but still has a few trouble spots.
So....he had a breakout on his neck and he's been picking at it (sorry, gross) but we put some compresses on it, neosporin and bandaids because he said some kids at school thought it looked gross...so we covered it.
Also, he might have a splinter in his finger because it's red and swollen. I had him soak that in Epsom Salt and warm water and was just waiting it out.

OKAY....school nurse called just now. Not that she really IS a nurse....she said "Several people (I am assuming teachers) have mentioned to me about Jared's skin and his finger....and just now I looked at his throat. He doesn't have a fever, but I think he should see the doctor. I don't know if you have insurance or not, but he still should be seen." She went on to say that she thought he should have hot compresses on his neck, blah blah blah....she said she didn't know if it was acne, or what, but that we should be doing something.

NOW......I WAS doing something....but he does have to go to school.....and I told her that I'd soaked his finger, that I was certain that his neck DID have acne and that he had messed with it....and that he sees a dermatologist for his skin (a very expensive one at that) but that, yes, I would call our family physician to see about his sore throat.

So why am I semi-offended by her call???? I'm just bugged. Maybe some parents don't pay any attention to their kids, but we've been in that school system for 20 years and they all know ME!

Okay. I'm still bugged, but vent over.

Sorry, Stacey!!!

I just posted on the other thread a flippant comment about a mother's walk of guilt to the nurse's office - never dreaming the nurse would go that far!!! :scared1:

Stacey,

I think you have every right to be bugged and offended by that call. I'm hoping she didn't intend to be insensitive, just came across that way. We all know you're a good mommy.

Monica,

In fairness to you, Stacey really cleaned the story up on the other thread!! I had no idea either - until I came over here and read the full story.

Um, that would have totally offended me too!
I've actually been in that situation before- when recently (Oct I think it was- so maybe not THAT recent) when Robert got hit by a flying asthma inhaler (it was thrown down the hall but not intentionally at him- he just happened to come out of his bedroom door into the hall right at that second. Accident prone I'm telling ya!) and the round end of it made almost a complete circle on his cheek. The entire thing was red and swollen but the outer edges were like the top layer of skin came off, so it was darker red "almost" all the way around (the almost is important here).

I sent a note to the teacher explaining it- because the top of the inhaler also hit his forehead at the same time and we actually went to the ER to see if he needed stitches.. they said they could put stitches in but I could also just put a butterfly bandaid on it too, and they had a wait of atleast 4hrs (with 3 kids? no thanks!) so we left and put the bandaid on. Anyway, my letter was to explain what happened and to let her know to CALL ME and I will come immediately with another bandaid if that one falls off- because a regular bandaid wouldn't do to hold it together.

The nurse calls me later in the day saying that my son has RINGWORM on his cheek. She actually argued with me. I said listen, the ER nurse and ER dr are more qualified than you and I'm TELLING you that he got hit in the face with an inhaler. It is not ringworm (we don't even own a cat or been around cats/etc.) -no way is it ringworm. She calls me again the next day (as it had swollen up and gotten red in the middle -more than the day before) saying she "really really felt it was ringworm". I was like you're really really wrong!

ugh ugh ugh!

But your story would have offended me even more- not just because she acted like you didn't care about having your son seen by a dr but then also added in like you couldn't afford it! Excuse me, even if we were poor our kids health wouldn't be something we'd skip to save a buck. Does she really think you don't have insurance? I mean please.

(for instance if our nurse had called to say she thought it was ringworm, I'd be offended. I'd be doubly offended if she then implied that the reason I wasn't taking him to the dr is because I might not have insurance, I'd be doubly offended!)

The nerve! And I agree, I don't think they are really nurses. I mean for crying out loud- if they think an injury from a flying inhaler is ringworm that popped up overnight- they can't possibly be a real nurse! (IMO)

Oh and btw, I understand what you meant. I am a "picker" too. If I breakout for any reason I tend to mess with my face a lot- in fact it may cause breakouts.. hands on face is not a good thing apparently. LOL Making a big deal out of it, plus a splinter in the finger that is tender/swollen... is so ridiculous!
(my kids get sore throats, if they aren't running fever or showing any other symptoms... they get over it without a dr appt!)

