partially my fault too, for allowing us to fall onto page two...We're in the middle of our summer musical. John was in charge of the set design, construction, lights, sound, and I'm on set crew. So, we've had a very busy few weeks...

The puppy is adorable!

Mice or any other type of rodent, ick!

Ohhhhh - we're REALLY slipping :guilty:

How's everyone doing, heat-wise? Atlanta is about the last place I want to be right now. HOT, STAGNANT AIR - 12th day in a row of CODE RED SMOG ALERT and I'm really feeling it. :crazy2:

And we're the IDIOTS going to Six Flags tomorrow...:crazy2:

U.T.O.P.

I'd also eliminate the hot dog, burger, chicken tender kids meals (mac and cheese is ok). Why, at buffets like Boma (notice Mike did not include that one in his article) do children have to eat hot dogs when there is all this lovely unique food -- and how on earth does Mommy know that little Johnny won't eat it, if little Johnny has never tried it! Geez......Give me a grant and I will prove that children who eat a varied menu grow up to be heathier and not as heavy --- betcha it's true!!!!

Loved Mike's article.

Irene, I agree with your comments about kids' food choices. I was like OHMinnie & didn't really police what the kids were ordering on the cruise. It was their vacation too. They ate the same thing EVERY night. My kids are not picky eaters & had they been given different choices every night, they would have eaten different things.

Thank goodness my parents installed the refrigerated air before we left the cruise though. It does seem unnaturally humid here in town. Mix that with 100 degree weather, goes down in comfortibility.

Checking in at lunchtime - a rare option for me lately, being in the office....must also rush out and grab lunch --- after the last few pages, I guess it must be tuna and salad,,,,,no burger and fries....Actually, I do not eat burgers, but fries are good.....not when it is so HOT, and I cannot complain about the heat compared to the rest of the County.

As for the discussion.....GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MIKE! :cheer2:

As for Boma - One of our favourites.....there are wonderful sauces on the carving table. The best is red, nice and spicey - yummy. Can't wait for the next trip.....better book now!!!!!

And speaking of resturants, we must plan on visiting Tony's - that is Duckey's pride and joy......right?

Hi Everyone!

Just a little check-in.
Boys are at fencing camp.

Ps. Praying for Virgil's dad and Sam's sister

Been trying to post all morning and keep getting interrupted. One of those rare mornings when I don't have to be anywhere until noon.
Nice cloudy day, even had a touch of rain.

This is the face a kid makes when they try new foods. The girls ate snails. Even made their eyes turn RED. Just kidding...should have edited it first!

We've always had a rule in our house. The kids eat what we eat. Not running a restaurant, so I never did make them a different meal. My sister in law would let her son (from her first marriage) eat a plate of whipped cream at Thanksgiving, when the rest of us and our kids were having a real meal. Disgusting.

I was the rare baby and child who truly was fat and not from eating too much. Was even put on "diet" formula as a baby. But that's not the case with most kids these days.
I think ALL places should offer lighter, healthier meals.....especially Disney.

Shamelessly boosting the post count. :sunny:

I'm meeting a friend for lunch...still waiting for the dealership to call me to come get my car....and have yet another appt at the dentist's. This tooth thing is apparently a long process.

The feedback has been interesting.
He's had lots of people say it was a great article and "right on!!" And several of those qualified their feelings with "as a parent of a skinny child".....

And then there have been the few that have called him a "horses a$$," "offensive," "ignorant," "insane," and "heartless and insensitive."

One even said that if he was their pediatrician the first thing they would do is find a NEW one!

It be interesting to know if the ones who have left such scathing feedback are NOT the "parents of skinny kids." Just a hunch I have. :confused3

I would bet a LOT of money that the negative feedback is coming from parents who do not have "skinny kids". But have you ever been at the parks (a perfect place to people-watch) and seen a chubby child, and then looked at the parents? I'd say 98.6% of the time, the parents are "chubby" too. Bad eating habits all the way around.
Megan was a "not skinny child"....so I have experience...and then there's myself.....I was NOT offended by Mike's article. I was smart enough to know whether my problem or Megan's were caused by bad eating habits, etc....or something else.
This may be a flammatory remark, but I'd say that anyone who is going to get upset about Mike's article is either not being honest with themselves, or is not the brightest crayon in the box.

Mike one time had a mother storm out of his office (pausing only long enough to ask if Mike knew of any other good pediatrician's in the area) Seems she had a 3 or 4 yr old that was big for her age. She had had, at the mother's insistance, EVERY test in the book to check for metabolic problems---thyroid, hormone testing, yada yada yada---the woman would NOT let it go....she kept demanding that SOMETHING be done for her kid. Mike explained more exercise, healthier foods, smaller portions, etc etc. But the mom was fuming and demanding that there must be SOME other test that can be done to show why her daughter was overweight.

Finally, Mike said....."well, you're a pretty large woman yourself....."

That's it. She stormed out. Luckily she hasn't come back to the practice. He was just being honest. :earseek:

I do firmly believe that there are just some people who genetically are going to be heavier. But I also believe that the vast majority of people out there who are carrying around extra pounds are doing it b/c of a sedentary lifestyle and eating too many calories. Hey, I can talk.....My BMI puts me in the overweight category and I'd rather DIS than get on a piece of exercise equipment ANY DAY!!!

kikiKaren....

you'll love Mike's newest Pediascribe. I'm wondering if he wrote it with you in mind. ;)

DH joined the iPod generation this week. Why, I've got NO earthly clue!!! He convinced himself to get an iPod & ditch our 5 cd disc changer in the house. All I have to say is ... boys & their toys!!! Think I'll be requesting a new digital camera for my birthday!

I may be having a mini-meet with Amanda tomorrow. My good friend from college is flying in tomorrow night. Her husband was offered a job in Columbus & is coming in to take a look around. I'm going to go with her. We'll try to hook up with Amanda if we can.

Well, for one....it's REALLY hard to go running with a 5 disc cd changer. They've got GREAT podcasts for runners....
done by a guy named dj steveboy I believe. He lists them with beats per minute depending on how fast you want to run. :) fitpod.com is one that I can think of. I want to say the other is Podrunner. He can search iTunes for them. :)

If I had a choice.....CD's or my iPod, it'd be my iPod....hands down. And Virgil didn't even pay me to say that. :)

Just fine!! Thanks for asking. I was actually going to tear up the shower in the master bathroom and redo it, but didn't get all the necessary supplies/materials before Friday afternoon. Can't have the shower torn up when mama returns........ Think I'll wait for the "Girls trip", more time anyway!!

They made it to DL just fine. They had some dance workshops in the morning, and then hit the parks. A group of them went to Tower of Terror and got our niece on the ride! She wouldn't go in Disney World. She even liked it!! Did the Cali River Rapids Ride (I love to say that fast :lmao: ) and said it was better than DW.
They were waiting for Spectromagic when the called, sounds like a good time was held by all. Alicia said it was hot in during the day, but when they called, it was "Beautiful"!!

Hee hee. CAPD strikes again. Of course, we went on the Grizzly Peak ride, not the Cali, and were waiting for Fantasmic, not Spectromagic. It was even more confusing actually being there!

Yes, it was HOT! More later, still catching up.
