(Well... except for the 'I'd send my kid there part'... my kids would think I didn't love them if I sent them there.)

Neither of my kids will be going there. Lisa hates gator so she won't go to any school with a Gater mascot. Matt wants a smaller school.

After church Matt and I went for our first horseback riding lesson.

We are trying to get prepared for out MT trip. He is teaching us how to ride bareback, easier to learn balance.

Irene, thanks for your input on the Gainesville area. We may have to talk some more, didn't realize you had lived there.

We are not really beach people. I know, weird coming from frequent cruisers, but true. The ocean breezes would be really nice, though. But we could get to the ocean much quicker than we could in NM, for scuba etc.

We would like to be able to afford insurance and property tax on our house. I understand that is difficult if you live in a coast city. Hurricanes, again. Gainesville area cost of living index is almost identical to Albuquerque's. But I think I need to research the tornado history there.

We actually like the idea of the hills and changing seasons in north central FL. (And the hurricane buffer.) I'm pretty sure it isn't as cold and snowy as we've been having.

It would be good for our college budget if Alicia were able to live at home at least the first couple of years. The alternative is UNM, which isn't a great alternative.

And we're hoping that our work experience will help in finding jobs. Kevin has many years of being a licensed contractor, and knows a lot about remodeling. FL is kind of begging for people like that. And I have 25 years experience in Government contracts and grants, and Universities are looking for people like that.

If we were millionaires looking to retire in FL, I think Naples or another city of that type would be ideal. Unfortunately, we aren't and we aren't. Everyone has different priorities, right?

new member in the family (oh good heavens NO! i'm not pregnant)

new kitty. well, we do have 48 hours to change our mind. they have to contact our vet. our other cat needs a rabies shot (our vet told us he didn't have to have it cuz he was inside, this place requires it---jump through hoops) then he has to be scheduled to have his surgery to fix him (i didn't know he was broken)

they said it could take....ACK....up to a WEEK to bring him home. humane society my foot. that's INHUMANE to make two kids wait a week to bring a fuzzy kitten home!!!

we have to go back in the next two days to show proof of rabies vaccine for our other cat and pay. will take camera then to snap a picture. he's really little, mostly white except a bit of orange-ish brown on his head and his tail. (yes, we're like the only ppl in the US who don't have a camera phone.)

while playing with him at the humane society, we threw out names left and right. we started leaning towards a DVC inspired name...saratoga...no....beach....no....wilderness...no, not wilderness....what's IN the wilderness? MOOSE! yes. we all cracked up and it kinda stuck! besides, the two patches of color on his head look like the spots where antlers just might grow in! HA!

Hey, didn't notice this until I logged back on.....U TOP with Moose. Oh, is that a sign? Question is, is it a good sign or a bad sign?

That's so important! We were in a good situation when we moved here because real estate prices (and property taxes) in NH was sooooooo high, that we were at a big advantage when we got here. Otherwise, things would have been very different.

I'm not sure how much Gainesville (or ANYWHERE in this darn state) has been spared from the horrific insurance jumps... but the state has been in marathon meetings this week in Tally to try to come up with a solution. (I'm not too optimistic...)

Congratulations on your new little swamp donkey. (Well... thats what we called moose in NH... we had LOTS of them in our neighborhood.)

Don't expect much long term good out of it. If they roll back the rates, we all will be paying more taxes because someone has to pay for Citizens.

Forcing companies to write will only cause more to pull out.

If they put the changes in place, the State will be the largest insurer in the company within one year.

Just my thoughts.

Good morning all. Today is my son, AJ's 11th birthday!!! He's sooo excited. We got him tickets to Old Timer's Day at Yankee stadium. He's going to bust when he opens his card. AT least I hope he does.

I'd be gald to talk more - all kidding aside....Sam and I were both born in south Florida and "north" to us is anything that is above Vero Beach....that is the magic line for the zone 9 plant line...we live in zone 10 - "sub-tropics". That said, there are many nice communitities near Gainesville, a trip is in order....
