Morning All - A very happy Sunday....

We had over 23,000 folk show up for the race for the cure on the waterfront yesterday. I did not "race", I walked and it was so packed, it was a slow stroll.....traffic was unbelievable, so I took a different route and parked 1/2 up the race line. So, (shame on me) I cut out early.....It was good to see good friends (I walked with the team from my old job) and all the survivors.

Then home, the Finally take down the tree....It is a pile of branches now. All (most all) decorations are back in the attic - today we finish. I have never been this late, ever.

:surfweb: coffee, I need coffee.....

Then started the house cleaning in earnest - floors, now gleam, as deocrations and 2 months of dust are removed.

Today we are taking Mother to the Irish Pub after church for a real Irish/English breakfast. Then home again for more house cleaning while watching football.

And ho was your day?

I shall look while I have :surfweb:

Note to self: must go to the store as we are out of milk, and the powdered stuff is fine for camping, but not for normal.

:wave2:

Amanda, I posted a while back, yes. We have a tentative plan to move to FL in summer '08. Which might really be '09. Anyway, Alicia wants to go to college in FL, and we want to live there. And we can only afford college for her there if we are residents, so there you go. Gainesville is our pick, so we'll see how it goes.

OK, Jim, does Sharon seriously want to go on the Panama Canal cruise? In August? Maybe she, I, and Amanda can figure something out. If we can find a category cheap enough for me, split three ways. How much for a lifeboat? Then there would be a whole bunch of escaping Moms!

Yipppeee - Gooooooooooooooo Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary,

4 nights in a 1 BR at SSR and 2 night in Studio at BCV. Waitlisted for last night, but if we don't get it, we may just go back to airport on Sunday evening, because we have an early flight out on Monday morning. Charley really wanted to just stay at SSR the whole time, but the kids love going to BCV for the pool

Ohhh, I have never stayed at either ....What a treat..SSR is supposed to have the nicest spa...:goodvibes

Aww come on...Sam can deal for days right?@?@:goodvibes

Well, you have a point there...

Hey Honey, I am leaving for 15 days during HS and by the way - take care of my Mother please, while you are working at 3:00 am in a big box with only emergecny power and the national guard in the parking lot...:rotfl:

Sure, that'll work...:rotfl:

Ok, Kiki (and Jim and Irene), we want to hear the negatives about living in Gainesville. I've been researching, and it sounds good on paper. We are planning a short visit to look around this summer. It seems affordable, and smaller than Orlando (less traffic), and away from the coast (hurricanes). And yes, darn HOT, no ocean breezes. We might need to do a reverse snowbird thing to somewhere. You have to remember, we will both be jobless when we move, so affordable is important!

We might look at Ocala too. A community college is a plus, because we need to establish residency before Alicia goes to UF. Depends on when we can move.

Given all the above, I have no business even thinking about a cruise. But I'm still thinking about cruising! It's a sickness.

Let us know if you want to meet up - Any excuse to go to Gainesville. I love the area, a bit too cold for me during the winters....

The area is green, trees, hills, campus extras. It has grown since I lived there...many of the outlying areas are very nice as well. Downsides, it is a college town, if you do not like college kids and college life, not a good place. My roommate still lives in an area that on game days she has to leave by a certain time or she cannot go anywhere that day...but you know, you adjust.

They were hit by hurricanes, surprising, but not like we had in the south. And yes, hot in the summer, but they have airconditioning no...:rotfl: As for affordable, perhaps some of the areas outside G'ville will work as well....

Ocala is beautiful as well....

(Hey, I'd say anything to get them to move to Fla.)

Oh... I can TOTALLY relate to being jobless when you move!!!! I was jobless for our first 6 weeks here... felt like a year, if you ask me!!!!

I haven't spent a lot of time in Gainsville, but every time I've been there for a meeting, a few things have crossed my mind... obviously, these are my opinion, and just my opinion... my reasons for not liking it may be exactly why you like it...

1- Its WAY too far from the beach... which is why I moved to FL... and what seems to be WAY too far from everywhere... its just seems to be plopped down in the middle of no-mans land... and you're right ITS HOT!!!!!!

2- It's surrounded by horse country... which holds absolutely no benefit or good purpose for me...

