Pam,

Glad to hear y'all are going to WDW!! :woohoo: We've gone during Spring Break the past several years and the crowds are definitely manageable! Have you stayed at SSR yet? (we're staying for the 1st time in May.) And I definitely agree with the kids about SAB! :cloud9: Have fun! ;)

Laura,

We stayed at SSR right after it opened and had a great room at the back of the resort by PI. It was so pleasant to walk out there and see DTD/PI. this time, I think we want to be closer to the front of the resort, because it looks like we won't be having a car. Cheapest I can find for a car for the week is $275 and that is way too much.

Oooh... don't tempt me... just think what a GREAT 'belated' 40th birthday present THAT would be!!!! After all, I AM taking Ray to Sandals Jamaica for HIS 40th birthday this April. (Well... his best friend is getting married there... we ARE the wedding... but we'll celebrate his b-day, too... so that's his birthday gift... )
Okay.....come on .......lets go:grouphug:

I dont know for sure, but I am guessing she wants to be a GATOR?

That would be the obvious reason, but I don't think I've ever met anyone who willingly lives in Gainesville. (except students...)

We staed there for the first time this trip. We were in the SPrings. I believe that is the closest you can be to the main building...It was nice, but I still prefer OKW...I have just been really impressed by OKW and afterall it was my stay there that caused us to buy in! Laura, dont forgot to go by the open house units and check out the Grand Villa...very pretty.

Ok, Kiki (and Jim and Irene), we want to hear the negatives about living in Gainesville. I've been researching, and it sounds good on paper. We are planning a short visit to look around this summer. It seems affordable, and smaller than Orlando (less traffic), and away from the coast (hurricanes). And yes, darn HOT, no ocean breezes. We might need to do a reverse snowbird thing to somewhere. You have to remember, we will both be jobless when we move, so affordable is important!

We might look at Ocala too. A community college is a plus, because we need to establish residency before Alicia goes to UF. Depends on when we can move.

Given all the above, I have no business even thinking about a cruise. But I'm still thinking about cruising! It's a sickness.

Pam, I think early March will be a good time. Most of the country has Spring break in early April, around Easter. You can always tell by checking the premium category dates on the points charts for the year.

Oh... I can TOTALLY relate to being jobless when you move!!!! I was jobless for our first 6 weeks here... felt like a year, if you ask me!!!!

I haven't spent a lot of time in Gainsville, but every time I've been there for a meeting, a few things have crossed my mind... obviously, these are my opinion, and just my opinion... my reasons for not liking it may be exactly why you like it...

1- Its WAY too far from the beach... which is why I moved to FL... and what seems to be WAY too far from everywhere... its just seems to be plopped down in the middle of no-mans land... and you're right ITS HOT!!!!!!

2- It's surrounded by horse country... which holds absolutely no benefit or good purpose for me...

3- For a town in the middle of nowhere, there seems to be a lot of traffic, no matter what time I drive through there...

4- I hate the Gators, and all the hype that surrounds them... (sorry Irene...) I could never live where its "all Gators all the time" It would be like Scuba living in Ohio or OM living in Mich.

5- I like where I am too much! I'm never leaving... unless its to move closer to the ocean... which won't happen in this lifetime.

OK, Kiki, will keep that in mind. I do hope to check out the traffic situation, that is a concern. Of course, traffic is a problem here too. I just try not to drive during rush hour! But have you driven around Orlando much? Oy!

Yes, Alicia wants to be a Gator. Not that she cares about sports, or knows anything about them. It's a good University, with lots of undergrad and graduate programs to choose from. I've been whispering "pre-med, pre-med" while she sleeps. It's not working yet. Seems like a girl that's highly gifted in math and science should be more amenable to a career in science, doesn't it? She told me the other day she'd like to be a magazine editor. Can you say English teacher?

But if she became a doctor, she could take us on cruises. I like that idea!

Maybe Alicia will be an editor for a travel magazine and she can take you on all the cruises and trips!! ;)

Yes, it does look good, but I will tell you that this was the first time I called DVC and they had no availability in any room at OKW in the middle of the week. What's up with that?? I am afraid it will be somewhat crowded, but who cares. I will be at WDW and away from here.

Not near the ocean, not near the gulf, not near the Keys, not neat Orlando....why live in Gainesville? I don't know.

I would send my kid there, but I would not want to live there. If you live in Florida you should be near something that is enjoyable.

Live where you can find the jobs, since you are jobless. That is how we ended up in DB and we won't be moving anytime soon.

True - but just think how you've helped my stock!!!

Welcome to the Cult of Mac!!!