What we've had here, and what I hope we will always have, is totally different.
Think about how long we've been friends, and how many times we've all seen eachother besides on the cruises.
I think we're one of the few group of real friends who have always made an effort to see eachother whenever we're close enough to do so. Big difference, IMO.

I can kinda agree with you- but only with the few people I saw on that cruise (including your wonderful self! I saw you there by FAR more than anyone else, more than the few other people I saw and talked to.) So because of the meetings with you and a few others (like Bryce's family because of him scuba diving with Jeff and us seeing them more/talking to them more) I can see what you mean. Unfortunately I didn't really get to see or talk to many people last time AND I had a real hard time ever really keeping up with the thread either. Totally my fault, but I realize how much I missed out on- yanno? Becoming close to everyone before we even cruised together. I'm hoping I'm more fortunate in that area on the next cruise- before and during! I SOOOOOOO wish everyone that went on this cruise could go on the repo with us- wouldn't that be awesome!

I can't tell you how disappointed I was that the itineraries changed and our plans for 6/08 were squashed. :(

(I can't tell you how glad I am that you're going Stacey! But I promise that doesn't mean I'll be stalking you the entire cruise. PROMISE! -and this time Jeff will remember to bring undershirts.. promise. :hippie: )

I'm afraid that we will all lose our first place standing to the Repo cruise. :sad1:

That group appears to be a group of true Blabbermouths. :rotfl:

I think it also has to do with that group has more people... I think? Atleast at a cursory glance of our old list of people on the cruise (yes, I saved the printout we received! LOL) and the preliminary listing on our website for the repo cruise-- it appeared there were quite a few more people going on the Repo than on this cruise. More people= more posts. Only a few (like say 20 or so?) people on that cruise really do most of the talking (yes, myself included. A strong 7th place in post number, in fact LOL)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY gaRry!!!

:bday: :bday: :bday: party:

If you are going to steal - steal from the best. Happy Birthday GaRry!

Woo Hoo - a UTOP with GaRry on this Birthday. This means extra PDFG!

Oh, I missed your birthday GaRry!
Well I hope your had a wonderful birthday and wish you a very happy belated birthday. Always in my thoughts, GaRry... (notice my sig line!)

Jared has a doctor appointment at 10:45 tomorrow.

See what a good mommy you are.....:)

Doesn't the nurse get to ask Jared these questions? Or was she just wanting to make sure that the child was getting care? Maybe kids don't tell the truth to the nurse type person. What if the child was not getting care, then you would want her to call - correct.

Spoken like someone who doesn't have kids - right!!!!!!! Now let someone try to tell me how to take care of my cats...Serious venting would occur.....

I don't think the school CAN trust the kids on a lot of things. I think they have to call and ask the parents, even if it's just to match up stories. I have no idea what Jared told her...but he's pretty good about knowing what's going on and explaining things.

And yes, I do know that in a lot of cases they do need to call if they're worried about the kids getting care. I understand that completely.
But....like I said, my Megan started Kindergarten in these schools, so they all have known me (unfortunately far too well!) for 20 years now....(Megan's 25).....so they KNOW I take my kids to the doctor, eye doctor, orthodontist, dentist......

IT'S JUST NOT MY FAULT THAT MY NEW PERSONAL PHYSICIAN LIVES IN WEST VIRGINIA and it's impossible to get a consult. ;)

Very well stated. There might be other Blabbermouths, but we have friends for life!

And it is amazing how this has affected our lives.....as Irene and I are PMing about this weekends diving.

Okay. I'm still bugged, but vent over.

School nurses are an interesting group. Some are there for the power while others are just trying to be really helpful. We have had both.

Lisa story.......she is not feeling well and was sent to the school nurse. The nurse asked if she should call Sharon. Lisa's response, "No. I have not exhausted all my other options".

And people say I'm the mean one. Lise won't even allow the school nurse to call Sharon! :lmao:

It is not ringworm (we don't even own a cat or been around cats/etc.) -no way is it ringworm.

You don't need to own a cat to get ringworm. You don't even need to be around a cat to get ringworm. You can catch it from other people. Or from something that person shared with you (including but not limited to clothing, combs, couches, pool decking, shower floors, etc etc) OR from animals.

Hope this helps you in the future.

 She's a smart little cookie.

Mike deals with the schools ALL the time and it's RIDICULOUS what they try to pull! UGH!