3- For a town in the middle of nowhere, there seems to be a lot of traffic, no matter what time I drive through there...

4- I hate the Gators, and all the hype that surrounds them... (sorry Irene...) I could never live where its "all Gators all the time" It would be like Scuba living in Ohio or OM living in Mich.

5- I like where I am too much! I'm never leaving... unless its to move closer to the ocean... which won't happen in this lifetime.

My honest response...

1. Far from the beach - true, and the side trips to Cedar Key are nice, but not really beachy. (PS - too cold to go to the beach in Daytona anyway).

2. Horse county - yup true.

3. Lots of traffic - all the time - yes, also true.

4. Gators - good.

5. Hot - at times, but you don't shovel snow.

6. Jobs - I'll add this one - you will need to reseach this aspect since you are competing with bunches of graduates....

Sorry GaRRy, I have not been around that neck of the woods....

It was beautiful here yesterday - sontan lotion and a margarita.......yup!!!!!

You'll be here soon, cross fingers for good weather.

Good morning all. Today is my son, AJ's 11th birthday!!! He's sooo excited. We got him tickets to Old Timer's Day at Yankee stadium. He's going to bust when he opens his card. AT least I hope he does.

Another cold one here. I'm looking forward to staying in with the fire going watching some football. I hope everyone has a great day.

If anyone is interested...we switched our cruising dates on RCCL's Liberty of the Seas from February to April 19-26th. Anybody that wants to join us is welcome.

Oooh... don't tempt me... just think what a GREAT 'belated' 40th birthday present THAT would be!!!! [/SIZE]

hmm - what a great idea!!! Except I'll be 40 THIS year...maybe, booking it in 2007 will qualify for my present? :lmao:

Actually, it's looking like we may not do the Mexican trip - if prices will be what Disney announced - even at the broom closet category - I'm resigned to agree with John that it'll be tough to justify at this point. (Gee John , since I just "saved" $6000 - can I go on the repo? :lmao: )

Instead, we're looking at spending some time in California scheduling post cruise time if anyone will be staying over. It's been over 15 years since we've visited DL and longer for other parts of California - I think the kids would have a blast - for less than the cruise.

Not near the ocean, not near the gulf, not near the Keys, not neat Orlando....why live in Gainesville? I don't know.

I would send my kid there, but I would not want to live there. If you live in Florida you should be near something that is enjoyable.

Live where you can find the jobs, since you are jobless. That is how we ended up in DB and we won't be moving anytime soon.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!
(Well... except for the 'I'd send my kid there part'... my kids would think I didn't love them if I sent them there.)

Huh???? Too cold? It's gorgeous out! Headed there in a few minutes... for the 3rd Sunday in a row... and yes, it IS January!!!!

Then again, having grown up on the beaches of New England, where the high water temp in August is 68, this is like Tahiti to me.

I have loved this tour in the past...I dont want to ruin it for you but do you know the surprise at the end??? White test in case you dont....

Used to be, at the end of the tour, you found Wendy and Peter, one time we had Belle. You got to meet and greet with them, have a photo and the best part of all, was that you would ride a ride with them. Once we did its a small world, most recently we did philharmagic and again we did philharmagic this time however, the characters no longer go with you. This past september we had such an awesome tour, and peter and wendy escorted us from Liberty square to fantasyland, all while playing following the leader..then once in the preshow area for Philharmagic, while waiting we all played duck duck goose. I will ALWAYS remember that and the light in the kids eyes that day. Now I was not expecting that same degree, because I know we had a very MAGICAL moment that day. BUT what I was unprepared for, was that the character no longer accompanies the group. It was basically, a "ho hum you saved the Magic Kingdom, now lets take pics and we have to go be in the show bye now" The tour is very fast pacedand is 2 hours long. In the past I have felt that the payoff was well worth the price, but no longer....Just disappoinment is all. I no longer feel that the value is there for what they are charging. Anyway just MTCW :goodvibes

I may have to rethink this now ... or go over to the other board to see if this is now the standard. I had already read about what you said you experienced in the past & that's why I wanted to do it. If that is no longer offered, then I need to seriously rethink. We didn't do it last time because Ashley was only 2. Thanks for the review.
